Rob Long on WNST has been saying the same on the air for the last hour or so.
I think they may actually do this. I would much rather see this than an old Baltimore Colts player flip the coin. I want this game to be about the Ravens and Baltimore. Cal is all Baltimore, so I think it fits very well.

Good call. That would be great. I also heard a caller on NST suggest Cal and Sandy Unitas. That would be cool too.

Yup, R-O-B-L-O-N-G was pimping the idea today. I'm all for it. Imagine the 12th man effect...Ray does his thing and then Cal is announced as one of the two 2007 HOF inductees and flips the coin.
Do it Ravens. Get on the phone.

I agree that Cal should flip the coin, but wouldn't it be a slap to Irsay if we had somebody like Bruce Laird of Tom Matte, or both?? These guys live and breathe BALTIMORE football, Tom Matte strongly dislikes the Indy Colts, plus the announcers can play on it....Just a thought...

I agree! But, it would be nice to have Baltimore sports legends like Brooks Robinson and Lenny Moore to flip the coin for Saturday's game. After all, Baltimore is a sports town.

PLEASE....I am so jaded on Oriole CRAP I could care less....I wish I could care, but I would be lying if I said I do...After the strike in 94 and Peter Angelos, I hate MLB and the Orioles!! I think Artie Donovan ought to toss the coin. Or how's about Art Modell!:D

We should have jeffrey maier be honorary captain...if you REALLY want to get the crowd riled up on old O's memories...have him roll in in a Mayflower.
The head official will flip the coin, these guys can be honorary captains. The Irsays might have a beef if a Baltimore sports legend flipped the coin.

I thought I heard on BAL last night that the Ravens would honor Cal in pre-game festivities.

If the AFC Championship game turns out to be in San Diego, it might be nice for both Cal and Tony Gwynn to be honorary captains.

I believe that the AFC Championship may well be held in Baltimore...;)

Thats a great idea. This has been quite the week for Baltimore sports fans. Cal Ripken in the Hall of Fame, and the Ravens in the playoffs against the COLTS. I can't wait for SATURDAY AFTERNOON, BEAT INDY!!!!

Rob Long is the man for coming up with that idea. Man I hope the Ravens are listening to that. The Iron Man would be a perfect way to start the game off with the coin flip.
Great idea ROB LONG

Great idea, but the Ravens don't have control of that. The NFL would have to approve that, not the Ravens.

According to Roch Kubatko (sp?) blog Cal will be handing the coin to the referee for the coin toss...

Talked to Aaron Wilson....Ripken will be the honorary game captain according to Ravens.
Not sure at this time about coin flip duties.

Roch confirms tonight that Cal is not allowed to flip only be the honorary captain. I like D Yaffe's suggestion in the PressBox today. Everytime Peyton steps to the line we flash stuff on the board: Irsay's face, the Mayflower trucks, Schaeffer crying at the expansion fiasco and so on.
