Interesting that a seasoned, veteran pass-catching TE can sit rotting on the vine whicle the Ravens convert freaking linebackers to TE.

I saw that too and had the same reaction. Is the team like $5 under the cap or something? You are allowed to pay players more than the league minimum.

According to PFT, we are $7 million under. There are 12 teams in worse shape than us, and 19 with more room than us. 4 teams (Chiefs, Bucs, Pack, Bills) have more than $20mil in space. We are just a touch lower than average.

The Biscuit might have us saving our money to give Ray Ray a record pay day.

i wouldn't blame Ozzie too much on this one. Pollard might've been looking for a starting opportunity, and if Heap is healthy, he's our guy.

You think Pollard was sitting at home on August 24 twidding his fingers just because he was waiting for a starting gig? Gee, I suppose that is possible :eyes:
Keep in mind that many teams run 2 TE offenses. Like the Ravens.
But you are right, we have Wilcox, who hasn't played basically since sometime in 2006 and is still a gimp, and Heap, whose calf ouchie could keep him out...well, who the hell knows?
We lived TE Hell last year, and it looks like we are paddling right down that same stream this year...and over the same waterfall.

Cam certainly ran a lot of two TE formations last year with Justin Peele and David Martin, so I'm surprised we've not pursued a few more TEs beyond Adam Bergen and Walker (can't remember his first name). Now, just because he ran it a lot with the Dolphins personnel last year doesn't mean he won't run more 3 WR stuff this year (I actually think we will run more 3 WR then 2 TE). But I agree with CY, with the injury status of Heap and Wilcox, the lack of acquisition of more depth or competition at TE (to ensure even if we only carry one more than limp and gimpy that we've got the best possible player to come in and start when they go down) is baffling.

A friend of mine told me he heard Heap may not be able to play this season. Has anyone else heard this? If true this is ridiculous. I think guys could come back from a broken neck faster than he has recovered from this bruise. If he misses considerable time this season then we need to seriously consider cutting our losses.

i'd hope that if Heap's injury was that serious, we'd be trying to find a more dependable starter than Adam Bergen or Aaron Walker. So I'd tenatively say that's an overstatement of Heap's condition.
It's sad really...when Heap is healthy, we wouldn't even consider signing Pollard. But he's had a hard time getting healthy these past few years. Maybe it would be better to just sit him for a year so he can work out all the health issues?

Can a torn labia really be a season ending injury?

I don't even think he tore it, just a little sand in the vagina.
I certainly don't see any reason to sit a guy for a season who is making millions a year so he can get over his "health issues". I mean, what the hell is really wrong with this clown? Samari Rolle can go into a seizure if he looks at the Jumbotron after a TD, and he at least tries to take the field. Lance Armstrong had one of his balls removed and was brought to the brink of death to cure his cancer and he managed to dominate a sport that requires sitting on a bicycle seat for hours a day.
There seems to be some kind of training or conditioning problem with this team. Mysterious injuries that seem incredibly minor seem to nag players for months. I think alot of them just don't feel like taking the field.

and todd heap has missed how many regular season games this year????
ummmm none so far.....i really think they dont want him getting hit in preseason, and just saving him for the big game when it counts. yes he has a track record of lingering injuries...but he is still practicing...so im not worried..yet.
Marcus Pollard...had 273yds and 2 tds (14 games)....Heap who only played in 5 games had 239yds and 1 td last year.
Pollard is another "big name" you hear and say lets get him, but he only had 100yds in 2006...he is on his way out....we dont need another mcnair on this team.

No, we don't want another real pro at his position. McNair only helped us to a 13-3 record in '06.
Look, my point wasn't so much that we should be bringing in vets who are long in the tooth, it's that we seem to do bizzare things like switch a linebacker to the TE position before looking around for someone who actually KNOWS what the hell he's doing. JHC, we have a 2nd round bust as an undersized center who will never make it on the OL, who was converted from TE in college. Why the hell wouldn't the Ravens ummmm...try playing HIM at TE?
Is this that freakin' complicated?

I think Ozzie is saving some cap money to pick up another 2 Hybrid DE's, so we have 10.
I thought he would pick up Pollard, but I'm sure that a HLBDETE (that's hybrid, linebacker, D end, T end) will get the job done. :eyes:
We have zero depth or veteran talent at Tackle, and I guarantee that once we start losing, a few of our high dollar players will decide that their minor injuries are just enough to keep them off the field, like we saw after the NE game last year. You know the guys that Ozzie made the highest paid at their position when last we signed them.
Jarret Johnson is the only starting LB signed for next year, Demetrius Williams is up for a new contract, Kyle will be gone, and we will still have no talent at Tackle, but Ozzie will break the bank to sign Suggs who had 5 sacks last year. This year we are paying him somewhere between the best LB and DE, as far as sacks go, he ranked 40th as a DE and 14th as a LB. Good move Ozzie!!!!!:taz:

Edgar Jones looked fine at TE against the Rams. He has the size and attitude for blocking, and showed soft enough hands to catch everything thrown to him.
I don't understand why we didn't bring in Pollard and, even though cap tough, at least taken a look at Favre to mentor Flacco for a year. With dropping Boller's contract Favre becomes somewhat reasonable cap wise.

The Ravens swing and miss on this one.At least bring the guy in for a tryout.
We are a mess on offense. Its like a wounded man bleeding all over his body and he only has one bandage.
QB all over the place,OT all over the place,TE all over the place,WR ok but no speed. We need rocket fuel in the engines not co2.
