This may have been discussed and if so, I apologize. (Busy week at work).
Anyway, after watching the Chargers DL against the Steelers OL (an OL that is supposed to be one of the better in football), I have to say that our OL is not as bad as we think. The weak link of the OL seems to be Vincent, but otherwise the rest of the guys are not playing badly. The issue I have with our OL is that it is not consistent from play to play. It seems that Flynn and Pashos will lose focus during the earlier portion of our games and then turn it on during the latter part of the game. Additionally, Brown and Ogden looked good on the leftside last Monday, but that was discussed in the Jason Brown thread.
This Sunday, we have a tough DL to go against with the Panthers, but we have faced two other tough DLs (Chargers and Bucs) and our OL held up well. If we could just upgrade our play at RG, it will make a difference and not leave Pashos on an island.
As for the rest of the offense, I view the Monday game as a fluke performance. McNair just had a bad game. Period. This Sundayat home, our offense will bounce back.
That said, I don't think Jamal's performance was a fluke. He has definitely worn down. He is no longer an every down back. When Musa and MA came into the game, it was night and day. With Musa and MA, we had a rushing threat again, and I believe that one of those two were on the verge of breaking a big run. Moreover, with Musa and MA, our offense is less predictable as both (especially Musa) are passing threats and good on draw plays.
Jamal is a one dimensional back. In Jamal's effective years, he was famous for gaining additional yards after first point of contact. He could break tackles and run over secondary players. He can no longer do that, because he goes down at the first point of contact. Just as Alan Ricard lost effectiveness due to being one dimensional, defenses have figured out that Jamal was a one trick pony that lost his ability to peform that one trick.
I am not saying that Jamal should be released, but this should be his last season as our starting RB. It's not the OL. It is Jamal.
