For those who are unhappy with the NFL's plan to require each team to play a game outside the US once every 16 years, here's good news (http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9915803):

San Francisco, Seattle and Miami were among six NFL teams selected as potential home teams for a regular-season game next year in Britain or Germany. The other teams that could "host" the game are Buffalo, Kansas City and New Orleans.

Since the Ravens are scheduled to play at Buffalo, San Francisco, Seattle and Miami, this does leave open the 4 of 32 possibility that we will have a European road trip next year (hopefully Germany during Oktoberfest), without having to surrender a home game.

Still say this is the stupidest idea ever.

I'll be in London or Germany for the game, don't care which but if it's in the UK then the UKRavens can host you guys this time.

EDIT - If it's a Ravens road game, I'd expect if it's in London (my unfailing optimism says it will be) then I'd expect something like Dolphins vs Cowboys (who they host next year) seeing as they both have big followings in the UK by the standards of other teams.

no chance in hell they let New Orleans lose a home game. None.

Maybe not next year, but eventually they will. All teams will play 2 games outside of the US every 16 years, 1 will be as "visitor" & the other as "home". The agreement was all teams will follow this schedule.

I agree with Losac, very stupid & I hate it.

To each his own, Losac. There are thousands of Ravens fans who travel long distances to attend Ravens away games, many of whom would love an excuse to mix travelling to Europe with a Ravens game. If the Ravens play an away game in Europe in 2007, the only fans affected would be those who travel to away games.

I would think our chances of being one of the "visiting" teams might be good, with four of our 2007 road opponents making the short list. (I personally hope that it would be Buffalo, since I plan to do all West Coast games next season, but don't care about Niagara Falls). Since Western Europe is only an hour further than the West Coast, our team would not be impacted by the travel, although any of our three West Coast opponents would face extended trips.

Also: if the Ravens are selected as a visiting team for next years' games, there should be a good argument for delaying the Ravens once-in-16 years "home" team appearance for many years.

If so: why did New Orleans make the short list? The Saints may have sold out every game this season, but it's soft support.

How many Ravens fans do you think are going to be able to afford the very expensive trips to Europe or be able to take off work for that long? You're talking maybe a few hundred fans who would have the means to make this trip, and probably all of them are the die hards on this board.

And this crap about "home" and "away" teams is ridiculous. How exactly would a Ravens game in Europe be a "home" game for us? Will all of the European fans be making noise while our D is on the field?

I suspect he was referring to the fact that with New Orleans still needing as much economic help as possible to assist in the recovery from Katrina, including the revenue that home games generate, it would seem heartless (and stupid) for the NFL to give the Saints a "home game" in Europe.

And what exactly was "soft" about their support?

FWIW, I've gotta guess that our first game will be in London. Inevitably, some public relations suit will pick up on the whole Ravens in the Tower of London thing.

I wouldn't mind flying over to Jolly Old England for a week of Ravens Madness!

I think you are overestimating the cost of travel to Europe, and underestimating the road trip support by Ravens fans. Although Southwest and Air Tran don't fly across the Atlantic, Autumn trans-Atlantic fares are often reasonably priced, within reach of many fans, who already cough up $100-$300 per home game ticket.

As to hundreds vs. thousands: I'd think that, depending on the time of year, thousands would be more likely. Somwhat comparable to San Diego a few years ago, where we had at least 1,000, and New Orleans this year, where, despite expensive limited hotels, we had many thousands who made the trip.

And what exactly was "soft" about their support?

- unsold suites and club seats
- many of the tickets are $15 - $25, that will go unfilled when prices are raised
- I believe the post-Katrina mood is a unique phenomenon

You can do it in a long weekend. Trust me.

If you book early enough, round trip air fare to London, combined with accommodation costs and money to go out drinking, would not vary that wildly than attending an away game in San Francisco, which I plan on doing next year. It's about two hours longer plane ride each way, but that's about it.

I would hope it to be an away game though. It would suck to lose a home game in Baltimore.

I will surely raise a few pints in London for the Ravens. That would be a fun trip. As long as we are the "road" team of course.

Still say this is the stupidest idea ever.RACK IT!

The NFL is ruining everything it gets its hands on. Chit...they can't even figure out that the Thursday night game format -- along with the shitass broadcasting of the games on NFL N -- SUCKS! I heard the Denver owner say: "I don't care if teams like the Thursday night games or not. We're going to keep them whether teams like it or not". The FUCK?!

GO RAVENS!!! (41-0 when +2 in turnovers)

Is the Seattle game home or away? My brother lives there and I saw a pre-season Seahawk game at the new stadium. That place is a great stadium. If we are away I want to make it a road trip.

Seattle and San fran are both away. We hosted Seattle last time (greatest comeback in franchise history) and we also hosted San Fran, Ray got an INT return for a TD off of a pass from Garcia that TO stopped about five yards short and Ray was uncontested.

Your right UK. Well with a daughter in SF and a brother who has season tickets to the Seahawks maybe I'll make a trip or two west. Bert you in.

Count me in, too, Bez. Wife's family in Seattle will get us tickets. Right now, despite my annual resolution to cut back road-trippin', it looks like we'll be doing Seattle, SF, SD, maybe Miami, and possibly London or Germany. Only impediment I have is a daughter getting married in mid-September.

I wonder what the credit card companies will do to me if I bust all the ceilings?

It was the priest's fault. She did ask me, prior to finalizing, if I would have a problem with missing a Navy or Terps game, or impacting a Ravens road trip with a Saturday wedding.

If this report (http://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/817615/detail.html) is correct, the Ravens will play all 16 regular season games in the US next season:

The Sports Xchange has learned that Miami will be the "home" team during the 2007 season for a game likely to be played in London's Wembley Stadium. That famous stadium has undergone a renovation and will seat 90,000 fans for the game. Wembley was the site of nine international preseason games from 1983-1993. The other option is 83,000-seat Twickenham Stadium.

The Dolphins' opponent will be either the New York Giants or Buffalo Bills, but sources told The Sports Xchange the league is leaning toward having the Giants be the other team in the game. The official announcement naming London as the site is expected early next week, while the announcement of the two teams is planned for Super Bowl week in Miami.

Either Bills-Phish or Giants-Phish would be fine by me, gives me the opportunity to yell against the Phish! :D

I don't care who it is, I'm there. I'd expect them to lean towards the Phish-Giants game as I wouldn't expect them to take a home divisional game away from a team as they are not only key for income but for their season success as well.

I'm in for the West Coast stuff automatically...I'll probably stay with my main man MikeK up in Oregon for the Seagulls game and the San Fran game might be a road trip with the Ravens fans who live in my area (SoCal)...
