Unbelievable timing by Merriman according to Fouts. What a sorry homer this guy is.

Did you see the blatent holding by Vincent Jackson? These refs are slowly but surely getting worse and worse.

Sephy
09-20-2009, 06:00 PM
1st, insane amount of holding, no call, pass defended by Landry on Gates.
2nd, screen to Sproles for about 8.
3rd and 1.5, Rivers sneaks, I don't think he got it. Chargers OLman hurt. Got it by an inch. Favorable spot. Fuck me.

That's a easy penatly to call, but not these refs.

1st, complete to Gates, absolutely no one on him, out at the 10.

Washington has NO FUCKING CLUE OUT THERE.

Dade

Every spot is favorable for SD. Can't really complain when the D can't stop them.

Lee Van Cleef

That was nice seeing Foxworth and Jackson playing a tickling game. It's not such a rough sport after all.

Sephy
09-20-2009, 06:04 PM
1st, delay.
1st and 15, from the 15, good pressure rushing 3, Rivers takes off, gets about 3.
2nd and 12, Rivers throws out the back of the endzone.
3rd and 12, Sproles on the screen mauled by Dwan. Fabian slow to get up.

Dade
09-20-2009, 06:04 PM
Washington is hurt. Ozzie should be on the phone with CMac in the morning.

Sephy
09-20-2009, 06:05 PM
I think Mattison has gone gun shy with the blitz after seeing how Landry and the CBs are getting abused. Unfortunately thats a recipe for failure against Rivers too.

Sephy
09-20-2009, 06:06 PM
Ravens need a physical CB, and yesterday. All that speed does nothing against big, solid route runners.

Kaeding on for the FG - 28-26 lead. It has been whittled down. Need the O to seriously go down and get a score here.

Dade
09-20-2009, 06:07 PM
Whoever has Neading on their fantasy team is loving this game.

Sephy
09-20-2009, 06:07 PM
Making this even more important:

Pittsburgh just went down by a FG with 15 seconds left. Win, and thats a huge edge in the division.

1st, PA, complete to Clayton to about midfield. nice gain!

Lee Van Cleef
09-20-2009, 06:10 PM
Doesn't mean anything if we can't get out there and play some Ravens football.

Very little of what I've seen today exemplifies "Play like a Raven."

TTRaven
09-20-2009, 06:12 PM
And Clayton drops the perfect throw from Flacco.

Sephy
09-20-2009, 06:12 PM
1st, Willis bounces right but is stopped for a 2 yard loss.
2nd and 12, Flacco goes for Clayton, he tips it up despite hitting his hands, and falls incomplete. How do you drop that??!
3rd and 12, dump to Rice who is tackled very effectively after only about 6.

Can't believe that Clayton drop.

Dade
09-20-2009, 06:12 PM
At least pittsburh lost.

COME ON D!!!!!

1st, no blitz, 4 man rush, great coverage by Foxworth to bat away the ball for Chambers. Really great.
2nd, Rivers gets pressured up the middle by Ngata, almost threw it right to Landry again.
3rd and 10, PICKED BY ANTWAN BARNES!!!!!!!!

May have been early contact, but I will take that shit.

1st, give to McGahee who goes left and loses a ton of yards. Only 2 I guess.
2nd and 12, from the 15, sacked at the 25. FUCkkkkkkk

RavenScallywag
09-20-2009, 06:18 PM
they are all over us in the run game...maybe passing ain't a bad idea...

sack...crap, we're about to give that gift away...

BArellano
09-20-2009, 06:18 PM
McGahee needs to realize that he's not Sproles of Chris Johnson. That lateral running doesn't work.

darb72
09-20-2009, 06:19 PM
And Now Flacco goes down. Sack by Castille and we're back to the 25.

Dade
09-20-2009, 06:19 PM
bad time for a sack. McGahee cant block both of them.

Sephy
09-20-2009, 06:20 PM
3rd and 21, probably will screen or something here.

3rd, just a draw to Rice. Gets a few.

Hauschka comes on - big kick here, makes it a TD necessary.
The try - from 33 is right down the pipe.

31-26 Ravens.

2nd and 10, from the 24, 52s left, blitz comes, complete to Nanee, gain of 9. TO Chargers with 41s left.

Sephy

Lee Van Cleef
09-20-2009, 06:35 PM
Our pass D is ugly bad.

But pulled the game out. Holy hell. What a play by Ray.

And no one ever speak ill of Frank Walker ever again.

RavenScallywag
09-20-2009, 06:36 PM
Frank Walker might not be a bad idea at starter...as long as he keeps the penalties down, he was GREAT against the physical receivers.

someone just needs to teach Foxworth and Washington to swat the ball while covering. Don't just let them take the huge play and tackle!

Ravens45
09-20-2009, 06:37 PM
Cue Nelly's "Hot In Here" theme song... Ray Lewis does it again. That has to be the play of the game.

And I definitely agree- our CB's are CRAP. No way should a-hole Rivers have a career game in passing yards. Washington looked lost the entire game, and Foxworth got twisted around all day. While I'm not sure if McAlister is the answer to bring him back, we definitely need a physical corner. Or at least Mattison better be all over his corner's this week in practice.

Flipping Birdie

RAY LEWIS>>>>>>>>>> any other MLB. But uh we need some better pass coverage or a taller CB. I'm not on the ledge ready to jump.. Yet.
If you look at it chargers have 5 Wrs over 6'0 + Gates. and All the Ravens DB are under 6'0 besides D. Landry... No doubt however that we need to improve our pass coverage.

pyite32; fuck you, you pessimistic douche. i keep reading your posts and quite frankly you should just shut the fuck up if your only gonna bitch.

I agree with pyite, while it's nice to bask in the win...Our D was beat bad by the Chiefs 2nd string QB and TORCHED by SD today. SD is a good team, but there were a TON of injuries that should've led to us being able to manage a decent showing. I could live with giving up 300 total yards to Chargers. but 450+??? No, this was BAD defense, with smart Ravens D sprinkled in when we really needed it.

Fabian Washington has looked lost at time since last season. I don't expect much upswing from that side - but fact is, Foxworth is solid, and has good cover skills, but he's just too small to cover a 6'5 receiver.

We need a physical CB, and bad. But the heroes of the past aren't exactly walking through that door. You guys clamoring for C-Mac are probably not going to be very happy.

Mattison has to figure out how to use their speed to the defense's advantage, and figure how to make the matchups work.

That's true, to some extent. Hell, had Rice not bobbled that little reverse pass we might have had 6 and not sweated the final 5 minutes.

To put a somewhat positive spin on things - there is NO FREAKING WAY another QB is going to put up 420 yards through the air again this season against the defense. Unless it is Peyton Manning, in which case I redact my statement. Even then, I think the CBs match up much better against timing route speed runners than the big WRs of the Chargers.

I don't know how to feel about it, today. All I know is they sucked ass today, but probably won't suck ass quite as bad in the future.

we're armchair fans...we love when this team wins, but we also come at it from the coach perspective.

Think about this...S.D. won it last min against the Raiders last week. We win it last minute against the Chargers this week. What does that say about us playing Raiders later this year? Especially when the Raiders D managed to shut down KC this week?

This is why we worry. The Ravens O has given up 700 yards in 2 WEEKS! This team once only gave up a little over 1000 yards in a SEASON!

You can be happy with this performance if you trust our offense to win shootouts like NO. But we are not that type of O, and it showed when they tried to close out the game and were stuffed over and over.

If you disagree, just say "I don't think there's anything wrong"...don't come out and try to smack down someone speaking their mind about their concerns. He's not doing it blindly or stupidly.

Lee Van Cleef
09-20-2009, 06:57 PM
I'm not going to say I told you so. But this game was indicative of the problems I've been talking about since the last game. I appreciate there was a matchup problem with their WRs, but you have to be able to cope with all aspects of the game.

Now that we've given up the yards everyone is so concerned about, as well as the points, I hope people will appreciate that this is something of an issue.

jonboy79
09-20-2009, 07:00 PM
This was a game, on the west coast, against a very good team that is a very bad matchup for the Ravens defense. We still went in, dictated the pace of the game and led the majority of the way. We faltered down the stretch and needed a super-human effort to close it out, but the Ravens did it.

I hope Samari is available week 6. This team needs to find a way to stop small fast RB's and Big Strong WR's.

Frank Walker gets a small apology from me. Heap appears to be making me eat my words happily. Keep going guys.

Obviously no one is happy about the performance aside from the win. But lets fact check a bit - they have given up about 650-700 yds in 2 weeks. Fine. Your 1000 yards a season stat is BS - they did that once, in RUSHING yards. That would mean opponents only had 63 YPG, total. A little bit of a stretch.

Do we need to get our shit together with the secondary and pass rush? Yep. But make sure your facts make sense.

PS: The transitive property of wins means absolutely freaking nothing. Shutting down KC doesn't really mean anything to us. When you say things like this it just makes you sound silly.

Did our secondary play today?
Has anybody seen Ed Reed?
Thank God our Offense is doing the damn thing.
If Rivers was avoiding Reed that much how wasn't the coverage better.

Is it just me or did Jackson bobble that TD and finally had possesion after he was out. Did Coach have a Red Flag or did Norv steal it before the game. another catch that was suspect on the last drive, I'm pretty sure the ground can not assist with the catch.

We have went against bigger receiver's the last two weeks so most of the bombs that were given up in this game was simple shielding by huge WR's. At least they were not wide open like McAlister used to get ate on the double moves. Our corners need a little (sorry to say this) Frank Walker fight when the ball is in the air. They are just not physical corners. To be continiued I guess. Good win against a scrappy team I say. The Chargers are a playoff team and we won on the road so I do not have any concerns as of yet. Teams are still figuring themselves out, just some have got it together faster than others. Do you think Tom Brady will play like this in Oct, Nov, and Dec? Can some other teams that are winning or losing right now right the ship and correct thier shortcomings in a given area? That remains to be seen, but I have faith in the coaching staff and the players on D. Also we are hanging 30+ on teams for two weeks in a row. I think this maybe a changing of the guard on this team anyway where the defense is good not great and the offense can score at will even on the better defensive teams. That is my hopes!

Well shit. They had it on in the restaraunt we were playing. So I heard the score but didn't see a lot of the game.

Exactly how did the defense let the Chargers score that many freaking points?

I'm going to watch the gamefilm tonight.

You will be disgusted by the pass defense.

Is it just me or did Jackson bobble that TD and finally had possesion after he was out. Did Coach have a Red Flag or did Norv steal it before the game. another catch that was suspect on the last drive, I'm pretty sure the ground can not assist with the catch.

I thought so too. Surprised it wasn't challenged.

Remember the call on the field was a TD. I thought the same at first, but there wasn't enough to overturn the call. Would have just wasted a TO.

I'll tell you what concerns me. Game four. Moss lining up opposite Foxworth.

Yes I'm worried about that too.

Stinger I'm envious of you... You get to watch the game objectively without emotion cause you know the outcome.

Game cliff-notes- sproles and vincent Jackson ass-raped our defense. But we made the play that mattered.

But by all means feel free not to read my posts, as I will be blocking you.

I don't mind differing opinions, but I won't stand for personal attacks.

I loved him when he was a Terp, so I can't hate him now. If he played for the Steelers however.... Glad we don't have to cross that bridge.

Merriman I respect and am kinda a fan of since his Terps days. Alot more classly than that ass clown of a QB.

Yeah, they were not that good tonight. HOWEVER, I also noticed that River's only real success in the air was deep. The Raven's didn't give up a ton of short to medium pass yards. But I agree Randy Moss might be a big problem for Foxworth/Washington. But the Patriots offensive line is not that solid this year. And so we might have enough pass rush to keep that in line. We'll see.

Ok, so here are my thoughts after watching through the game.

1) Kudos to Frank Walker tonight. We've all given him a LOT of shit this pre-season. But when Washington went down SD specifically picked on him with that throw to Naane, and Walker never gave up on it. He definately helped save the game tonight. So for this week, I tip my hat to him.

2) Despite what I said above, I am REALLY worried about our pass defense. 436 yards given up this week? 436 PASS YARDS??? Are you kidding me??? Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates had good days. Sproles did too, but that's not deep pass. Sproles is Sproles. All we could have hoped to do is contain his rushing, which we did.

3) Speaking of which, why are teams still trying to run on us?

4) Flacco was once again solid tonight. 65% passing, 2TD's, 1INT. Look, I knew he wasn't putting a triple up against the Chargers like he did KC. But I'll take 190 yards. He was mobile, and the offensive line did another solid job of protecting him.

5) I'm still going to remain worried about our receiving core and you guys are just going to have to stay mad at me. 1 catch (and 1 drop) for Todd Heap. 1 catch for all-pro Mark Clayton. 3 catches for 31 yards for Derrick Mason. 0 catches for Demetrius Williams, who I can't even remember if he was in the game anywhere.

Let me put it this way. All three of our running backs registered more catches than our number 2 receiver. And once again Ray Rice led the team in catches and had more yards than our number 2 receiver. I'm sorry, this is still a concern for me.

That said, big tip of the cap to Kelley Washington. It's been a pretty nice surprise for our team. That touchdown where Flacco fake-draw-fake-to-clayton and Washington was wide open was great. And when needed, Washington got the yards to move the chains.

6) Our running game. DAYIM!!!!!! Willis came up big today. And I don't how Ray Rice only had 36 yards because it seemed like he had more. Can we get this kid a touchdown please?? Serious, can we just gift him one? Because he's earned it. And so much for McClain being the feature fullback this year. They still like to give him the ball.

7) Can we leave Hauschka alone for at least this week now? :)

8) Ray Lewis. 10 tackles, 2 assists, 1 forced fumble, and helped force the interception in the second half. Nothing more needs to be said.

10) Fuck you bad officiating. There were some horrible calls tonight, and bad spots. :ref:

Yes I'm worried about that too.

SD is a much better all around team we playede on the west coast...

We should shred the Pats defense.... They are incredibly weak right up the middle.
