Okay, the question was posed to Aaron Wilson as to how much cap room we will have this year, and Aaron Wilson guessed between 10M and 15M. What are you basing your cap numbers from BRavor? Wilson guesstimated that the cap would be at 109M. Is that accurate or will this number be even higher this year? It is not that I don't trust your info as you are most reliable, but there is some issue as to what the cap will actually be this 2007 season.

I truly hope Aaron is correct, but I think he's way off.

My numbers have us around $3.7M under.

There was a report out of Charlotte in Dec that had the Ravens around $5M under.

Both of those figures would include Jamal's healthy cap number (which won't happen at that number), but would not include the tenders for our RFAs and EFAs. Without doing the numbers, I'm guessing that those numbers - cap space saved by Jamal's release versus RFA and EFA tenders - are going to pretty much be a wash.

Perhaps, Aaron is considering that we are $5M under and will get $8M is savings by releasing Jamal, without considering that we only have 38 players under contract and 4 RFAs and 8 EFAs to tender.

So, unless, they are carrying over a sizeable amount of unused cap space or they are planning on restructuring a ton of deals, I can't see how they will have that much cap space.

The CBA says the cap will be $109M.

Whether there are possible adjustments or not remains to be seen?

BTW, the above numbers have nothing to do with where the cap will be - those numbers, if those players are cut/traded/retire, will be the same regardless of what the overall cap is.

B Ravor as I understand the cap & the franchise tag, whatever final number they would come up with for AD will count 100% against our cap space. Is that correct?

Thanks for your posts and all the work that goes into them.

Yes. I'm guessing that they will need approx. $8M in cap space to tag AD (last year's franchise tag was around $7.2M for LBs). It will all count against the 2007 cap. If they can reach a long-term deal with him, they would be better off because the 2007 cap number from the deal would be far less (approx. $2.5-3M, I would guess).

To do so, they would probably have to restructure a bunch of contracts to create cap room. Since Suggs got the $5M escalator, they would almost have to redo deals, otherwise, I just don't see where the cap space is going to come from (unless, they have some carryover space - via unearned incentives - from this year that I am not aware of).

If the cap is going to rise to 109 mil this year, then what was it originally? 90ish?

There was never a previous cap number for 2007, since under the prior CBA, 2007 would have become an uncapped year if there had been no CBA extension. Once the extension was agreed to last March, the 2007 cap was set at $109M.

BRavor,

What would the cap ramifications be with cutting Mike Anderson? If we are bringing a RB in as well as drafting a RB, then why keep MA?

The would only save $200K if released before June 1. His 2007 cap number is $1.7M ($500K bonus share + $1.2M base salary).

He got a $2M bonus, 3/4 of which would accelerate and count $1.5M if released for a savings of $200K.

If he is traded/released after June 1, they would save $1.2M against the cap this year (with $500K still counting as dead money), but get hit with $1M in dead money in 2008.

The biggest saving would be if Ogden retires.

If he does, his cap hit isn't accelerated into this year, but we drop his salary, which I'm not sure of the ammount.
