Now that the obvious has been stated by Harbaugh, maybe we won't have 3 page long threads about Troy Smith starting or bringing in a veteran to take over for Flacco.
Once he started week 1, he was the starter for the long haul barring injury.
The fact that Harbaugh said this 3 days after Flacco's worst start by far only emphasizes the fact that there was never a doubt.

This won't stop people from talking about the possibility, PP...
You know that!

This just means we'll have morons like one caller to the Anita Marks show who said Flacco was a "bum".
A "bum"???? The guy didn't come out and say Troy Smith would be better, but it was implied. Flacco has outplayed EVERY QB he's faced this year. He may not have the best stat line, but he's not losing us games and he's making the plays to keep us in games.
We'll probably still hear people who want to say that Troy would give us a better chance of winning or some BS like that. People in this town demand immediate results, and this reminds me a lot of the people who were overjoyed when KB got injured and Wright came in.
Harbs, thanks for clarifying your statement. And here's hoping that someday soon, Baltimore fans stop second guessing anything we do the least bit wrong.

How many games has Troy Smith played in the NFL? He is still a rookie too, so to say that Troy would do better than Flacco, would be ludicrous:crazy: While I'll agree with everyone that Flacco should be our starter for the remainder of the season, the above statement isn't completely true...I do believe it WAS the Steeler game that Flacco lost for us...You can say it was the defense, but if it wasn't for Flacco's fumble(momentum Steelers), I do believe we would have won that game..And the Titan's game was borderline Flacco's fault too.:o I believe that if we had a veteran QB for both these games, we'd be 4-0 :eyes: JMO

What Veteran would you have wanted to make us this 4-0 team? Farve??? Cost was too high for a 1-2 year band-aid. Now who else would you have wanted? All the real #1 starters are starting and to be honest not many teams have a great QB. Flacco is our future QB and he should be in the game now. When the new staff, new line and new QB learn together we can only get better.
Now if we start getting worst then we look at the band-aid and then redraft until we get it right. Look around the NFL, What QBs play perfect every week. Look at both Manning boys first year and then think about Flacco.
Simple fact of life ... Troy had a chance and lost it due to illness. I know it was not his fault but it was not Flacco that took the job away from him. Once Joe was handed the keys he needs to keep driving ......
As some guy named Frankie once said ... RELAX !!

I don't think Troy Smith outplayed Boller in the preseason and I think Flacco has done at least as well as Boller.

Thanks. I'm a relative newbie and I like this board. Lotsa good opinions and knowledge.
Also, I think it's a good idea for Harbaugh to name Flacco as the starter because Joe won't be worrying that a screw up will cost him the starting job. The rook has enough pressure on him as it is. The more relaxed he is, the better he'll play...hopefully.

I see this as good news. Now Flacco doesn't have to look over his shoulder and can go through his learning process with much less pressure.
I think this is also a sign from the team that they know barring a miracle, we're not heading to the playoffs, especially with the NFL bending us over on that Week 2 bye BS. So why not let the guy take his lumps knowing that we're playing for the future?
I'm 100% ok with this move and the thought behind it (pending that is the thought behind it).

Good move. Obvious, but good. Ends any speculation.
Heres to hoping he can have a good game against a somewhat weak D this weekend.
