What did everyone think of the officiating today? I thought it was pretty bad. First play that comes to mind is the Frank Walker INT that turned into a Braylon Edwards TD. When they came down and hit the turf it was clear Walker had possession, but Edwards tried to put his hands around the ball and the officials bought it. I understand a tie goes to the WR but it wasn't a tie when they first landed.
Then the rushing TD that wasn't. It was clear he didn't get in, even in real time, the official should have caught that. I realize they probably would have scored anyway but still.
They also missed an obvious off sides too, even Flacco was wondering about that one and he usually doesn't show emotions like that on the field.
Speaking of Flacco, how about when he was sacked with an arm around his neck. Suggs touches a guy on the shoulder pads and gets 15, but a head lock tackle on the QB gets nothing?
There were a few others, but I really wasn't impressed overall, luckily it didn't cost us the game.

I only complain about officiating when we lose. :)

A tie between the defender and WR goes to the WR. That wasnt an INT and a good call by the refs.
I will give you the botched TD, but those things happen. It was a close call and we didnt have the luxury of being the home team with home team replays.

How about the no call on the 3rd down play where the whole Browns DL came across the LOS before the ball was snapped?

I thought Gannon said Brown had snapped the ball early on that play when Flacco didn't expect it and before any of the other linemen had moved. I guess that's why it looked like the Browns were all offsides.
Harbs should have challenged the TD call where it looked like the guy was stopped short, but again - we won so I'm not complaining too loud.

I agree, but that was a first and goal from the 1 even without the TD. And they have Jamal Lewis. Our defense is good - probably not that good.

Horrible, I counted 2 facemask and 6 general muggings/holding. Not much to do about it.

Horrible officiating as usual. The NFL needs to get full time refs and not people working secondary employment on Sudays.

I have to agree if you watch the tape, Edwards only has one hand on the ball at one point. Ball was frank Walkers but the official may not have been able to see that angle.

They also missed an obvious off sides too, even Flacco was wondering about that one and he usually doesn't show emotions like that on the field. That was absolutely horrendous the browns had like 3 guys in the neutral zone/offsides on that play

There was a play in the first quarter where Alex Hall gave him a blow to the face mask, I think it was on the intentional grounding . Nothing called of course.

THIS IS WHY YOU HAVE TO W A T C H THE GAME! Gannon said it LOOKED like Brown snapped it late, but he did NOT.
There were a couple of calls that the line judge and back judge missed or blew. It's typical though, it is the same garbage we have seen since 2000.

Yea don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to complain after a great win, but the officiating was pretty bad you have to admit.
And I remember that play where Gannon said Brown snapped the ball early, but if you watch it on DVR in slow motion he doesn't, there were three Browns in the neutral zone when the ball was snapped, it wasn't even close. The play resulted in a sack too, I wonder why.

Yup. Gannon said he thought Brown snapped it early but on the replay it was clear that he didn't.
The refereeing in this league is abysmal.

Just for the record, the jump-ball TD was probably a good call. It looked like a tie to me anyway. In this photo (from Clev. Plain-Dealer) it is a tie at least.

The no-call offside, on the other hand ...

Do you think NFL Network will air this major fudge-up by the officials? Probably not, but they need to ask that ever knowing head of officials to put it on his weekly review:nerd:

I think it has a good chance of being one of the games of the week shown in Replay, but as far as bringing it up to Mike Pierra (sp?) the head of officials, I hope they don't. Reason being is that he is such a freakin' apologist for his men and has no business having a segment where he is supposed to tell us if the call was right or wrong, when all he tells is that they are all right (with few exceptions).
When he said that the reciever from the Patriots had control of the winning TD pass against the Ravens, stating you could see his fingertips on the ball, I almost threw my remote through the screen at him.
He along with his staff of zebras are officiating a billion dollar business and stink.

Clearly it should have been a INT for Walkers. The official made a bad call on the play. Walkers had more hands around the ball then Edwards did, but we did win the game so I'm not too upset about the bad call.

Exactly. This is a multi billion dollar operation. Hire some full time officials and train them up all week long. Have them ref at practice and watch film. There is way too much at stake for guys not to know the rules or miss obvious calls with no secondary system to correct the human element.
Why not review every play automatically like they do in college? They should also correct bad calls and missed calls obvious to the live TV audience. There is more than enough time between plays for an officail to look at the replay and decide if there was an error worth stopping the action for. It should not all be on the coaches to gamble time outs to get the calls right.
I did not feel like the refs were out to get us this time, but they were not very good as usual. The TD to Edwards was questionable. the tie does go the Wr, but it did not look like a tie to me, and he let go of the ball a little early it seemed, and was sort of bobling it, not controling it. If he was on the verge of going out of bounds or something, I do not think they would have said he established possesion. It was close enough though that it was not a bad call, just a great play either way.
I would like to see a better way to determine goal line situations. Maybe some sort of sensor system, or just make the rule that you actually have to touch down some part of your body or the ball into the ground of the endzone that will be clearly visable. The whole broke the plane stuff never really seemed right to me. Touch down, not broke the plane.
