Looking for your help....it's a subject that has been discussed often and there's never been a consensus pick. What is the right nickname for the Ravens defense? After all this time they are deserving of something but what.
We have a poll on the home page. Your vote is welcomed and appreciated: http://www.profootball24x7.com/:glasses:

I really like "Organized Chaos." I think Bart Scott came up with that one...?

2000 D was better and didn't have a nickname, this is great but not as great, no gimmick needed.

"Organized Chaos" is okay but kind of long, "Purple Pain" is alright too.
The problem is you just can't force these things. One day somebody will come up with something and everybody will like it and start using it.
Examples of just happening.
The "HEEEEEEEAP" yell just happened and as an extension we also now have "REEEEEEEEED."
Example of attempted forced one.
That idiotic "GO, RAVE, GO!" they copied from the Packers.
They don't mean shit if they don't happen naturally.

Ther ought to be a way to work in the word Craven: Defeated, Vanquished, contemptibly fainthearted( like the Steelerz)

Precisely, you look at some of the old D's with the nicknames, I believe the Purple Eaters and the Killer B's etc. were named after the fact, not mid-season when there's still time for said unit to completely lay an egg when it counts and completely leave the fans with egg on their faces.

I coined the Purple Pain name during our Superbowl season back on the old Ravensnest Board, but I also like the Darkside Defense as well.
Maybe I'll create a sign and get it shown on CBS Sunday...That might spark the talking heads in the media to give our defense an official title...

Since we have the best Redzone defense...how about the "DeadZone D!"
Or as stated in another article....BALTIMORE'S ELITE GAURD, since teams "beg" for points against us, otherwise known as the BEG D!

The Conqueror Worm Defense
Lo! 'tis a gala night
Within the lonesome latter years!
An angel throng, bewinged, bedight
In veils, and drowned in tears,
Sit in a theatre, to see
A play of hopes and fears,
While the orchestra breathes fitfully
The music of the spheres.
Mimes, in the form of God on high,
Mutter and mumble low,
And hither and thither fly-
Mere puppets they, who come and go
At bidding of vast formless things
That shift the scenery to and fro,
Flapping from out their Condor wings
Invisible Woe!
That motley drama- oh, be sure
It shall not be forgot!
With its Phantom chased for evermore,
By a crowd that seize it not,
Through a circle that ever returneth in
To the self-same spot,
And much of Madness, and more of Sin,
And Horror the soul of the plot.
But see, amid the mimic rout
A crawling shape intrude!
A blood-red thing that writhes from out
The scenic solitude!
It writhes!- it writhes!- with mortal pangs
The mimes become its food,
And seraphs sob at vermin fangs
In human gore imbued.
Out- out are the lights- out all!
And, over each quivering form,
The curtain, a funeral pall,
Comes down with the rush of a storm,
While the angels, all pallid and wan,
Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, "Man,"
And its hero the Conqueror Worm.
It's Poe (Ravens).
It's Scary (Ravens Defense).
It has actors (Some opponents act like they're not scared).
It has quivering forms and funeral palls (RuthlessBurger got Jacked Up).

America's Nightmare.
Simple, direct, and speaks to the fact that all the pundits worst nightmare is the Ravens taking the trophy again.

Not wanting to be a party pooper - but I do not like the names idea. It's like standing up against a wall with a placard round your neck saying 'Shoot me!'
I like the idea that we fly so much under the media radar that we do not get a 'name' - other than World Champions! This is for a team - not just a 'D'.

Primarily I agree with Greg, if nicknames aren't spontaneous, they sound forced, don't catch on, and don't mean jack.
Having said that, I really like
Darkside Defense
Maybe I just missed it since the home page has so much stuff on it, but I didn't see any poll there for this topic.
