View Full Version : When you think of Baltimore, it's crabcakes, Johnny U. and the Ravens' defense

Best national news media article on the Ravens since the 4-0 start:
Clark Judge article at cbs.sportsline.com (http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9863402):
There is no better team in the NFL than San Diego, but that doesn't mean the Chargers shouldn't be looking over their shoulders. They should, and it's not Indianapolis I'm talking about.
It's Baltimore.
... Baltimore is one of only two teams to beat San Diego this season. Kansas City is the other.
..... Which takes us to Baltimore. More than anyone else in the AFC, this club is built to beat the Chargers, because this club is built to stop the run.
I don't want Lady Raven to have to go out and kill chickens because I'm looking ahead, but I'm stoked after today. I can easily visualize the AFC Conference game rematch between the Ravens & Chargers - hopefully here!

If the Chargers could go ahead and lose a couple of more times, that would be just peaches.
The good thing is that defense travels and the Chargers really don't have one right now. I feel comfortable with going there in the play-offs. I'd rather have it in Baltimore, but I think we can beat them in San Diago.

If you got to go on the road for a playoff game, San Diego is probably the place you want to go.
Other then the cross country flight, not much else can come into play.
It ain't gonna be cold or hot.
Odds on favorite it will be dry.
Crowd isn't exactly a major factor which apparently doesn't seem to bother us anyway.
With that being said, I'd rather make them come here!!
Real nice article there, but I'd just assume stay flying under the radar with little respect or recognition.

With LT setting the TD record and Indy giving up 375 on the ground we will be "under the radar" at least 1 more week. All the national media will talk about is those 2 things. And that is fine by me.

If we end up playing the Chargers it will be out there they are not going to lose a couple of times to finish this season. However we are a long way from that game anyway.

We might be under the media's radar but we aren't under the league's. And that being said, Collingsworth and a few others are talking about us being the team to knock the Chargers off that pedestal.
I will sweat any team we come up against but the Chargers are the toughest RIGHT NOW. The problem they have is Marty has gone into the playoffs and choked more than any other coach in history. I can see him freezing up against our defense and going Marty ball.
But let's forget that, we have to worry about C-choke. Let's take care of the Clowns next week and then move on to Pittspuke and then the Bills here. We need to win out and hope the others stumble. As much as KC had that supposed homefield December advantage no team other team in the playoff hunt now (with Denver effectively done) has a better homefield advantage. If we get homefield throughout we should roll. But again...one game at a time...and add one chicken for me to your next service, LR.

From the article:
What's more, the Ravens did it a week after getting flattened by Cincinnati.
Maybe I fell asleep during the 4th quarter as Palmer threw five unanswered touchdowns, but I remember losing by only a touchdown. What's with this "flattened" stuff? I swear that game is being treated by the media as the most decisive seven point loss in the history of the sport.
As for "under the radar" ...

Well, boys, we got three engines out, we got more holes in us than a horse trader's mule, the radio is gone and we're leaking fuel and if we was flying any lower why we'd need sleigh bells on this thing... but we got one little budge on them Rooskies. At this height why they might harpoon us but they dang sure ain't gonna spot us on no radar screen!
Interesting Strangelove-Ravens connection: the recall code was an anagram of "POE" ("OPE").
Peace on Earth. Purity of Essence.

Sounds good, except for the fact that you have to play the hottest team in football right now ;)
Granted, I think the Chargers are beatable in SD. I don't fear that place or anything.
Let's just win out, get a top 2 seed, and hope someone beats SD before we get to them :)

Is is my understanding that we have tie-breakers over SD, and therefore they will only have to lose once to give us no1 seed (assuming we win out).
They play KC / @Seattle / AZ
I'll settle for no2 seed, if they lose in play-offs we would get the home game (assuming we win).
We are a much better team given a week off.
Indy has the tie breaker on us, so we are 3 right now. They have a 2-1 record vs. common opponents while we are 1-1 (Denver and Tennessee). We need Cincy or somebody else to knock them off and we need to win out. And/Or we need a SD loss. We need some help to get a first round bye.

Damn straight.
This is such as fantastic time to be a Ravens fan. I think I pumped my fist more yesterday than I did duiring the Super Bowl!!
Going for a bye has so much meaning to me. The way this team plays after a rest is unbelievable. I think it's the key to going all the way. Much like the 2000 season, it looks like whomever comes out of the AFC Championship is going to win the Bowl, And our chances are much better playing the AFC Championship game in cold & windy M&T!

Can you tell me how this post makes sense? If we are 1-1 against common opponents, how can Indy be 2-1? that's not possible!!!!!

The Colts have played the Titans twice (divisional opponent) winning once and losing once. The Colts also beat the Broncos.
Actually the Colts are 3-1 against common opponents, since they've beaten the Bills, a team we play on Dec 31. Hopefully the Ravens win that game to go 2-1 and the Colts drop another game along the way to give them a worse conference record.

Actually it will all change even more when Indy plays Cinci!... We need to beat Buffalo, and they need to lose that one!!!!:hammer:If they lose that one, they will be 3-2. If we beat Buf, we will be 3-2, then I guess it's strength of victory?... Who was it that said losing to Cinci wasn't all that bad?

What the hell does strenght of victory mean? Does it mean point differential in common opponents? Someone please clarify. This has bothered me since last night. Thanks.

I just found this on the Web:
Definition: A part of the NFL's tiebreaking proceedure, strength of victory is figured by calculating the combined winning percentage of the opponents a team has beaten.
Examples: If two teams end with identical records, combine the records of the opponents in each of the team's wins and calculate the total winning percentage. The team whose opponents have the higher winning percentage wins the tiebreaker.

Glad to help. When I saw that question, I had the same thought-what the hell is it. So I lucked out and found it on the web.
