Apparently, we aren't able to add depth without him feeling his job is in jeopardy. And his body is continually breaking down.
I like Rolle and he isn't really going about this in the wrong way IMHO, but if he wants to leave, let him go...and try and sign another CB like Bodden and let Bodden/Washington/Foxworth compete for the 2 starting spots.

Well, looks like the "report" from one of our local hacks about how the Ravens tried to trade Rolle...allegedly made it to Rolle, and he now feels "unwanted".
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/football/bal-preston0301,0,1767271.column
"Honestly, I don't want to play in Baltimore anymore because I feel I'm not wanted," said Rolle, who has started for the Ravens the past four seasons. "During the past two years the Ravens have wanted to replace me, and the only man in the building that supported me was Rex [Ryan, the former defensive coordinator
"I have nothing against the organization, nothing against ownership. I just feel it's time for me to move on. Never have I challenged this organization, but I think it's in both our best interest."
"I don't want to be in the same situation Chris was in last year. He was one of the top three cornerbacks in the league before the season started. He has a bad game against Indy, but nobody comes out and says a thing. Next thing you know, he's benched against Miami. Then we give up some passes against the Dolphins, and we throw Chris back on the field like it was his fault. I'm not interested in being in that position."
"If I have to come back, I will do everything they ask me to do," Rolle said. "I'll be the best player they want me to be, even on the scout team. What am I, the No. 4 or 5 corner now? I'll keep my head in the books and be ready to play. But again, my preference is to be released."
He has heard firsthand reports about the Ravens trying to trade him.
Wonder who that "first hand information",came from?Could it be the same guy who wrote the blog entry?
I swear to God I despise Preston and all the shit he stirs up......
FYI,Tony said the exact OPPOSITE of this entire article earlier today, that the Ravens wanted to keep Rolle.
Another thing, you will be the 3rd cornerback Samari and not the "4th or 5th" like you claim.Your 32 years old and most CB's at that age dont start anymore...deal with reality.
Also you are under contract for a very reasonable amount considering the CB market, and I doubt you are going anywhere. As far as the trade market for a 32 yr old corner who cant stay healthy for an entire year, its pretty much nonexistent.Thats why the original reports of them trying to deal him were laughable...for what a 7th rounder?

Im no fan of Preston but do you really think Rolle is basing his comments off what Preston wrote in his blog?

I wouldnt doubt it for a second.
It would be very easy to get Rolle going with a simple phone call from Preston, igniting the insecurities of a veteran whose time is winding down in the NFL.
Rolle:"They were trying to trade me?"
Preston:Yeah no doubt dog Im tellin you..
Rolle:"I knew it all along,I had some suspicion over the last couple years but never really knew for sure.
Preston:Look man if you want to do an interview and clear the air Ill give you a platform,no problem. You know we're boys right man I got you.

Eh, I don't think that's the deal here.
They want Rolle back at a much cheaper rate and he isn't going for it. He wants his release ASAP to get into the market before all the jobs dry up.

I do not forsee any other team throwing big money at Rolle. He should simply take the money offered by the Ravens, or hang it up. I think those are the only two options left at this point.

The thing is with the CB market Rolles "big salary" is relatively cheap right now.
Matter of fact, one year for 4.2 million is a steal in this market.
The money angle is totally overblown.
How much did we just give Foxworth again?
Preston is a master manipulator with a lot of these guys, acting like he is "their friend" when in reality he has his own agenda in mind.He is far smarter than a lot of people give him credit for,and something like this would be right up his alley.
I'll go with Tony's info over his 7 days a week and twice in Sunday,at leats we know he doesnt have any alterior motives in the back of his head.

The Ravens should release Samari Rolle, so he can land with another team. It is the decent thing to do at this point, given his starter status is in jeopardy.
His points in the Sun article are well taken. The Ravens can use the additional cap room. Samari, like all older veterans, are getting a taste of the cruel side of the NFL, which is, most older veterans are released at some point or asked to take a pay cut. Football players have a hard time of accepting that as they age, their skills decrease. Ray Lewis is having the same problem. These guys think they should be paid more as they age, when in fact, they should receive less.

Rolle will not get a big pay day in the free agent market, let him go so he can taste reality!

What is one more new position to fill on defense ? It seem's like 2009 is going to be a new makeover for our defense. I hope all 11 players get on the same page quickly.
Can Rolle lower himself to play nickelback?

Great, now Samari doesn't want to play here either?
You know what, bye dude. Get the fuck off my team then. Maybe the Jets will overpay for you or something. They seem to be trying to take all our players.

Samari said Chris was his best friend on the team? Yikes. Hey Samari - you and your best buddy can join the unemployment line together...

Yea good luck Samari, it's been good. I'm sure teams are going to jump all over you like they did Chris especially now that you've blasted your team in the media.

Samari can't stay on as a nickel, he's gettin older and the side to side moving that nickelbacks have to do is gonna mess with his joints. I think if we were to get Bodden, there would be a good competition for the starting spot opposite Fabian. I'm not particularly sold on Washington tho, he doesn't tackle well in the open field, not physical like McAlister was. Plus, Landry coming back, who knows how well he'll play? I dunno, just wanna get the free agency and draft done and see our team on the practice field, too many question marks...

Samari can't play corner, someone put together a highlight video (smouch.net/lol/) on youtube and it makes him look pathetic....

I don't think the Rolle issue is going to clear up until the draft.
FO made their move, asked for a pay cut, and Samari is reacting as expected.
We don't let him go, because we may need a proven corner in reserve.
We don't lock him down, because he rejects the pay cut.
Right now the draft board slotting is pretty much set with maybe a tweak here and there, but until we are on the clock we don't know how the chips are falling and actually fell (every year there is usually a surprise, a trade, an overreach...)
So I can see Rolle a Raven at least until the draft is over. To project more than that is guesswork... if our 1st round is a CB he is probably gone, if we get one or 2 later rounds, also gone. If we don't take one, he is in our plans and may survive a pay cut depending on who gets released elsewhere.
We have entered the time where all teams have the smoke and mirrors for their draft intentions. Resolving Rolle's issue at present will get rid of some of that gamesmanship, so it appears that Rolle's issue will be hanging for a little while yet.

Not really. We've lost CMAC, who didn't play much at all last year, might lose Rolle and lost Scott (I'm not counting Leonhard due to Landry's hopeful return).
We still have retained starters in Pryce, Ngata, Bannan, JJ, Suggs, (Ray will be back), Fabian, Reed, and Landry is coming back. Add that to Gregg coming back from IR, and the signing of Foxworth and we really haven't lost too much.
Furthermore, Dwan Edwards will be back to add depth to the line, we have FOUR good young LBers to help fill the Scott hole (and if by chance Ray retires or doesn't sign) in Barnes, McClain, Burgess and Gooden, and the draft will help fill out the remaining issues (don't forget we have offensive players as well).
We will be fine.
