Here's a couple of guys who could be available if there is a CBA in place before March
Pierre Garcon-WR-Colts- He's explosive and a pretty good route runner, could be a interesting option in the slot next year, Colts probably dont have the money to keep him
Miles Austin-WR-Cowboys- Less likely because we know Jerry Jones will spend, but could be a big plat threat for Flacco
Tyvon Branch-SS-Raiders- Former corner, fast and physical, little undersized but a very good player who'd be a vast upgrade over Landy

Garcon is in the first year of his 4 year rookie contract.
It will be interesting to see what Dallas does with Austin though.

Vincent Jackson will also be out there, but like Austin I don't see his current team not resigning him.
I could definitely see us picking up Garcon. He's another #3 receiver that isn't very exciting. The Colts already have his shoes filled with Austin Collie. Garcon is seeing a lot of time this year due to the injury of Gonzalez.

Vince Jackson is the biggest name WR that's gonna hit the market. He's also got the best chance of actually being on the open market...SD has a TON of free agents this year.
I think if we wind up with Vince Jackson I'd have a month-long orgasm...

I guess we won't be getting Garcon. I thought Collie was a rookie. Did the Colts take 2 wideouts in this past draft?

A Ravens receiver named Jackson rings a familiar bell. :D I agree...this would be great for us.

I'm still stunned Ty Law was farting into his sofa cushions for the first 7 games of the season and we passed on him.

I misspoke.
He's in the 2nd year of his rookie contract that he signed in 08.
Either way, he's locked up.

I'm sure he's a top priority for San Diego. You don't have a QB like Rivers and not give him anyone to throw to.

Really?
The one clip they showed him man to man in the slot he basically held the WR (Holmes or Ward I forget) the whole time.

Considering there will be no new CBA before the season, guys like Jackson won't even make it to UFA.
They'd have to have 6 years of NFL service time to qualify for UFA.

I dont recall him getting burned all that much .... well, burned as much as our corners get burned anyway.
Was he on Ward all game and did they split it up?

With a new CBA, the interesting WRs would be Jackson, Austin, Marshall, Malcolm Floyd, Lance Moore and Chris Henry.
All would be RFAs if there is no new CBA. Which begs the question, would you be willing to offer a huge contract and, depending on the RFA tender they receive from their present teams, a 1st (or 1st and 3rd) for any of them?
In some cases, I would say "yes". If there is no new CBA, I think the RFA market, by necessity, will be much more active than in the past.

Jackson has put himself in the elite category of WR's IMO.
I would seriously consider offering him a big deal and pony up the compensation to SD.
The WR situation for the Ravens going into this coming offseason will be very interesting to watch.

Even though he'd be a RFA in that scenario, they could conceivably Franchise him as well. That would mean 2 1st rounder as compensation. I think I'd have to pass at that point, but a 1st and a 3rd, I'd do for Jackson.

No doubt. I mentioned that possibility earlier.
I realize what you mean in that he's either gonna be franchised or a UFA at this point.
With this whole CBA thing up in the air, sometimes I forget what scenario I'm talking about.

The Cowboys might try to get cute with Miles Austin, offering the low-round tender. I think that's a 4th? round pick in compenation, if another team signs him? Same thing Ozzie did with Jason Brown a couple seasons ago.
If that happens, we should jump all over Austin. Throw a bunch of money at him for a 4- or 5-yr contract, and give Jerry the 4th-rd pick.

They gave him the 2nd round RFA tender last year, so I doubt they'll go lower than that. Most likely - given how well he's playing - he'll get at least the 1st round tender, and perhaps the highest tender (with 1st and 3rd round compensation).

We certainly need LOTS of help at WR, but we also could use improvement at ILB, maybe OLB, CB, maybe S, a pass rushing DE or OLB. Depth at OL could use some help.
We'll need good work in both FA and the draft . . . Too many holes and thin spots to cover in the draft alone.

Yeah but the point is that they're going to have to commit massive money to a few guys. They won't be able to keep all of them. The question is, who will they keep and who will they let go. Jackson seems likely as a keeper. But if they think the WRs they have coming up behind him are good, or the other FAs they have are more important, then it could change things.

I think there's almost no chance that happens. The Cowboys don't let skill players (that don't run their mouths) go lightly. And Austin is playing way better right now than Brown was when Ozzie hit him with a 4th round tender.

If they offer the 2nd-round tender, do you think the Ravens should jump? I think they should. Miles Austin would be a great get for a 2nd-rd pick.

If the Boys were foolish enough to only give him the 2nd round tender, I would think there would be a lot of team willing to throw money and a 2nd rounder around.
But, remember, the Cowboys always have the option of matching, so the other teams could spend a lot of time on negotiating a contract essentially for the Cowboys.
