Ok, as upset as we all are over yesterday's loss, we are basically in the same position as last year with a different record. Last year, we went into week 17 tied for the final playoff spot and needed to win in order to keep the patriots out (Who went 11-5 but missed the playoffs). This year, We need to win in order to finish 9-7 and eliminate a whole slew of teams. Would I rather be 11-5, of course, but the fact is that we are in the exact same position as last year. Lets get it done.

An oversimplification, but not far off.
Big differences in that our secondary is decimated but our offense has more dimensions.
We do seem to be beating ourselves this year more than last year, for sure.

We played a much more favorable schedule last year too. The good teams beat us (Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Indy, and Giants) and we beat the rest. This year, we played more good teams.

The secondary was decimated last year too.
Fabian Wahsington and Frank Walker started in the palyoffs.

We are worse off now. Chris Carr and no Ed Reed. Yowza.

Actually, Rolle started through Tennessee, but then Walker had to start against Pittsburgh with similar results.
Yes it was an over simplification but for all intensive purposes, the situation is exactly the same. Only difference is we are on the road and not at home.

The other difference is expectations. this team has what it takes to win it all, except upstairs. Despite all these injuries, the team is still as talented and deep as any in football.
Last year we had the whole Rookie HC, Rookie QB thing too...

I don't want to assume we win next week, because I think I will just go hide in a cave if we do. However, if we do win, I agree with you JB that we could still win the SB. It feels like all the bounces have gone against us this year, so maybe that will start to turn. The key is, we have played everyone tight that is going to be in the playoffs (other than the jets). We are injured, but so is everyone else.
Do I expect us to be disciplined all of a sudden? No way, but I do think we play well enough to beat anyone. Hopefully we get to see if this team can pull it together for a playoff run, but lets get to that point first.
......thanks for catching the error. I have never been great with grammar....or words for that matter.

Better? or Worse yet? I think we OUTPLAYED the majority of the playoff temas we faced, then HANDED THE GAME OVER. The Ravens have LOST more of those 7 games then their opponents have won.
We Should win the Superbowl.
no problem on the grammar. My typing is horrible, so I'd hope you knew I wasn't trying to be a jerk, that's just one of those phrases I like to correct people, so that they don't take it for granted(granite) that they are speaking properly. I KNOW I mistype constantly.

Last year we needed to take care of the Jags week 17 or watch the Pats get that last spot.
There are obvious differences in the makeup of the roster, but last year we lost a lot of close games to good teams and beat down the bad ones. If we can get within 4 mins of the SB again, this time maybe we find a way to commit one less mistake and make one more play.
The overall number of injuries this year seems less, but mostly just because less guys are on IR. If we get Reed and Gaither back healthy, I like our chances against anyone.
Some guys you can replace. LT and FS are premier positions and you just do not replace that without a big drop off. Just in terms of the communication standpoint on the OL an secondary if nothing else.

I think JB and JW and I are all thinking alike. I really do think we still have the talent to play with the big boys and beat them as well. And actually, we have "Played like Ravens" in the overall looks of things. What I mean is, we have made dumb mistakes, stupid penalties, and blamed the refs consistently.
This team could very well still put it all together and win the whole thing. But its going to take 5 wins in a row...all on the road (And one neutral site) to do it. Lets just get through next Sunday and see who and if we get to play in week 18.
Also, JB, I don't think you are being an ass hole. I try pretty hard to make sure everything I type on here is understandable.

We can beat any good team in this league. Problem is, we haven't beaten any of them yet...

I agree. It was obvious that Cousins is not ready to start, and it probably cost us the Stealer game (aside from the officiating).

We beat San Diego.
And Denver. Say what you want about their collapse, but they are a good team and almost came back from down 17 to beat the Eagles in their house on Sunday.

Exactly. I hate the Steelers, but even so, if I was playing against them I wouldn't go and do a flagrant late hit or whatever they called the penalty he committed (I would make sure to him them as hard as I could when it was legal though :D ). Cousins is a jackass and a waste of space on the roster.
