Mods I hope you indulge me for a moment before moving this thread.
On 101.9 FM yesterday, Steve Rouse, et al, gave a stat that 85% of men prefer dark meat while 85% of women prefer white meat. So, I will ask you guys and gals here.
Which do you prefer from the turkey?
Myself, it is dark meat all the way. The White meat is okay for sandwiches or salads, but by itself, I will take dark meat everytime.
Happy Thanksgiving (Accion de gracias, todo) everyone.

Dark meat all the way. We have three turkeys and 20 some people here for thanksgiving and the dark goes first. But if you do your turkey's on a grill (Weber Kettle) the white meat is tastier and moister. The real question is Polish or Italian sausage?

I guess I'll be the first to go with white meat. I love turkey breast!! We've done the deep-fried way for a few years and the white meat is quite moist.

White meat for me, nice bit of wholegrain mustard, roast potatoes, yorkshire puds, roast 'snips, veg, stuffing and a few brussells just for roughage.
Enjoy your first turkey day chaps.

White meat! Man, is there anything better than turkey salad the next few days. I don't think so. IMO:thumbup:
Happy Turkey Day!!!

Coin tosser, they're both great. I like doing a 'Henry the Eighth'.
A leg in one hand and a breast in the other. (Should this reply be R' rated?) :)

Gotta add to the Dark crowd, but if the gravy is homemade from the drippins and the base broth from the gibblets/neck meat etc. (like Momma makes), white/dark stuffin, shrooms....hell, moms gravy tastes great on cardboard, which is what the white meat from some of my earlier attempts of roasting a bird came out like!!
Hands down White on white, mayo, lettuce, S&P... YUM.. later in the evening!!
Damn, Getting hungry here!!

Y'all are lucky to not be in a family of vegetarians. Tofu "Turkey" (Tofurkey)does come in both dark and white flavors, but it's all the same.:grbac:

You would think once a year you could put some real meat in your tummy.

Dark, specifically thigh meat, during the Thanksgiving Feast!
With the leftovers, it don't matter at all to me. Lots of options then if the white meat is too dry.
I just hope there's enough meat left on the carcass by Saturday, then I get to make my famous Turkey Noodle Soup!

White or Dark, does it really matter?
It's all pink inside, no?
Oh hell, we're talking about turkeys aren't we?:hammer:
Sorry, couldn't resist.:)

Dark meat tastes better simply because it has more fat in it. White meat is nothing more than lean protien. That is what I go for simply because I am into bodybuilding, but if I was in it simply for the taste, I would go with dark meat.
The real question is Polish or Italian sausage?
There is no question here. It is Polish all the way. I may be a little bias since I am a polock and my grandmother would kill me, but Polish sausage is the best.

White!!! Actually, turkey sucks, unless it's deep fried.

Deep frying turkey? I'm confused, oven roast it for the right amount of time and it stays nice and moist, nice bit of gravy on it, luverly.

I can't get with the "Deep Fried Turkey" concept. As for sausages, for me it is Italian.

When it comes to turkey, I won't even touch dark meat. To me, it tastes too gamy. On the other hand, when it comes to chicken, I prefer dark meat MUCH more than white. Dark meat chicken is just more moist and tastier than white.
However, the best part of the turkey is neither. It's the part that's the worst for you - the skin!! Nobody else in my family will eat the skin, so when I have to carve the turkey, I end up "skinning" it myself before it ever hits the table!! I have my own little feast in the kitchen before going to the dining room!! heh
As for sausages, I'll take Polish over Italian anyday, and that's saying something since I am half Italian. Gimme the old-time Polock Johnny's sausages (the kind with the seeds in it and pop when you bite into it). I went to one of the few remaining Polock Johnny's about 6 months ago (the one on Washington Blvd and Patapsco Ave), and it's nothing like I remember it. Quality has really gone downhill over the years.

There used to be a Polock Johnny's close to Memorial Stadium (Greenmount Ave?). Back in the Colts days at Memorial Stadium, before tailgating got real popular, we would park nearby on side streets (safe back then) and make a bee-line for Polock Johnny's to fill our tummies pregame, avoiding the long concession lines inside Memorial Stadium. I would taste the spices and grease for the next two days!

When a turkey is deep-fried, the super-hot oil cooks the skin almost instantly and seals in the moisture, keeping the white meat quite tender and juicy. Plus, if you inject some creole butter under the skin, that makes it even better.
Tofurkey? Yuck.
