Not sure if this has been reported, but the calf injury isn't the only thing weighing on Heap's mind these days. His mother-in-law is going through the final stages of a terminal illness, and he's been away a bit due to this.

My prayers go out to Todd and his family.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I'm just trying to deal with reality here. How much paid time off would you receive if your mother-in-law was terminally ill?

I'm not sure the question is relevant. He's injured, he's not practicing, he's not playing, so if he's out of town what's the difference.

Heap has a tight-knit family. Samari Rolle got significant time off, as did JO.

As long as Heap is ready for the opener I don't see what the big deal is. His family needs him now and that should be his #1 priority, not football.

A LOT !!!

My wife was devastated when an illness took her mother. A wife deserves her husband when she is at her weakest.

You're pathetic.

Clearly, you've never worked a contract job before.

Back to ignores-ville with you.

Is it that ridiculous a question?

I know of many jobs where a mother in law's terminal illness doesn't mean you can take off ANY time unless you use your vacation days.

I understand the emotion about it but that's reality.

You're comparing a contract job with an at-will job.

Two totally different animals.

I see no problem with Todd Heap missing a little time because of a family situation. It is the 4th preseason game which means absolutely nothing. You have to remember, he has 3 small children to care for. His wife's duty right now is to her mother and she should be with her mother as much as possible. Todd Heap's vacation days are those days that are approved by the coach and front office management. Obviously, it is not a problem with them, so he is using his "Vacation Days." Have a heart people. I am sure he will be playing on Sept. 7th.
