Billick's extension is apparently only for one year (http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/football/bal-billick131,0,5331481.story?coll=bal-home-headlines).
I wonder if they just wanted to get some kind of extension in place before the offseason got underway, and this is a stopgap measure while they negotiate a more complex extension for more years.
Or whether it's just for one year.
All things considered I am very surprised at this report of it being a one year deal. I wonder if there won't be some longer term contract worked out during the next couple of months.
I don't mind saying, I hope so.

I remember an old coach, I'm thinking it was Tom Landry, but I'm not sure, that never signed a multi-year contract. Every year he would just sign up for one more year. Maybe that's what the Ravens and Billick are going to start doing, but for two years at a time instead of one. Personally, I like the idea since it lets both parties keep their options open.
There are no signing bonuses in coaching contracts since they are guaranteed contracts. This way you always have your coach for the next two years so there is continuity, and if there is a falling out, at least the organization isn't on the hook for longer than a year of guaranteed money.
Billick seems to have no problem with the situation and has repeatedly said that he loves it here!
I, personally, think it would be kind of cool if every year they just extend him another year. It reminds me of the old days and keeps everybody on their toes.

It also ensures that the Ravens will have a consecutive game streak with no offense for ten years!

Winning isn't good enough for you? Going to the playoffs, winning the Super Bowl once, winning the division twice? Exactly which hc out there has those accomplishments over 8 years as a HC? Bill Belicheck and ???

Well according to the Baltimore Sun (again), Billick's extension is beyond 2008 and "more substantial" than reported.
Don't whine about a link. Just go to baltimoresun.com and hit the sports link. If you are smart, you'll find the story. :D

Here (http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/football/bal-sp.billick02feb02,0,6488293.story?coll=bal-sports-football) is the link to the story PR mentioned.
A longer contract would also be consistent with Biscotti's remarks about wanting BB to be his coach for "15 years," and then he said the new contract was a "substantial step" or something toward that goal. That didn't sound like one year to me.
Glad to hear it, hope it's true.
