Awwwww. There's a guy I'd consider for the RoH. A good community guy, always appearing to say and do the right thing.
 Mike, have a cold one with Brian at his palace on the Shore.

I agree.. Bigger question how does OL look in 08.??? A few combination they could go with......( interior ..Guard, Center Guard )
1. Grubbs, Brown, Chester 2. Grubbs, Chester, Brown, 3. Grubbs, Brown , Yanda .....to name a few.. should be interesting.

Wow, that was unexpected. I guess Chester moves to center now?
Anyone know the salary cap implications for this year?

I wasn't expecting that at all, I think the unwillingness to play Chester shows he wasn't considered good enough to even "see what we've got".
If you consider Ogden highly likely to retire I think centre is the ideal spot to get a serviceable veteran in. Someone who is experienced with line calls and can be a leader on the line. As good as Jason Brown is, I'm not particularly comfortable with a 29 game starter being our veteran to gel this young unit together though realise it may not be a choice we have.
I'd be surprised if Brown was moved to centre, I don't think it'd be smart to move him though it could let us slide Yanda inside where he might be better and then plug in Gaither at RT or get a guy like Gosder Cherilus or Jeff Otah to play RT with Gaither pushing Terry aside at LT.
Chester just worries me at C. Most other divisions you can afford a slightly undersized centre because not too many teams actually play with a tackle over the nose, but with us playing the Steelers and Browns running a 3-4, the way he lost the initial contact so much it seemed at guard I'm not sure he's gonna be much good for us at centre.

Thanks for the memories Mike. I can't say I agree with him being in the ROH but if Earnest Byner is just about any Raven veteran qualifies.

So according to the Sun, we save $2 million against the cap with this move.
And options considered are Chester at center, or moving Jason Brown to center with Yanda moving to guard and Terry and Gaither as tackles (assuming Ogden retires).
Terry, Yanda, Brown, Grubbs, Gaither - sounds promising!

Yup, pretty much. Byner being in the RoH irks the hell out of me.
Flynn was overmatched much of the time he played here IMO. He definitely played his ass off every game and for that I thank him.
But I thought this team ignored what I thought was a very obvious weakness at the center position for far too long.
I'm not sure Chester is the answer but I hope they give him a shot. Seems to me they will.

This is the line I've bene hoping they try. If Chester can actually manage to play center (or guard), all the better.

I'm one happy fan, I've been wanting that guy gone for quite awhile. I was tired of seeing him getting pushed out the end of the stadium half the time.

Yeah sorry, to whoever says he should be in the ROH, I just don't see it. He wasn't that good a player. The fact that he stayed in the starting lineup for all those years just shows how piss-poor our O-line has been for so long.

AZRAVEN,
I couldn't agree with you more. I've been cussing his play for the past 5 years or more. He might have been the nicest guy on earth, or was an asset to the community, however he was an overrated center (and guard), and I think he was to blame for about half the times that it looked like Boller tripped over his own feet. Many times it was Flynn getting knocked back into Boller.

I'll say one thing for Flynn, he was usually on the field and rarely suffered from injury.
I'm not so sure Chester is the guy either.
As bad as Flynn was, Chester never beat him out to take that job.
That alone raises concerns about Chester now being ready to take over IMO.
No question about it though, we are moving in a new direction from the previous crop of old vets that have been on that line for years.
I think this almost seals the deal about Ogden not returning.
Flynn and Ogden were pretty tight, and I'm not so sure Ogden would want to return to be the only older vet left out of the group.

I'm surprised at this move but not disappointed. Flynn's a good guy but got knocked backwards too often on passing downs.
And I'm intrigued at what they'll do at center now. I'd like to see them give Chester a shot. He has seemed a little undersized but I think he's more athletic than Flynn. With a new HC, a new OC, and low expectations, why not give him a chance? Seems to be the right time to do it.

It's true that nobody ever "beat him out" but I wonder if that was as much a case of his play as it was the prevailing attitude favoring vets. I will be interested to see if that was just a Billick belief or if it is the philosophy of the organization as a whole.

I like the recdetn moves... it looks like Ogden, Flynn and Mike Anderson are all providing us with some cap room by forgoing a future here. I think that all will retire.
I think Jeff Faine will be getting cut in NO and could be a bit of help inside, or we could draft a mid round guy both inside and outside...
I favor, Terry, Brown, Chester, Grubbs, and Yanda as our starting line, but there certainly is room to play there.

Ya, fair enough.
Understand my Ring of Honor is (1) are they good to the fans, (2) are they good to the team, (3) are they contributing on the field. In about equal proportion. So in my own quirky little vision of the RoH, Flynn might get in on 2 out of 3, but J. Lewis might not, with 1 out of 3.
My own little thing, I certainly won't try to persuade others.
No discussion about the RoH should include the words "If Byner is up there. . ." because obviously he shouldn't be. Consistency with that low standard would ruin the point of *having* a RoH, which is obviously not what we want.

ok, this is driving me nuts!...
We cut Flynn primarily to save 2 mil in cap space. Pair that with the MA cut, and that brings us to about 3.3 mil in space, after the Suggs tag, the Brown tender, and possibly the other RFA tender (either Katula or Justin Green)...
The Redskins were 12 mil OVER the cap. They voided Mark Brunell's contract (without owing him money, wtf?) and now are suddenly under the cap, "just barely"...
How the hell can you get 12 mil of cap savings from cutting one guy?! Was his salary really that bad that it outweighed his remaining bonus money by 12 mil?! I think the Redskins FO are making those "magic cap numbers" again, somehow getting vets to just forego the money owed to them...
Can anyone explain how the hell the Redskins aren't in cap jail?
Didn't see that coming. Seems like this was made to increase cap room IMO.

I agree. The only problem was that they made this about 3 years too late. I could never understand how a lineman that gets blown up every 3rd down managed to remain the starter.
It's clear that Flynn was a "Billick-guy". I wonder how many more vets are slated to go now that Harbaugh is in charge?

Fanatic,
I was thinking the samething when I heard about Flynn being released.
I think this is gonna seal the deal with Ogdens retirement. I gotta feeling there will be more changes coming with this team during the off season that will surprise us all. We shaw see............. :nerd:

I hope this signals a move to get YOUNG...
Out with McNair, maybe Scott, maybe Rolle or Mason... but save for McNair, we will need various ammounts of compensation, I think Scott for example is worth an early day 2 pick... 3 rounder/very top of the 4th...

Why would they get rid of Scott to get younger? He's only about 27.

Is this move really a surprise? He's getting older, we're moving younger across the board in the center of our line, his play isn't markedly better than others we can replace him with, and he saves us cap space.
Good guy, not a great overall player but he did his job. I'm not broken up about seeing him go, but do wish him luck wherever he lands.

ahhh... I was just thinking, one year left on his deal, replaced by Rivers, or T Gooden... Not necissarily a necessity to get younger, just an opportunity.

Who will we replace his parents with?... They were the "deFacto road parents".:229031_confused2:
They were so faithful, maybe they need to be in the RoH!
