One thing I noticed was that, like the first meeting, the bengals pass coverage seemed to overplay our routes most of the time. It was like the CB or safety was in the position our receiver should have been in. Jonathan Joseph's anticipation of Mason's signature comback route for example: he was in a great position to bust up the play most times. In fact we should have been able to execute a fake comeback/double move on him many times but didn't. They may have had safety help over the top but if that was the case Mason was doubled and someone else should have been the target.
Our need for a big play WR was exposed during this game. On the few times that Flacco went deep to our WR who had single coverage our WR's weren't able to win the "jump ball" contest. Clayton is not that great at it and either is Mason. Both do other things well but we need someone that can out position CB's for the ball using their body and win the matchup battle.
I thought the Bengals had a terrific defensive game plan and executed it well. I was dissapointed in our ability to make adjustments.
