Who would've thought he'd be killed by some creature other than a crocodile or snake? A sting ray??!! There's only been three confirmed string ray deaths in Austrailia since 1900, INCLUDING him.

Very sad...my heart goes out to his wife and small children who will now grow up without a father...or at least him as a father.:(

He lived a dangerous life..we all do, but his was more than most.

Very strange way to die for him though. I guess it goes to show that when the Lord calls you home, you never know when or how. Life is so short and we never have a guarantee that the sun will rise for us the next day. It can happen in the blink of an eye.

Crikey! I just read that on Google News. Unbelievable. Very sad for his wife, kids and family.

I'm very sorry to hear about this.

He and his family appeared on a Wiggles DVD recently, and my daughter just loved the guy. He was very entertaining and educational, which is often hard to pull off. My heart goes out to his family with best wishes from mine.

I know this has nothing to do with the Ravens, but I thought I'd post it anyway......Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter was killed from a sting to the heart by a Stingray while filming a documentary...He is survived by his wife and two young boys:(

I posted this in OT...it's just unreal. In Austrailia, there's been only 3 confirmed deaths due to a stringray since 1900!!!!

I've enjoyed watching his shows for years, and have been amazed how he hardly ever gets hurt.

RIP Croc Hunter. You were truely one of a kind!

Pretty ironic that someone who wrestles crocs for a living, chases poisonous deadly snakes down, and mostly does all of this in the bush gets killed in the ocean by a stingray.I read late last night that his cameraman got too close and that is what spooked the stingray, this is very sad indeed.

It is sad that he has passed on, but it did not surprise me. The things Irwin engaged in, I was surprised he lived as long as he did.

Life is full of risks. For Irwin, it was facing and wrestling dangerous crocodiles. For me, it is driving to and from work.

My heart goes out to the family Irwin left behind.

It's certainly a surreal moment. I read about it at 2:30 this morning, and at first I thought it was just a rumored report, or one of his camera crew got hit. Tonight we put on our Wiggles Safari DVD for our son and just couldn't believe he was dead.

RIP Steve. You will be missed by us all. And our thoughts go out to Terri, Bindi, Bob, and the rest of his family.

For anyone interested, they are running a marathon of his best moments on Animal Planet right now.

The Australian government has offered his family a state funeral.

I'm watching him on an old Larry King episode right now. What a great personality. This has put a dark cloud over my whole day. He'll be mised by so many people.

Getty Images has a lot of photos. It's almost Diana-esque.

I hope this link (http://editorial.gettyimages.com/source/search/FrameSet.aspx?s=EventImagesSearchState%7c0%7c1%7c0%7c28%7c0%7c0%7c0%7c1%7c0%7c0%7c0%7c71777824%7c0%7c0%7c0%7c0%7c0%7c%7c%7c0%7c0%7c0%7c0%7c0&p=7&tag=1) works.

His death is on film, and it might wind up being broadcast: http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/crocodile%20hunter%20death%20to%20be%20broadcast_1007314

Irwin once insisted, "My number one rule is to keep that camera rolling. Even if it's shaky or slightly out of focus, I don't give a rip. "Even if a big old alligator is chewing me up I want to go down and go, 'Crikey!' just before I die. That would be the ultimate for me." An insider tells British newspaper the Daily Star, "This is exactly what Steve would have wanted. He knew the dangers and was totally up for the cameras to get everything."
Amusing as that quote may be, I think the footage should not be aired. The idea of pandering to the public's prurient interest by broadcasting a death like this sickens me.
