.........the Chargers. I saw this on ESPN today and Sean Salsbury was all over the Chargers!! His next statement was "the best 5-5 team is the Bengals."

I like was was stated in another thread on this board.

"WE ARE STILL FLYING UNDER THE RADAR!!"

I don't think we are really flying that far under the radar any more. I've heard a lot of talk about us by the talking heads. Salisbury is hardly the ultimate source IMO.

The Chargers are the sexy pick right now.

I turned off that game when it was 24-7. The Broncos with a 17 point lead in Mile High is the closest thing to a mortal lock as there is. I was blown away when I read the score then next day.

That being said, the team that's hot in Week 11 is not always the team that plays best in postseason.

wasn't even a good NFL QB more or less trustworthy NFL analyst for ESPN! He sucked as a QB and he thinks he knows it all when it comes to football, since this is the case, he isn't worth a second thought:insane:

:eyes: We should have beaten the Broncos and the Panthers:grbac: ....If we'd have had Brian Billicks offense all year, we may be 10-0 right now:D

He was also suspended by ESPN a month ago for a week and NOONE noticed! He's that irrelevant and incompetent but everyone now has SD as the best team even though we beat them with Fasselball.

While I never listen to ANY talking heads, It's hard to not like the Chargers.
Yes we beat them, but that was when Marty was still un-certain of his QB and was still trying to play Marty ball. With that running game and an improving every week very good QB, I would put my money on them as would any logical thinking fan that's been watching them at all. I truly hope we don't have to see them again because I fear them more then any other of the teams I suspect will be in the playoffs. And if we do then we can always hope for the usual Marty choke.

Of course that's just my humble opinion and we all know what opinions are.

I hear way too many people saying that the only reason we beat the Chargers is because of Marty ball. Doesnt anyone realize that was the last game we won with Fassel as our OC. I guarantee you that if both of these teams meet up again it will be a completely different game all together. The Chargers did stop playing Martyball which is good for them but if you cannot see our offense improving every single week than nothing I can say is going to matter.

The Ravens finally figured out how to get an effective passing offense going followed by the Falcons game where we pounded them into submission with our run game. If we can just bring our running game and our passing game together than we will have a damn good offense. Combine that with our top 5 defense and I think we will have ourselves a legit Superbowl team.

I still think we can take the Chargers overhyped offense. We have shown the ability to contain LT. If we could just get some more pressure on Rivers than I think we could completely dominate them on defense.

One other note - Stop watching ESPN. These guys will continue to bash the Ravens until we finally win the Superbowl and then they will do a complete 180 with "I told you so" and "The Ravens 2006 Defense is the greatest of all time" and "Mcnair is one of the greatest qb's that ever lived". The bottom line is that ESPN is a joke.

I don't see how Sean Salisbury saying he likes San Diego right now is bashing the Ravens. Like camdenyard said, the Chargers are the sexy pick right now, especially after they torched the Broncos in Denver last week.

As far as Martyball being the only reason we beat them earlier this year, it's not the only reason but it was definitely a factor. Chargers players point to that game as a turning point in their season, because they convinced Marty after that loss to open up the passing game, and he did.

And I actually agree with Saisbury about the Bengals being the best 5-5 team in the conference. They still have a scary offense.

Their over-rated Defense is what cost them that game, not martyball. All they had to do was stop a struggling offense on that final drive and the game was theirs.

We will meet them again in the playoffs (in our house again) and once again we will show them who has the better all around team.

I agree with Mobtown on this one. It was the Chargers defense who couldnt hold up on the final drive, much like ours couldnt hold up against the Panthers. The truth is we both teams are playing better football than when we first met. If/when they meet again it will be an entirely different ball game and you know what? I think we can still beat them.

In the '88 playoffs Winnipeg defeated Hamilton 35-28 to move on to the Eastern Final where they upset the 14-4 Argonauts in Toronto 27-11 to advance to the Grey Cup versus British Columbia. At Ottawa's Lansdowne Park Sean threw for 246 yards and a touchdown as Winnipeg edged out B.C. 22-21 to capture the Grey Cup.

In 1989 Sean returned as Winnipeg's starting quarterback and led the Eastern division with 4,049 yards passing and 26 touchdowns as Winnipeg finished the year 7-11. Salisbury ran into trouble for his attitude with coach Cal Murphy. It was the eve of the 1989 CFL playoffs and Winnipeg GM Cal Murphy had decided to rid the Blue Bombers of their starting quarterback, Sean Salisbury.

And an untried, unproven Lee Saltz replaced him. "Our quarterback was a guy who I thought was the worst starter in CFL history, and I told him that, too," former linebacker James (Wild) West recalled from his Atlanta home recently. "Then we beat Toronto in the semifinal and we gave him the game ball. I told him, 'Yup, you played a great game but you're still the worst starter in CFL history!' But he took it pretty good.

If Brian Billick would have been calling the plays in the games before the bye-week, we might have KILLED the Chargers...Heck, we may be 10-0 right now! We should have beat the snot out of Denver and I know we could have beat the Panthers:nerd:
