This report comes from WNST's Casey Willit. Here is what he posted.
"Hey Casey from WNST here, I know Aaron is hard at work here, but just some FYI. Derrick Mason went off in the locker room and said he has been unappreciated all season long and that it is frustrated. Also sorta hinted that he may not be back, said "that is up to them if they want to make a change", refernced Brian in that comment.
AD said now is the time to start talking about a contract and when asked if he wanted to come back sorta just said that is up to them"

Mason can walk for all I care. Clayton has stpped it up and Williams will be a good WR. We could always sign another FA. We don't need a cancer.

Mason can walk, he's been ineffective for a lot of the season and is dipping badly, Demetrius, Clayton and Heap are the future and Mason is on the way down, he was important for us last year and early this year but he's venting his frustration at slipping on other people, and to be fair that's understandable. Didn't expect him to be back before this game and don't expect him to be back still now.

now that Mark Clayton is established as a #1 WR & Demetrius Williams is proven, I say let Mason go. hopefully that's just frustration over the loss.

I am not persuaded Demetrius Williams is running precise routes. He has good hands, and runs great with the ball, but it seems like a lot of picks happen in his neighborhood, compared to Mason's & Clayton's. It happened in this game, and it's happened in others.
I hope Mason calms down & wants to stay, assuming he can. Obviously if he can't calm down, the door shouldn't hit him in the. . .

That INT was nothing to do with Demetrius today, it was a slant, he ran it well and beat Harper with a nice cut. McNair threw it to his back shoulder rather than leading him away from Harper, bad throw, not on D-Will at all.

McNair poorly threw that pass to Demetrius. Had Steve hit Williams in stride, who knows what would have come of it? Steve threw the ball behind Demetrius, and seeing where the defender was, that INT was on Steve McNair and not Williams.
My take is this.
1. Mason cries and whines after every loss and after some wins about not getting the ball, but when we went to him during the Bills game, he could not do anything. If you are going to whine, at least show productivity when the ball comes your way.
2. I don't think the team will get rid of Mason just because he is whining. Mason is a drama queen and that comes with the territory. He'll be back.
3. I would draft another WR this year and groom him slowly to take over and after next season look to getting rid of Mason.
BRavor, what is the cap implication for cutting/trading Mason either after this season or after next?

Ok, thanks. I'm trying to remember the other game I saw it in, I think it was at Pittsburgh.
Clearly we need a qb for the future, even if we'd won the SB we still know that. I'm glad to hear UK you saw the same thing & it didn't bother you.
Also glad you didn't make the trip for this game. . .

Yeah very glad I didn't make the trip, I'm just totally numb. Won't be able to sleep for ages tonight I don't think, far too dissapointed to sleep.
Just even more depressing watching the Eagles-Saints game, saw more offense from the Saints in the first quarter than from us in four, really stinks. On that note, Reggie Bush has made some absoutely ridiculous plays in this one and has bounced back real well from taking a bone crunching hit from Sheldon Brown to open the game.

I think throwing Demetrius Williams under the bus right now is highly unfair. That kid has been dynamite for us this year. And as PR said, that ball was thrown behind him today. There was no way he could even fight for the ball without stopping his route altogether.
I don't even care about the rest of the playoffs right now I am so upset.

I'm not trying to throw him under the bus. Heaven knows I'm not blaming him. I am wondering aloud whether he is skilled enough to handle being a #2 receiver behind Mark Clayton, or whether we'd be better off with a drama queen Derrick Mason still as #1, followed by Clayton & Williams.
I made a specific point, about route running, others have apparently seen the same thing & disagreed with my assessment, which is comforting.
No question today's loss had nothing to do with him, please don't misunderstand.
McNair, *him* I'll throw under the bus.

a WR a Drama Queen???
I wouldn't mind dumping him, using his $alary to keep AD, and seeing if Devard Darling and CMoore can produce.

If Mason wants to leave, let him go. He's been a destructive crybaby several times before today anyway. I think we have the basis of a very good receiving corps without him.

Well, if we want to save cap money and are going to throw five yard routes on 3rd and 7, then I'm sure Kevin Johnson is available.

From Ravor's post a couple weeks ago:
Mason:
2007 cap number: $4.4M
Unaccounted for bonus shares that will accelerate: $4.2M
2007 cap savings if released/retires: $200K
Post-June 1st release:
2007 savings: $3M
2008 cap charge: $2.8M

And I agree: Fuck Mason. Not exactly like he's been wide open all season or anything.

Clarence Moore's ears just perked up at the thought of moving up to the 6th receiver spot.
Mason gave us one+ damn good year of football. Thanks for that.
If he wants out, a trade can be arranged easily enough.

Kind of odd that we ended up 13-3 and Mason is bitching, yet when we go 6-10 and he gets his catches, you don't hear much of anything.
Although, I understand the frustration. Billick fucked this game before it started.

If this is true then it's time to cut the conection. In order to win it has to be a team effort. I just hope Mason didn't really say this.

I understand Mason's frustration...he didn't even get a catch until the 2nd half!
But most of that is because Clayton and Heap are getting open more often. Mason draws the double teams over Clayton right now, should change next season. I say let him play one more year...

I would think about a Derrick Mason for Randy Moss trade. I don't how it would work or affect the cap, but I'd consider it.

The Ravens paid Mason allot of cake this season 8 million dollars. After the team had won the Pittsburgh game and he popped off about lack of use I thought it was bush league.
