PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP)—Two AFC North also-rans, the Baltimore Ravens (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/bal/;_ylt=Ar8k6OuUOfBPADMCSOYLo7gdsLYF) Cincinnati Bengals (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/cin/;_ylt=ArvACZH_8x7nC7iOySQUYu8dsLYF), were awarded the most compensatory picks in this year’s draft.

The Ravens (5-11) and Bengals (7-9) each received four picks, beginning in the third round of the April 26-27 draft. Those picks are slotted at the end of each of the last five rounds.

Baltimore lost four compensatory free agents in 2007, including star linebacker Adalius Thomas (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5215/;_ylt=AmCCNJ7M.SiQSb.KGhmQVtMdsLYF) to New England, and didn’t sign any. Cincinnati lost five such free agents, the best of which was guard Eric Steinbach (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6369/;_ylt=ApEAv_ahBYafVzaZPBHujGodsLYF), who signed with Cleveland.

Only Washington, which was given the top compensatory selection, 96th overall (33rd in the third round), Cincinnati (97th), Atlanta (98th) and Baltimore (99th) got extra choices in the third round.

UPDATE : Here are the selections, according to an Associated Press story: third round (99th overall), fourth round (133rd overall), sixth round (206th overall), seventh round (240th overall).

Outside of being last in the third round (have to find something to complain about, right?) I think this was more than fair and worked out well for us. I don't think we are going to have any comp picks next year though, so we need to make these count.

Boy and even more impressive, this guy (http://www.kffl.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3971358#post3971358) nailed the guess 100% on March 4th!

I checked back as soon as I saw and noticed he got our projection right, btu did he nail the entire thing? In order?

He has a tremendous track record of nailing his projections dead on, it's not at all surprising that he got it dead right. Apparently he's done some work before with a front office in the league so I'm guessing he has contacts that means he knows the formula by which the compensatory picks are calculated.

I don't think he has the formula (he says in his post that he doesn't). I think he probably reverse-engineered his own formula. Whatever the case, the formula he's using it ridiculously spot on.

Anyone else perturbed that the Deadskins got a 3rd rounder? (and the highest 3rd rounder at that!)

I'm hoping they use it on some unheard-of cousin of a brother of step-son of a former NFL great. They seem to like drafting based on hopeful genetics.

Yeah - I just saw that. $7.1 million per for 7 years.

Given this guys past predictions I figured he'd be close or on the mark.:word

Given the quality of comp picks the Ravens were awarded, hopefully it will soften the blow to the fans that were complaining Ozzie gave up too much for McGahee.:grbac: Whatever happened to that crowd anyway? :rolling:

A Pro Bowl running back for 2 thirds? The third was so low last year it may have well been a fourth, you've got to be kidding.............:insane:

My impression was that more people were upset about what we PAID McGahee than what we gave up to get him...

I also thought the contract was a little high as well until the deal was spelled out by the insiders.
However I still remember people on the web and callers on talk shows complaining about the picks given up.

LOL, like on what planet do you get a franchise calibre' back for two 3rds?

I don't think McGahee will ever see the end of that current contract.
The more quality seasons McGahee puts together the quicker Drew Rosenhaus and WM start making noise for a new contract. The Over/Under for those two to start saying McGahee has outplayed his new contract is 2 more seasons IMHO.

Like RR said, there were plenty of people here and around town bitching that we gave up too much in terms of picks for McGahee.

I found it laughable then as I do now.
