In the wake of Harbaugh's first win as an NFL head coach and a very good NFL debut by Flacco, let's not overlook the performance of the Ravens defense, which seems to be as good as ever. The Bengals got only 8 first downs the whole game (at least two on penalties), 158 yards of total offense, and went 2-for-13 on third down conversions.

That's impressive. I was sure the D would once again be the strong point of the team, but I didn't see them shutting down the Bengals as throughly as this. They totally shut them down. If not for the penalties on McAlister and the Rice fumble, the Bengals could have been shut out.

100% agree. I still didn't feel comfortable with our secondary everytime Palmer dropped back in the 2nd half, but they came through. I was so happy Reed was back there covering everyone's asses. He literally covers half the field at one time. Such an amazing luxury to have. Fingers crossed everyone stays healthy!

However, I don't mean to change the subject off such a high note, but on Rolle's fumble recovery he threw the ball downfield after the whistle and was called for unsportsmanlike (the play was eventually ruled an incomplete pass by the bengals and they punted), but that seemed like a bit of the old undisciplined arrogance creeping back onto the field again (reminiscent of the Bart throwing the flag during the pats' game last year). I really hope Harbaugh makes it clear he isn't going to tolerate that shit.

They looked fantastic today. The key to the success for the D this year will be the pressure we put on opposing QB, unlike last year when we had no pressure at all....

I, for one, am getting sick and tired of Ray Lewis and his antics...

Okay Ray, we get it-- You don't know the meaning of the phrase "take a play off" or "I'm getting older" when you're on a football field. Do you have to keep rubbing the opposing team's nose in it though?

We understand that you've made the Ravens-- and by default, the entire City of Baltimore, the epicenter of NFL DEFENSE since the day you were drafted, but must you continuously cement your legacy as the greatest MLB of alltime by making play after breathtaking play, season after season?

Where exactly do you get off leading your defense like a Purple and Black Scourge across the countryside of the Cincinnati offense, laying waste to those Sigfried & Roy wannabees like Attila the Hun and his squad of sadistic Marauders?!!

Stop it #52... it's getting to be embarassing. Please give the other MLBs in the league a chance to shine.

On second thought, 'F em'. Keep doing what you've always done!

P.S. Keep the pre-game dance too... it's pretty F'n kewl...

DITTO!! Masking the blitz packages, keeping the pressure constantly on, and hoping no further injuries befall the likes of Cmac, Rolle, and Reed should be recipe for a very interesting season!!!

Best qoute I heard all day was from #52's mouth "Don't try to run the ball on my defense that is insulting"

IMHO, its important to point out that Reed is back, but not back 100%

He is playing hurt and, if the reports about his nerve issues are accurate, is more likely then not medicated while he is playing.

He is one gutsy player, thats for sure.

There were some on this board actually accusing him of being soft. I think this should pretty much put those naysayers to rest.

In the pre-game thread, I said I was feeling a shutout. My friends thought I was crazy, proclaiming opening day shutout again Carson, Ocho, TJ.

Aside from a penalty aided drive that should never have happened (if only we had run down the clock before halftime), and a Ray Rice fumble, we had our shutout.

The Bad Boys of Baltimore are BACK!!! And with #52 on the field, was there ever any doubt??

Its great to see real offense, trick play TDs, Flacco looking poised and in control, all that.

But the essence of Bmore football will always be 4th and inches, 1 possession game, gettem off the field and you win. Our will against their will.

I'm concerned about Corey Ivy. He was in some serious pain.

should have been a shut out...the refs missed a delay of game call on the Bengals on the 15ish yard pass that preceeded the field goal at the end of the first half...

I was flipping out in my seat, the refs did it two or three times yesterday, once it worked out because Palmer threw incomplete. But it is absolutely unfathomable to me that refs can miss a delay of game penalty like that...it is the one bad officiating thing that shoudln't ever happen; when the clock hits zero, the flag's on the groud, I don't see how you can fuck that up you pay the umpire to watch the play clock.

I counted 3 times that the Bungles did not get the play off in time and the clow.....er refs only caught one.

Held Carson Plamer to 99 yards passing. WOW

This defense looked like the old defense.

I think they got called twice for delay, but I'm sure the refs missed a least a couple more. The Bengals had a lot of problems yesterday getting plays off on time. I don't know if the defensive shifts or formations confused them, or maybe it was the crowd noise, but they frequently looked very disorganized.

The crowd had a big part.
