Dave,Chris,Ben,and I will be taking off from Heathrow on Thursday 14th Sept.
And leaving Baltimore Tues 19th Sept.

Chris,Ben and I will be sitting in Section 111.Dave will be sitting with his goodfriend Doug who runs the Ravens Nests.

If you see the Union Jack.Give us some support. As we walk around before the game.Hopefully meeting up with Greg,Admin Steve & Fellspoint etc tailgating.

This will be Dave's 2nd gameday experience,on the first visit he introduced the tailgaters to the Celery Rugby Song.:179421: I thought about doing the Marrow song this time, but I'd probably get arrested.

The rest of us,it will be our first visit. And I may be seen floating once inch off the ground for the first few hours upon arriving in Baltimore.

There you have it.We will keep you posted on whats happening leading upto the trip.

I spoke with FellsPointRaven last night and he is going to be at a wedding Saturday afternoon/night. What hotel are you guys staying in? I will try and coordinate a Saturday evening thing for that. What is Doug's plans for that evening? Is there anything you guys want to see while here?

And don't think you won't be at our tailgate Sunday morning, at least for a good bit. I plan on smoking some ribs on Saturday to bring Sunday and warm up, so you better have your appetite ready. I have some unopened HP sauce, would that go well on ribs?

Hopefully you lot got my e-mail. I am indeed out on Saturday, but am taking you out on the town on Friday night. Anyone else reading this who wants to join us are welcome, although I must warn you English people become even less comprehensible the more they drink.

From what Greg was saying last night, he and others may 'bring the party to you' on Saturday given the distance up to Westminster and the fact none of you have a car (and wouldn't want to drive anyway after a few Newcy Browns).

Either way, you can play if by ear and rest assured will have a good time whatever you decide to do.

Greg - if you're bringing HP Sauce then I'm bringing bacon and rolls for some bacon butties. Mmmm.

I just dribbled over my keyboard. Can't wait to experience tailgating.
And being surrounded by purple. To think when I started out,I thought I was
the only non American Raven fan till I meet Dave. Then we thought we were the only two until we spread feelers around the world.

Now we will be in Raven heaven. It doesn't get much better than that.

I'll be having a Ravens tailgate for my 40th this weekend. Making all the family wear NFL stuff and eat American food. Then we watch the England football game - poor substitute I know. After that a few of us are going to watch Hull KR at Batley - if win we are confirmed as 'Minor Premiers' and get home field in the play-offs.

Then it only 11 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be bringing a 'stock' of celery - provided I can find a good market in the downtown area.

MrT - the more everyone else bring - the more we can throw. I almost hope there are a few Raiders fans at the match. Silver and Balck should make a good target!

Fells - given the reputation of Hull KR fans away its probably best we do not arrange to meet up!!!!

OK Kevin I better stick near you at the tailgate and we can create our "Hanging Out" Jersey fraternity.

The Celery,is an old Northern England tradition, where natives dance round a campfire with a stick of celery up each nostril.:069:

Yes, Friday evening it will be.

I don't do the Cat's Eye. Firstly, they card at the door, which could cause problems for one of our brethren, and secondly I have a couple of issues with their political leanings. I may be able to overcome these reservations and stop there for a pint if everyone wants to go, though.

What's up with all this talk about the Brits & celery? What special meaning does it have? :187734:

Fells Point can probably expand on this but my understanding is that it originated through fans of British Rugby. As you may know, there are a gazillion rugby songs, mostly bawdy and rude ;). This particular song has the line "if she don't come, I'll tickle her bum with a stick of celery."

Apparently while singing this in the stands of your local Rugby field, you then proceed to wing the celery at fans of the opposing team.

The last time Dave was here, we launched a barrage of celery at some hapless Chiefs fan walking bythe tailgate. Hilarious.

UKRaven
09-05-2006, 01:34 AM
I took some friends to Castleford v Hull KR (Rugby League) game some years ago. At half-time a barrage of celery went the 'Cas fans way along with the song - all done in good humour!!

I believe Chelsea fans are credited with its creation.

KR fans still sing the celery song - I sang it with them myself at Batley away (my 40th) last Sunday!

I do however suggest a toned down version for this Raiders game Taigate could be:

Celery!!! Celery!!!
The 'Brits are here! We'll drink some beer!
And throw some CELERY!
Celery! Celery!

and so on................

52RAYVENS

Greg

IIRC.

Celery, Celery
we'll shave her cum
and tickle her bum
and we'll do it with celery

UKRaven
09-07-2006, 01:50 AM
Celery, Celery
for if she comes?
we'll tickle her bum
with a lump of Celery

There are different versions of the same song. I meerly suggested a toned down version to avoid getting arrested, or a law suit form some feminists!

Clearly the point of difference is the 'for if she comes' or 'we'll shave her cum' - both or which, said quickly, sound similar.

We are more likely to get away with 'for if she?' one!

The addition of a second verse for the tailgate - 'the Brits are here ...' would work only if people are regular chanters at sports games. Which of course I am, but i am not too sure about everyone else!!!!

We've got a cuople of days to sort out this one - prior to the tailgate!!!

FellsPointRaven
09-07-2006, 08:52 AM
I've asked this before, but how would you shave that anyway??!

I say leave the line in there and don't worry about being un-PC - inside every feminist is a party girl just waiting to get out - as Jeremy Piven says in PCU.

UKRaven
09-07-2006, 08:58 AM
'For if she comes' - is much easier on the un-initiated. Better to have 15 of us singing one song - as we pelt the Raider fan that gets into the cross-hairs!!!

Bumping up this old thread up needing wise counsel, to me silly headwear is a must at a sporting event, it's a fez for Saracens games, a white and red jester's hat for Saracens games and anything random if I go anywhere else. Is there suitably silly headwear that I can get my mits on in Baltimore to continue my silly headwear at sporting events tradition? Perhaps a purple and gold jesters hat?

Here's a link to the light rail map: http://www.mtamaryland.com/services/lightrail/schedule/06LightRail.pdf

Your best bet is to get off at the stop after Camden Yards, which is the Convention Center. You'll find yourselves on Pratt Street. Walk one block north to Lombard Street and your hotel should be to your right, I think about a block down (less than 5 mins walk from Light Rail stop).

UKRaven

Chips 'n' Gravy at the tailgate!!! (That's french fries with gravy to you non-Brits)

Actually having chips with gravy (boiling water > gravy powder > simmer) is known in the South of England as 'going Northern' .
Where as we Northerners are more often seen with chips and curry sauce or a Kebab!

I would have to start talking in a Northern accent - then you would have no chance of understanding me.
Just had a quick chat to Fell's - all okay
Off to bed now, 6 hours until I start my journey!!!!!
See you soon!

Right, off to play football, if I don't bust my ankle (well even if I do actually) I'll see you at the airport tomorrow TD. :)

Lol, did myself the injury a week later, ran across in front of someone to put the ball out for a corner, he went into the back of me and I landed on my face, lol. Pretty painful friction burn on my left shoulder, friction burn on the left side of my face and taken the skin off my knees for the third time in just over a month.:grbac:

Just under two weeks back in Blighty and I'm off work two days with the flu.
The best medicine I can hope for is a Ravens win vs San Diego.

Go Ravens,ahhhcheeewwww.

Edit, the win didn't cure my flu.
Oh well better take another day off work to enjoy the win over the Chargers.
Cough,cough cough.

I must admit to being a little 'worse for wear' after the Chargers' game. Cracking open a new bottle of Jim Beam did the damage!!!!!!!!
