Terrible calls aside, he called way to conservative a game and let them hang around too long. Our defense was exhausted at the end of the game.

I would not say it was all his fault. I would and have questioned the lack of the Suggs Package!!

no way there were droped passes and over thrown balls, the play calling was fine the execution was not...period. You want to blame someone blame the players they did not do their job!

Agree with the OP, disagree that execution was the only issue. Run run pass sets you up for failure - we saw that for like 7 straight seasons. Our offensive strength was that things were mixed up - we didn't see that today. Way too many 1-2 yard runs from McClain because the D knew what was coming.

True. But there were some other factors too:
1) Flacco threw wide on an absolute no-doubt touchdown pass to Mason towards the back endzone corner. He waited too long and launched it too far left.
2) McGahee decided not to block at all on the key sack/fumble that took the Ravens out of FG range in the 4th quarter.
3) McGahee drops a 3rd down pass over the middle that would have converted. Instead we have to punt.
4) Willie Anderson, the confused one, couldn't stop false starting at the worst possible times.
5) When we went spread offense, the Steelers blitzed and no one went hot for Flacco to throw to.
We had some definate execution problems on offense today. Not to mention letting the Steelers march 92 yards downfield on us in their last drive. That was unacceptable.

I will make the same point here that I did on the other thread. We should have been more conservative on the last play! Think about this. It was 3rd and 8 on their 27. If we run the ball there, we stay in field goal range (would have made it 12-6) and they would have likely taken their 2nd time-out. We spread out the line and Willis decided not to block (not sure why he decided not to block since he decided not to catch the ball tonight).
This loss was not Cam's fault. There were MANY dropped passes. Willis missed 3 cut back lanes that could have been HUGE gains. Joe missed some open guys. The defense missed some tackles and slipped all over the place (Reed and Rolle) on the last drive. They made a few more plays than we did. They will be the number 1 seed on the AFC after they beat the Titans next week. We held our own, but we needed to make 1 one play and we didn't.

Harry O 29. Having been at the Game today. and having the Rotten Call on the TD by santonio HOLMES , right in front of me at the Stadium. You have to wonder "WHERE THESE REFS GET THEIR DIRECTION FROM?" The NFL or TV headqaurters.
Next week.. the Ravens Game in Dallas means a ton to both the Ravesn and the Boyz. The Boyz are currently handling ELI and the GIANTs 14-3 as i type.
I think Cam Cameron did not ATTACK enough tonite..and when he did. FLACCO's passes were HIGH..
I hate Big Ben. I hate HEINZ WARD.. I just HATE PITTSBURGH.:ref:

.. I agree. but Flacco must assume some of the BLAME.. Cam did not over throw a wide open Mason in the endzone after he had beaten # 43 with the flowing hair.. a PRO qb must complete that pass.. if you want to win.:ref:

After getting home from the game I couldn't wait to see replays of the touchdown by the Steelers. Watching the replays from NFL.com showed that the ball never crossed the plane of the goal line. There was one shot shown on CBS that was from a 45 degree angle that made it look like the right call was made, but after seeing it on NFL.com over and over the ball never crossed the plane.
The ref said the receiver had both feet down and controled the ball, but that doesn't make it a touchdown if the ball doesn't make it into the end zone. The league issued a statement saying the call was based on Rule 32, sections A-E. The problem is there is no Rule 32 that describes the criteria of what constitutes a touchdown. The league once again tells us that we didn't see what we saw. Fuck them! Though I wouldn't want to soil my dick with such an endevor.

:iagree:
I have watched that call over and over again. This is just pathetic and the things the officials see under that booth must be something us fans dont see. The NFL once again does a number to ruin the game. I know bad calls happen in every game but the 3 they fucked up this game is just uncalled for.(the delay of game no call, the no touchdown they gave them and the spot on the first down that would have made it 4th down)
I'm so pissed and i STILL fucking hate Hines Ward.

I saw Peter Schmuck tonight after the game at Bill Bateman's in Severna Park, and he said they had a conference call with the league in New York after the game...He didn't actually tell me that they admitted to making the wrong call on the touchdown by the Steelers, but he eluded that it was a bad call...But we should have never allowed them to march down field.....He also said that Ed Reed, Fabian Washington and Trevor Pryce were all injured in tonight's game:grbac:

I don't think the Reed and Pryce injuries are serious. Reed never missed a play and Pryce was back on the field after a few plays.

Any way you look at it... the defense played a good game. Ed Reed once again proved why he is among the greatest. Fabian Washington was on point, just as he's been for the entire second half of this season (great use of a 4th round pick). Samari had a few gaffs that cost us, especially on the last drive. But either way, the D played well enough to win. They always do, and they did again tonight.
Fact is, Joe just didn't step up and make the plays necessary to win this game. He had the time and the opportunities, he just didn't make it happen. And that's OK. He's still learning. He's far ahead of what we could have ever hoped for.
All that said, we still control our own playoff destiny. Win the next 2 games and we're in. Hell, we might even see Shitsburgh again for some payback. All in all, I'm proud of this team. We've caught some bad breaks this year, and we still have a good shot at post season play. Our rookie QB is a stud. Our veteran D is superbowl worthy. What more can we really ask for?
Beat the Cowgirls next week. That's all there is.

Washington pulled his hamstring.
I don't think we can blame Cam for this one guys. We had so many opportunities to finish and we just couldn't execute. I do however think we should have ran the ball a little less and tried to get a little more creative but its over now..... bring on the Cowboys!

ITA with the highlighted text. For the life of me I couldn't understand why we kept doing this. Mix it up and pass on 1st or 2nd down. I really like Cam, so I don't want to bash him for one game. But conservative play calling and lack of execution REALLY hurt us yesterday.

I have to say for the most part mcgahee, this guy is paid to be a feature running back, the bigger the game the smaller he comes up. he had a chance to make a couple plays out there and as per usual he not only didn't make a play he shot the Ravens in the foot. The Ravens were a man down and needed the "feature running back" to step up, the Ravens got absolutely nothing out of this first class loser to a lesser extent I'd say Flacco, if he completes one of those endzone throws the Ravens walk out with a victory.

Hi kids. Transplanted Pittsburgher here and before you folks get the hair up on the back of your necks, you will never ever hear smack from this Steeler fan. I started following the Steelers back in the '60s (there's my age) and save for the Neil O'Donnell debacle in SB XXX, have considered it fortunate to attend and be present for all the Championship games. Growing up in Pittsburgh it's hard not to be a Steeler fan. I have been to horrendous games over the years remember Chuck Nolls first year as HC the Steelers were 1-13 :(
The Ravens are a great team and this year the Ravens and Steelers are like mirror images of each other fitting for the AFCN. I hope the Ravens get a playoff seed (hopefull not against the Steelers) and represent the AFCN through the AFCCS. The rest of the league will truly know the road to the Championship will have to go through the AFCN.
I must say save for a few bone heads, the Ravens fans at the M&T are good natured. I no longer drink excessively :happyanim and typically have good conversation with the Ravens fans around me about the game.
"The Call". IMHO I don't think Holmes pulled the ball across the goal line. I always thought just the tip of the ball needs to "break the plane" for 6 points. To my tired myopic eyes, didn't look like it to me but this wouldn't be the first game refs made a bad call and effected the outcome. Last year the Steelers got jobbed vs the Jags in the playoffs over blatant multiple holding violations and not one bleepin hanky to be found. The Jags ultimately converted and the rest is history. I hate that.
Everybody likes to see their team win. I reminded one of my stadium friends the Steelers have not won at M&T since 2002 and Kordell Stewart: embarassed: was the QB!
Some of my close Raven fan friends that I tailgate with have mixed feelings about the Dallas game. I think the Ravens will rip them a new one for good reason. The Steelers D smothered the Cowboys running game and so will the Ravens. The Ravens have an outside attack that will either hurry Romo to throw and/ or cause turnovers. I think Ed Reed in typical fashion will return a minimum of at least one turnover for 6. Tony Romos Decembers have not been his best football either.
On offense the Ravens simply should protect the football. I was impressed with Le'Ron McClain yesterday and if the Ravens possess the football and are consistent converting for 1st downs, they could beat Dallas by two scores easily. Forget all that baloney about the Cowboys last game in Texas Stadium. Oh and TO? Best player any opponent ever had.
Best of luck with the remainder of the schedule and some great football to be seen between the Ravens and Steelers.
I stopped disliking the Bengals that team is on the ropes. Marvin Lewis was part of both the Steeler and Raven organizations and we all agree he is a classy guy, good coach and doesn't deserve that trainwreck.
Cleveland? I will always detest the Cleve Brownie fans! There will always be oafs that do strange things when intoxicated but the Brownie fans have to be the worst. I could tell stories from trips as a young lad to Cleve. Municipal Stadium (the Mistake by the Lake) back in the '70's that would guarantee arrest and imprisonment by todays standards of behavior in the stadiums. Those Cleve. fans are certifiable inbreds and those of you that have been there know exactly what I am talking about.
C'mon over to the Steeler Nation board and you'll find that positive posters from opposing teams are welcome. The administrators like here keep an eye on things. We get our share of flamers but football fans are the same everywhere IMHO.

I feel strongly that Cameron had a poor game plan and played scared all day. I felt like Billick was calling this game w/ his "play not to lose" mentality.
I don't put this game on the defense regardless of the last drive. If you said we would allow only 13 pts to the Steelers you would count it as a win...every time...especially at home.
This game plan played right into to teeth of the Steelers def. It was predictable and never allowed Flacco to get into any rhythm.
Any time you score only 9 pts and fail in every trip to the redzone the blame has to go on the offense.

The Ravens control their playoff destiny with 2 games to go? Who woulda thunk it,huh? Obviously, the result last night was a bitter disappointment, but keep in mind that a rookie QB went up against a very very good defense twice and came up a total of 7 points short. Joe will learn from this and improve his performance.

We lost because;
1. The D cant stop a last minute drive. I dont care if you are up by 8 or 1 if we are winning 45-37 or winning 3-2 and it doesnt matter if the D was on the field for 45 minutes or 5 minutes. When you are winning with only a few minutes left and they have a long field the D must do there job. So under that line of thinking #1 reason we lost the game is because the D couldnt finish their job.
2. Next reason is we didnt score when we "should have scored." Not that we didnt score a lot of points but when we were close we settled instead of finishing (getting 7.) I put that on the players more then the coach.
3. Last the Ref's really sucked. The Ravens lost this game, the ref's didnt, but the ref's did get two very important calls %100 wrong. I could live with it if they would admit they were wrong but what pisses me off is they claim they were correct when they reviewed it... Maybe i just dont understand incontrovertible evidence ???

I know this is NOT going to be the most popular answer, but.....
Could it be that the Steelers defense just outplayed our offense? Could it be that Dick Lebeau outcoached Cam Cameron?
Gotta give credit where credit is due, even if we do hate the Steelers.

Could be. But it wasnt, not this game. In a close game like this, Both teams were put in a position to win. We didnt execute they did. The coach doesnt play the game.

I just want Flacco to work on his accuracy, touch and decision making in the off season. The kid had protection and great field position all day and couldn't take advantage of it, and that's a shame.
With points at a premium as they were all game, there's no way he can take that sack on third down in field goal range, missed block or not. Why did he refuse to use his feet like normal? Who knows, but it is what it is.
I'm happy with our season and wouldn't change a thing, but I'm really disappointed that with the division up for grabs at home our offense comes out and conjures up memories of our impotent offensive past.
I guess we know now that Matt Ryan wins the Rookie of the Year hands down as a result of this.
