I hate to create yet another Billick thread but I thought this was worthy. My cousin serves in the MDNG and he's stationed in Iraq. He sent me this email yesterday :

"For those of you who follow the Ron Barr Sports radio show, he was broadcasting from here at the Al-Faw Palace today. Brian Billick came with him and it was a great show. Two guys from the 58th got co-host with him and after dinner tonight they came back to our Task Force Raven
Headquarters for a meet and greet. We had an opportunity to ask him questions and get some photos, it was a lot of fun."

I think that was really cool of Billick to spend time with our troops. Also good news is my cousin is coming home after his tour in a few weeks. :patriot:

That sounds very typical of Billick, I don't think even his most passionate detractors would disagree.

But more importantly, for your cousin.

Not a big Billick fan of his coaching obviously if you read some of my posts, but huge, huge props for anyone that does something like this.

This says allot about Brian Billick as a person.

I tell my kids, "some people put athletes on a pedestal, they're not heroes, the real heroes suit up and go to work putting their life on the line everyday to protect the people of this country."

Wow, I would have never thought BB would go over there. Huge props to BB!

I spent a year and a half in and around Bahrain, not during the war but during the Iran hostage thing (a long time ago for our younger posters), and having a friendly face from the USA is more than welcome.

It does speak volumes about his character.

This doesn't surprise me one bit.

Stand up guy and a guy who puts his money where his mouth is.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think the Biscuit made a mistake for the ages. Character speaks volumes, and Billick had it by the boatload with a winning record and a Superbowl ring as an anchor. When this guy is ready to coach again he's going to be one hot commodity.

Geat news about your cousin.

Billick will coach again, and he will win! The guy is a winner, and his best years coaching were the year he won the SB, and those years when his talent pool was decimated due to injury (this past year excluded, of course).

What's also commendable is that he apparently is not going out of his way to publicize this visit -- would we have known about it if not for Bez513's cousin emailing about it? It doesn't sound like he's doing it for show, he's doing it because it's a cool thing to do. Major props to him.

Wouldn't expect anything less from BB. The man has class. Going out of his way to support the troops, not putting it out in the media. How many coaches would have done this after being fired? BB my hat is off to you.

I wanted to update you guys on this story. I asked my cousin if he had a pic and he just sent one to me. My cousin, Dave Causey, is a childhood friend of Nestors. Here is a link to the story and other tidbits on meeting Billick.

There is a pic of Billick, Randy Cross and a 3rd guy (I can't identify him) in the article...its not my cousin but he did email me a pick of him with the three of them.

Enjoy

Thanks for sharing that with us!

Coach Billick has always embraced Baltimore as his home, along with others from Baltimore's illustrious past - Artie, Tom Matte, the late Johnny U, to name but a few. His charitable involvement, and this latest selfless act only makes us appreciate him even more; and, remember, he has set the bar pretty damn high here in Charm City.

The guy on the left is Gus Johnson from CBS.

Kudos to Billick, Cross, and Johnson.
