They cut St. Pierre and Olson, Johnson and Haley, but kept Ross and Daniels, only 3 Safeties and 7 CBs (CMac, Rolle, Ivy, Pittman, Martin, Olgesby and Prude)

The roster from the team's site:

Is that depth chart right? Demetrius is the 5th WR?

2 QB's behind this line???? That one is a shocker. But in Ozzie and Billicks mind the line is fine so it makes perfect sense.

2 QBs is fine. In the event that both our QBs get hurt, we can sign someone off the street that would give us the same production (or lack thereof) that St. Pierre or Olson would have given us.

So we can just sign someone off the street, have them learn the system and play in what.....a week????You have to be joking. What happens if both Boller and McNair get hurt in a game,or one is unavailable to start, who's throwing the ball then?

If they both get hurt in the same game, we're basically screwed anyway.

I'm sure they expect to get either Olson or St. Pierre (if he is still eligible) onto the PS (with the understanding that if another team comes calling, the Ravens will add him to the 53-man roster instead).

I suspect they'll sign some other team's cut QB and release one of the special teams players.

I predict both Olson and St Pierre are Browns by the end of the day.

Solid Roster.
I think they are going to try to wait a week or so after other teams make thier claims off waivers and set thier practice squads and try to stash Ross and Martin on the PS, and resign St Pierre for the 53

I find it hard to believe we're going to go into the season with only three offensive tackles, 2 of which couldn't even crack the starting lineup over Zeus last year.

Secondly, I find it hard to believe that the three of them will make it through the entire season without missing any time.

If this is what they're thinking and is in fact their actual approach at this position, then we have a serious problem!!

They had better start looking at the 3rd QB spot now!!

Like I said, St. Pierre or Olson wouldn't be any better than said person off the street learning the system. We are screwed any way you look at it if McNair and Boller both get hurt. Both Olson and St. Pierre looked like crap against guys that are probably cut now. Cutting them both gives us the opportunity to keep a guy like Ross or Martin instead of exposing them to any team that wanted them.

Besides, it's not like these two are going to be getting alot of calls for jobs. Olson may, St. Pierre, probably not.

The only problem I have with the roster is lack of a backup at RT. I have no idea what the FO is doing here. From everything that we have read Terry can not play RT. What happens if Pashos gets hurt? I guess they are going to try to find someone out there in the cuts.

Think we'll have any interest in Omar Jacobs who was cut by Pittsburgh? I loved him at Bowling Green. Would be ideal as a #3 QB/project.

First of all don't get your panties in a bunch over the first 53. The first 53 is very rarely ever the same 53 as the 1st week or 2nd week. So I am not concerned yet. They will need to get another OL somewhere you would think.

I find it suprising that they kept 5 RBs. If PJ Daniels wasn't a draft pick then I think he would have been gone. They love Ross because of his speed and he can also be a returner. They most likely want him to replace BJ next year or by the end of the year. If we make a move, I would expect either Daniels to go or one of the CBs. We have a lot of CBs on the roster as well.

How come they didn't show a backup for Reed or Scott? Oh goody, Clarence is second team.. :eyes:

I agree with Kevin. I'm pretty sure they're looking for a veteran O-lineman to shore up our shaky line. Martin's spot may not be too secure if they find a good prospect.

In honor of NCAA starting today -

Not so fast sweetheart!

I can't see Martin getting cut before Evan Oglesby in the defensive backfield. Plus in an article here on 24x7 they say that Martin is likely to be taught how to play safety and be our 4th S.

One OT I would perhaps look at that was cut today would be Wayne Hunter out of Jax.

I really believe this is a strategic move by the RAVENS front office in what they did. The reason for that is come next Monday the rosters are set, and in order for a team to pick up a player, they are going to have to waive one. They did this with Harold Morrow a few years back so that they could get Josh Harris to their practice squad. I see them doing the same thing for Ross or Daniels or anyone else they really would like to keep.

I really think the RAVENS want to make sure Ross or Daniels or both can make it to their practice squad, and that's why they kept them over the two QBs, and other players that were released. They also might want to make sure someone else makes it to their practice squad such as Martin who was also drafted.

We could very well see one of the players we just released back on this team, assuming they clear waivers.

Sounds like it might be the case with St. Pierre.

The Ravens released third-string quarterback Brian St. Pierre along with undrafted rookie quarterback Drew Olson, although it might be a procedural move with St. Pierre who could likely be signed back if he clears waivers.

I think the QB move is only to last until after the first game. After that, Ogelsby will probably be cut for that 3rd QB. I would be interested in Omar Jacobs, but that is me.

I am happy that Cory Ross is on this team. He could be our Willie Parker.

Great Cuts! I was really hoping they'd cut St. Pierre and Olson while keeping Ross and Daniels. Oglesby was a surprising keeper, but like PurpleRulz said, he may not be around that long.

I'm not saying it was a bad move, but I admit I'm surprised that they cut both St. Pierre and Olson. I thought they'd kept St. Pierre on the roster and try to stash Olson on the PS. I'm a little surprised, but if they can pick up an serviceable offensive lineman because of this move, I'm all for it.

The way St. Pierre played this pre-season, I am thinking he'll clear waivers just fine.

Considering the depth we need in the secondary, it will be interesting how many of these guys still stay on by the first week or two.

Maybe Pittsburgh picks up St. Pierre via waivers, and then the Browns take Drew Olson.

We could then look to another young QB such as Omar Jacobs.

There were two cuts today that I found intresting. Reggie McNeil, the QB turned WR drafted by the Bengals, and Omar Jacobs who Luker has already mentioned.

Most people on the old board thought that Jacobs would have been a good second day draft pick and I hope the Ravens bring him in for a look-see.

I just like McNeil because the lad can flat out fly. 6'2 220# receivers with 4.3 speed don't come around all that often.

RavenScallywag

was Jacobs cut? We should bring him in!

I'm kind've sad Winborne was cut, do you think one of our 7 CBs play safety too?

I am glad that Derrick Martin made the cut. I think he'll prove to be a good CB in time.

Also, I think we need to make moves to bring a 3rd QB in and an extra OL. Our depth at C and G is now just two OL. The resulting roster moves I would make for these would be cutting Oglesby and Ross...though I want Ross on the P Sq.

I love the fact that they kept only 2 qb's. The other two show absolutely nothing during preseason. In fact, they plain out sucked. But, what I really liked was the fact that they kept Darling, Moore, and the rookie. And I like the running backs. Why would they keep any more OL players then what they minimally need. To tell you the truth, if they could keep less, it was probably given consideration. I'm sure they think they can pick up better talent from other teams.

I can't see the Ravens staying with just two (2) QB's. Think they are reviewing other teams to see if they can pick up another.

I believe that St. Pierre will be back after clearing waivers. There's no one else out there worth signing to teach the playbook. I don't think Olsen is NFL material, but he wind up back on the taxi squad.

I'd give Hensen a look in the offseason.
