From the Sun "Offense Must Be Patient" article, linked on the front page:
"No teams have contacted the Ravens about interviewing defensive coordinator Rex Ryan to fill their head coaching positions."
Leaving open only the possibility of New York, unless I'm missing something. Last time OAK had a vacancy they waited ages to fill it, but I just don't see Rex going there even if they *do* end up asking him.

Maybe a little something to worry about but the Raiders could promote Rob Ryan to Head coach and who do you think he would want to hire as defensive coordinator? While its not often that a person switches jobs in the NFL without moving in the ranks, im pretty sure working with his brother would be a little too enticing for us to keep him.

After seeing BB fire Fassel this year, and the pained remarks each had to make afterward, I am inclined to think working for my brother (or having him work for me) at that level is the *last* thing I would want. And I mean that in all seriousness, there is just too much at stake to throw blood into that relationship.
Plus I hope for his sake Rex has the sense not to go to a place with owner/FO problems like the Raiders. He'll get his shot at a better-run organization than that.

Coughlin is back next year in NY, so I do believe that Mr. Ryan will be here in B-More for at least another year (knock on wood:hammer: ).

Phew, I'd missed that.
Weird about Coughlin. Put him on the list with Matt Millen: People who must have pictures of their bosses in bed with a goat.

Gotta disagree there.
Coughlin, despite having serious issues, has made the playoffs 2 years in a row. Granted, it wasn't exactly inspiring.
But Millen is in a different stratosphere than any other NFL GM/Coach.
24-72 in six years as the Lions GM. It's simply amazing that he's still employeed in Detroit.

Hm. It's a different thread, but it sure looked most of this year like he and the team were on different pages.
You are probably right, PP, they don't really belong on the same list. Still after the last couple of years it's hard to see the Giants succeeding with Coughlin. They have question marks at every position except TE, and it sure doesn't appear from the outside to be a tightly run team. Did you see Shockey lift Coughlin's headphone so he could squawk in Coughlin's ear? Anyway that's a different thread.

Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but don't the Ravens refuse other teams permission to talk to our coaches who are under contract if it's for the same or lesser position?
In other words, they won't let Rex go to be the Defensive Coordinator anywhwere else, he'd have to be a head coach (or maybe even one of those silly-ass "Assistant Head Coach" positions.)
If someone could clarify this, I'd be quite interested to learn how it works.
Edit: Totally agree about mixing realives and work. I hang with my bro a good deal, but if one of us was the other's boss???
It would end badly, for sure!

This is great news. Rex's time will come, so I don't feel bad for him, I'm just glad we get at least another year of his straight up nasty blitz schemes.
Also- is Fassel in the running for any jobs?

According to reports the bigger concern is that Rob would name him Associate Head Coach which would be a promotion for Rex and something that we can not block.

Yeah, because we couldn't just promote Rex ourselves to Assistant head Coach to block such a move. :eyes:
Rex is not leaving here unless it is for a head coaching job.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Rex Ryan will be a HC some year, hopefully not next year!
Hopefully he learned the lesson this year about working with close friends and family. Besides, Oakland is a disaster, even though his brother has that defense playing wonderfully. You can be sure that freedom to do what he wants won't be there in terms of creating all his own schemes and things of that nature.

Personally, I am more concerned with losing Eric Decosta than Rex Ryan, but I'd rather us keep both.

I have read numerous articles about HC candidates, and surprisingly, Rex has not been mentioned in any of them. I think he'll be with us for at least one more year.
And I strongly agree with PP about Coughlin and Millen -- no comparison at all. Millen is in his own special category.
