View Full Version : Some quick hits on the offense

1. Jamal needs to get fewer touches...it's painfully obvious
2. Musa and MA need to get the ball more...esp in passing situations
3. Todd Heap needs to get involved in the game early
4. McNair needs to make quicker decisions. He had decent time vs Denver and waited too long several times
4. Clarence Moore needs to be cut. Taking up a roster spot for this guy is a joke
5. The redzone play calling is horrible. It MUST change or we will continue to settle for FGs at best and turnovers at worst.
6. Use Demetrius Williams more...the guy has talent
Are the coaches making this more complex than it really is? I get the feeling different coaches/philosophy would have this team scoring 20+ PPG.

It did amaze me with the way McNair has thrown to Heap, Clayton and Mason that he would go to "alligator arms" Clarence Moore. :187734:

Me too, I looked at my son and said "who the hell was that and why didn't he try to break it up?" Then the MNF crew identified the culprit and all was revealed.

Fanman, I agree with your points totally, except that McNair is still getting comfortable with the offense, and that probably explains his erratic passing to date. I also believe our D has to stiffen up more in crunch-time, and do a bit better job rushing the QB - the snake was not really pressured the entire game. I also feel our special teams need to do a better job establishing field position; grade to date, C.

1. The Ravens need to go with a situational running game...meaning use Musa Smith primarily as our third down back, with a fair amount of touches in other situations, have MA as our featured back, and use Jamal in....uhhhh....use him to trip up some blockers.
2. Clarence Moore should be back on the inactive list. If you want to throw a fade like that, go to either Demetrius Williams, Todd Heap, or Wilcox. Use DVD instead on 4 WR sets.
Those are the two biggest changes I'd make from Monday. The OL, go with what you got...Heap needs more throws, but don't overuse him, because you want defenders drawn OFF of him.

Last year I thought w/ Fassel things would improve...even w/ Boller at QB...I was wrong then. I figured this year w/ much better talent at the skill positions things would improve...so far, wrong again. What the heck is going on?
I said it before and I will say it again...the Ravens will never win another Superbowl, regardless of the players they have, as long as Billick is the HC.

As few as possible!
2. Musa and MA need to get the ball more...esp in passing situations
I think Mike Anderson needs to be the feature back!
3. Todd Heap needs to get involved in the game early
Early , Middle, and Late!
4. McNair needs to make quicker decisions. He had decent time vs Denver and waited too long several times
He needs to count to three and either release or look for Musa/Mike coming out of the backfield.
4. Clarence Moore needs to be cut. Taking up a roster spot for this guy is a joke
I’ve been saying this to my friends since training camp broke! They should have kept either Letondress or Elling instead of this worthless sack of human flesh. He’s so afraid to take a hit he didn’t even try to break up Bailey’s Int.
5. The redzone play calling is horrible. It MUST change or we will continue to settle for FGs at best and turnovers at worst.
I kind of liked the screen to Clayton, I think he might have scored if McNair could have hit him. The jump ball to Moore, however, was the most pathetic call of the year. As soon as McNair saw Champ Bailey lined up on him he should have checked off.
6. Use Demetrius Williams more...the guy has talent
This is the biggest mystery to me! The guy has obvious talent and really goes after the ball!

It’s a joke that we can’t score 20+ a game with the talent that we have. It’s just being misused!

It is just so frustrating, I hope we break out sooner rather then later, or else:(

Maybe Bisciotti needs to take Billick back to the woodshed before the season is over and this time take Fassel along with him. Why is it that personnel can change but the results stay the same?? Williams is sitting while Moore is in there ~ that one really ticked me off!

After being in the league 11 years he should not be throwing the passes he's throwing, period. Getting used to the offense doesn't entail underthrowing receivers.

I have a gut feeling that our offense will be greatly improved by season's end, however we will continue to inhabit a "typical Ravens" offense until McNair gets totally adjusted to the playbook and the personnel at his disposal.
C. Moore is garbage and should be stocking shelves at Safeway, while Chris McBaxter continues his trend of surrendering his jockstrap to elite WRs...(Oh God, we still have Chad Johnson ahead of us twice this season!)

Chris McBaxter...hilarious. Just when I thought he was past his "momentary lapses in coverage" he blows the one in the endzone. I hope you are right about the Offense R52, it would be great for a playoff run.

Hold on.
McAlister gets beat ONCE by a savvy veteran and he gets bashed?
This D has shut down every team so far. McAlister has played extremely well and his INT in Cleveland was the biggest defensive play this team has had so far.
His INT for a TD in TB was the 2nd biggest.
Everyone expected the Broncos to run that ball. Did he get beat? Yup. Every CB does.
Sometimes people forget how lucky we are to have McAlister.

I think McNair holds onto the ball that long because the defense knows he can't stretch the field and the receivers can't get behind them, so they cover them very tight in close range. I don't think we're getting separation right off the bat.

True, every CB gets beat. And yes, we are (sort of) lucky to have a very good CB like C-Mac on our team. But I've noticed a trend that's disturbing. In the big games against elite WRs, the guy often shrinks under the pressure either by commiting silly penalties or flat out getting burned. Champ Bailey did the film study he needed to in order to make a big play in the endzone...Why didn't Chris?:bag:

Totally 100% different situation. Aliens in outer space watching Monday Night Football in an attempt to understand us humans before they invade even knew what play was coming when Moore came into the game. There was never any doubt the ball was going there, and Bailey never even bothered to cover Moore, he just went to the endzone and waited for the ball to get there.
C-Mac had to read Plummer to see where the ball was going, and took his eyes off Rod Smith for a split second. And that's after C-Mac made a great fumble recovery and a nice play on a ball later in the game that would have been a touchdown had it have been caught.
Remember too, McAlister was the one who intercepted Charlie Frye in the endzone to save that game from being an embarassing loss. So I'm willing to lighten up on him just a little bit. He's played really well so far this year.

1. Because the Broncos can actually put different guys on the field and have multiple threats at the goal line. Do you think Shanahan is so predictable like Billick is?
2. There was less than 2 minutes to go in the game. Throwing the ball at that time was risky on 2 fronts. There's always a chance for an INT (see Browns game) and an incompletion stops the clock. Im sure everyone was looking for the run.
Im not saying McAlister couldn't have played Smith better on that play but let's be realistic.
We went into Denver on a Monday night and gave up 1 TD.
I think we can find some other things to be concerned about besides a guy like Cmac.

Couldn't agree more, purple. CMac had been having a great game before that one (costly) miscue.

I've had problems with C-Mac's attitude in the past, which often affects his performance on the field. I'm not bashing him, however...Calling him Chris McBaxter is my way of venting my frustration when he gets his jock handed to him against upper echelon competition.
And yes, Chris has done well this season, as well he should against the teams we've faced thusfar. But an 80 year-old like Rod Smith shouldn't be burning him on national television with the game on the line.
Focus Chris...FOCUS!
