Just 'aint the same without Al Michaels. It just doesn't seem like it has the importance or grandeur (sp). There doesn't seem to be any........I can't describe it. Something just doesn't seem right.
I don't know---anyone else feelin' this?

I get my Michaels/Madden fix on Sunday nights. Madden is hilarious to listen to. As for the ESPN commentators, I can't speck for them, no cable here.
I'm glad the main prime time game is on Sundays now though, where its supposed to be :insane:

I think it's safe to say that Tony Kornheiser is not going to be around on MNF for very long. He just isn't that good.

I know exactly what you're saying.
I feel the exact same way.
Something about the way Michaels calls the game that makes it different.
Didn't really matter to me who else was with him, it was Monday Night Football when he was on.
Theisman is alright, but I liked him better on Sunday nights with Mcgwire and Patrick.
The set up now just doesn't seem right on reveresed nights.

I hate it! I like Joey T, but those other two are awful.

I'd settle for Frank Gifford.

I always got a good chuckle or two from Paul MacGuire. I miss him. Tony Kornheiser doesn't have "it" as far as I'm concerned. I've never cared for Joe T, he never shuts up. Still like Madden, though his schtick is a bit worn. I just wish they get a good crew and then leave it alone. I don't think Kornheiser is quite as annoying as Dennis Miller was.

I am one of the 10 people in the world that like Dennis Miller*duck*
I thought he was quite amusing.

Don't feel bad Drk, I thought Miller was the best thing to happen to Monday night football since in a long time.
My buddies and I still joke around about that creepy Eagle doll.

I like Mike Tirico as an announcer, but listening to him do play by play just makes me think of college football or NBA basketball. It's like I'm watching Georgia Tech vs. Maryland or something not an NFL game, let alone a primetime spotlight game on Monday night. Maybe its just that Tirico just does too much play by play for ESPN and I'm getting sick of him.. I don't know but I agree with the original poster, it just doesn't seem "special" anymore. I'll continue to give it a chance though because it is still preseason and they might grow on me as the season goes along.

It doesn't seem the same to me either. However, maybe it's just because it's new and a change. Hopefully, it's gets better.

I cannot stand Kornheiser at all.
I didn't watch much last night but from what I did see there wasn't the stupid email's with the "Tony, Tony, Tony" crap.
Did I just miss them or did they wake up and realize that
1. It's a dumb segment and...
2. It's even more dumb to ask the least knowledgeable commentator to comment on viewer's emails.

Torico is pretty good but Korhnolio is really bad. I think Dennis Miller was even better...at least he's somewhat funny.

It's clear they're trying to mix in a little PTI flavor because Kornheiser is in the booth. I don't like it either, it just seems out of place and seems to be distracting from the game.

I never liked Al Michaels, from the beginning. He is NOT a football guy. I did get used to him though, after many years, " the bo-all is spotted on the ...." Don't miss him at all, and even though tirico is very knowledgeable, he is Way Too Vanilla(no pun intended). Now Theisman is a different story, have never been able to stand him. He sucks up to EVERYONE, and often completely mis-reads what he is seeing. However, at least in the first game, Tony has Called him on his suck-upiness.... I like that! Tony is Tony.. His humor and view of things is an acquired taste, and I have a voracious appetite for it! . All in all, it is MUCH better than John 's stating and re-stating the already obvious. "You see, he takes the ball here, and runs it over here...and those kinds a things...." Wow John, did he really do that?... We woulda never known... It will get better, more accurately, we, well at least I will get accustomed to it, and wonder ... Al who?, John who?

I'll reserve judgement until the games count. Neither Sunday Night nor Monday Nights games have seemed very special to me yet. I think Kornheiser will be ok once the regular season starts, but I to thought the 'hey tony, hey tony, hey tony'[ segment was just DUMB.

Michaels is by far my favorite play-by-play man, and Madden is just hilarious with his exagerrations and takes. It's also funny to hear his unintentionally sexual comments. During a Bengals game, he said "the Bengals lead the league in Johnsons". Not to mention last year's classic about "running the ball right up the A-hole".

I think Madden is starting to loose it. But, he is still very knowledgable and he is entertaining. I like hearing his goofy takes as well.
By the way did you hear him use the term Cankles (pronounced Kan-kels). and circle the O-linemens ankles a few years ago.
A Cankle is when your Calves are so fat that they run right down to your ankles, thus; 'cankles'.
His speach was hillarious and I think only interesting to him.

As much as I WANT to like Cornheiser, I can't (on MNF). PTI is great and Tony is a big reason why the show has been so successful, but his schtick doesn't work for MNF.
Theisman is absolute garbage, as was the SNF crew last season. If they want an ex-player up in the booth for commentating, I would think they could do better than Theisman. I know I'm being a big homer here, but Tom Matte would be good for the job (I know, I know).
I actually think Tirico is OK, it's just that the other two guys are no good. Cornheiser should stick to the radio and PTI, and Theisman just needs to go.

I think Mike Tirico is pretty good on the play-by-play, but Theisman can be annoying. I'm not sure what I think of Kornheiser yet, although I agree that the e-mail segment is moronic. It doesn't help that the questions they select to read are idiotic, at least they were for the first game.
I have my doubts about Theisman and Kornheiser being able to coexist all season long, given that they both love to hear themselves talk.

I’d rather listen to Dennis Miller than Theisman. At least Miller was funny…Theisman is just obnoxious. Kornheiser didn’t impress me much, either. ESPN could do a lot better than this. Get Berman in there, at least…
Really and truly, I owe Theisman an apology. I have long said he’s the worst announcer in the history of NFL football, but that was before I got a chance to hear Jaws calling the Ravens/Eagles game on Fox last week. He is without a doubt the biggest two-faced homer I have ever had the displeasure of listening to. I realize he played for Philadephia, but I’ll never be able to watch him on ESPN again without thinking of those wet slurping noises he made whenever he talked about the Eagles.
It was a real hoot to hear him say McNair was “smokin’” last night on the Fastest Minute. I never would have thought so from hearing his commentary on Thursday, that’s for sure.

The problem with Miller was that his jokes were mostly obscure references and not many people got them. I only really laughed at one thing he said. The Bucs were playing the Vikings, and he made some sort of tree analogy about (Warren) Sapp and (Randy) Moss.
I have never really minded Theismann. Don't see what the big issue with him is.

I would have liked to see Monday Night Football bring in Mike Patrick. He did a great job on ESPN Sunday Night Football

If you will go to broadcasts of 3-4 years ago, and compare to last year's games, you will notice that Mike Patrick was getting ... well slow, and lagging behind! Meaning he was losing his edge. I think Espn noticed, and didn't want to begin stewardship of the MNF with ... well, that aspect included!

I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. It is pre-season for them as a new team as well...
However, Joe sounds condescending to me (as usual), an :kissass: and at times "Captain Obvious". :bag:
Time will tell if this new team will work; but so far... It's Great! :261695:

Of all the people possible for ESPN to put on Monday Night Football it's Tirico, Theismann, and Kornheiser. Just doesn't seem right, but I'll be watching regardless.
I realize he played for Philadephia, but I’ll never be able to watch him on ESPN again without thinking of those wet slurping noises he made whenever he talked about the Eagles.
His broadcast was to Philly. If you were an Eagles fan listening to the broadcast back to Baltimore you would have probably thought them homers...because they are. Jaws was concerned with talking about the Eagles because his audience was Eagles fans. For the NFL Network rebroadcast we got our team for the first half and theirs for the second. At first I was annoyed but then I realized he was talking to Eagles fans for the most part.

People were saying the same thing, when Madden joined MNF, about it being just him & Michaels. But obviously, people got used to it.
Anytime something changes, that was as "traditional" as monday night football, there will seem to be a let-down. But NFL Football, is NFL Football, and it's not like the announcers are that bad. I like Tirico & Theisman; and Tony Cornhole won't last 2 seasons on MNF. We'll get used to whomever takes on the roles as ESPN's MNF announcers.
Also, after we've heard them for a few months & the games begin to matter, it will become easier to listen to them. I wouldn't sweat it over the announcers. Will just take some time to get used to them.

I may be in the minority but I think Tony has done great thus far. Of course, I am a big fan, read his books and I listened to his radio show religiously. Don't really mind Theismann as much as some do, and Tirico is solid.
