And?

And, it seems for once, we get to watch a game that actually matters to us

Is that the right answer :cheeky:

Greg

Okay, I guess. I just wish people would comment and not just toss stuff like this up.

I won't be watching it, I will be out on a hayride gathering pumpkins because Mrs. Windbag insists that we do it once a year. I will also be replacing a garbage disposal and installing an electronic fence to keep Skippy in the yard.

I fear I may get dragged to the Rennaisance Fest. 6 hours of listening to fake limeys adressing me as a 'scurvy knave'.

The beer is good. And so are those corset things ;)

Well, this is the weekend to spend time with the family, get your yard work done, etc. because we have 10 more weeks after this weekend of regular season & hopefully playoff football to follow in Jan/Feb.

Which other game among those four 1:00 games would you have as the feature game?

I think it's funny, though, that the Denver/Cleveland game is going to the NYC area.

SD at KC would be my choice.

Fox will show DET at NYJ at 1:00, hence, no CBS 1:00 game.

NYG plays Monday night @ Dallas.

The only downside of living in Denver. Broncos-Brownies. (Where's the puking smiley?). How many times do you think I'll be tortured with highlights of The Drive and The Fumble during the game?

The defending Super Bowl champions playing a 3-2 team with one of most exciting and popular players in the league vs two lower-profile teams that didn't make the playoffs last year and one of which doesn't have its quarterback and lost 45-7 last week. I don't think you'd find too many people (especially outside the most ardent of Steeler haters) who would prefer the latter game to the former.

why the hate for the Renn Fest?

Turkey legs
beer
steak on a stake
corsets
bawdy humor
jousting
guys hitting each other with sticks

and to be honest, I didn't have one weirdo vendor in the time I was there. I like them talking like that sometimes, but no one was overly pushy with it except the performers.

Plus, this is the big jousting weekend. Definitley go to the jousting tournament.

Why the hate? Well..... The nerds in wigs, the fat wenches in corsets, the fake limeys(everyone in the rennaisance age was a Brit ya Know), the BAD food. But that's just me!

The impact to traffic! Last Saturday, I decided to run over to the Navy-Rutgers game at the last minute. The traffic clog on MD 450 was over 3 miles, single lane, at least 1/2 hour dealy. Phooey! Festival providers should be compelled to fund to overpasses to address the traffic impact caused by their Festival.

Carry on.

:T2:

Greg
10-20-2006, 10:34 AM
LOL, you want them to spend tens of millions of dollars for a festival that happens a few weeks a year? I know you are smart enough to figure the back way there.

If anybody is at fault it is the county for building those fair grounds and not having adequate roads for such occasions.

RavenScallywag
10-20-2006, 10:53 AM
yeah, that would be my only negative about it. it took us 45 minutes to go 5 miles. They did come up with a longer "traffic beater" route that I didn't try, but it looked like it might the route MistaT got stuck on.

As for the nerds, how is it any worse than a ComicCon or wrestling match? Most of the "nerds" don't even try to engage you, because they're wrapped up in their own groups. It's a lot of fun if you got kids there, and sorry, but the food is pretty damn delicious to me.

plus there's far more good looking girls in corsets than not so good looking girls there.

As for my weekend, I'll be in the same boat as you Greg. A hayride and bonfire that will cost $33. $33 for us to get hay all up in us and get a lighted fire. Hell, I could do those things myself for free!

Speaking of which, and this is totally off topic but there was really no point to this thread to begin with, have you ever seen a concert at Nissan Pavilion? At one point, lasting several miles, you have to drive a lonely two lane road (that is, one lane in each direction). Nice planning -- let's build a concert venue in the middle of nowhere that holds about 20,000 people and make them drive down a country road with one lane in which to drive there. Maybe it's improved since then (I saw one concert there several years ago, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon touring together), but I decided that night I wasn't going back -- if Dylan, Simon, Paul McCartney and the ghosts of Jim Morrison and Elvis Presely and Kurt Cobain were all playing a concert together, I'd pass. Unless I could pay someone a reasonable price to get me transported there, Star Trek style.

I've been to two there, and I remember a long wait to get in, but honestly, I can't remember any specifics about the drive. The last time I went was for Jimmy Buffett, and I did remember cops needing to change the light where people turn onto the road to flashing yellow, because there was a good couple mile backup. That was also some nice planning (they waited till about an hour before the show to have that in place).

Now to totally hijack this thread; Navy-Rutgers...

I watched a Navy game last season (forget the opponent) and it was one of the top three football games I ever saw, as far as being interesting. That Navy option attack is FASCINATING.

No real point to make here, except maybe I wish the NFL was more innovative.

I just got the new DirecTV reciever with HD locals.

Does anyone have a schedule of CBS HD games? I know that they have really screwed us over thus far, does anyone know if the NO game is going to be in HD?

It's been that way for the past three seasons. With three different sets of QBs & RBs. What a system! I can't remember any other team being able to rack up so many yards with so few completed passes. The most effective & exciting offense I've seen in this state since Bert Jones QB's the Colts.

Last time I went, we sprinted (literally) to the lot when the concert was over. We made it out before the rush. It is unbelievable.

I've never gone to Nissan, just because of the headaches. Sucks, 'cause they get some great shows.

Unless I could pay someone a reasonable price to get me transported there, Star Trek style. I took the wife to a Coldplay concert there this summer. We sprinted to the car as soon as the show was over, moved the car foward a few feet, and stayed in that exact spot in the parking lot for 2.5 hours. I'm dead serious. I turned the car off, set my cell phone alarm, and took 30 minute naps until we could get out of there. The concert was over at 11pm - we got home at 10 minutes of 3AM.

If there's a concert at Nissan, it's not in the area. Not even close. I'll never go there again.

The problem is that the people who ran Merriweather actually OWN Nissan, so they book the better shows at Nissan & don't have to split the revenue with anyone. That causes two issues: Merriweather's shows are hostage to what Nissan does, and the idiots booking Nissan think that having a show there serves the "Baltimore-Washington Metro Area". Those shows might as well be in North Carolina - that venue doesn't serve us at all.

Thing is, Nissan is a great venue. Merriweather is terrible, IMO. Really too bad that they can't get one of them right.

I always book a room and stay the night down there every time I go because of the 2 hours it takes to get out of the parking lot.
I have been there 4 times in the past 3 years and stay at the Super 8

That use to be the case but no longer. MPP is managed by the guy who owns the 9:30 Club in DC. He brought some decent shows to MPP this past year. There talking about putting up temporary walls around the pavilion so that they can have shows in the winter time.

I don't think either one of them are that great, really, but I'm not a big outdoor concert guy. I live ten minutes from Merriweather, but I'd rather drive all the way into DC to see a concert at the Warner Theater, which is a great place to see a show. (If it's someone I'd like to see, that is).

I prefer indoor too. Hell, the best concert I've ever seen was in Temple's freaking basketball arena.

back to the tv coverage thing...last week my local fox affiliate (Salisbury MD) showed the Eagles game instead of the Ravens-Panthers; I emailed them and they said the NFL did it. ???
