Because we don't even have a chance and everybody and their mothers are picking the Patriots:cool: Almost every analyst, save Billick and Thiesman, on the boob tube and the radio is picking Mrs. Brady & the Patsies to eliminate us..:(
Might as well ask your Honey for her Sunday-honey-do-list tomorrow :261695:

I saw this and they both picked the Ravens with excitement! We may truly play a big role in the demise of Brady and the Pats. When they lose on Sunday, they return back to medicroty from this point forward....

Mike Silver and Jason Cole both picked Ravens emphatically on Yahoo sports. I'm not really perceiving a universal disrespect for the Ravens against the Pats in the media. Perhaps more analysts are picking the Pats, but it's not like 4 to 1 against or anything. And given the spread and variables, I think a lopsided but not overwhelming favor to the Pats is about right.

Good thing these are only opinions and not facts!
I don't get bent out of shape with the "expert" picks. I have seen all of them and it is about 65-35% Patriots to Ravens. Whatever! That's why they play the game.

One of the Pats bloggers broke down the stats in more detail than I have ever seen anyone do, and they look a lot better for the Ravens than even I thought (and I am predicting a 10 point win).
In particular some defensive notes, but every thing in there is pretty interesting.
"* - More Scoreboard: Over the last 4 games, the Patriots have not allowed a 3rd quarter point, but have given up 38 in the 4th, 2nd most in the league in that span…Baltimore has allowed a total of 6 second half points in their last 4 games. That’s not a typo. It’s a SIX."
"* - Who Says Baltimore’s Secondary Stinks?: Over the last 7 games, the Ravens have 13 interceptions and have allowed 7 touchdown passes. Yikes. Only the Jets (10 Int / 2 TD) and the Panthers (11 Int / 3 TD) have had better ratios during that span."
Some penalty stats he found are very troubling and suspect.
"* - Those Cheatin’ Ravens!: Baltimore led the NFL in penalty yards (1,094), yards per penalty (9.5), and 91% of penalties called on the Ravens were accepted, the 3rd highest percentage in the league. Conversely, the Ravens declined 25% of penalties called on their opponents this season, the highest decline rate in the NFL. The Ravens were penalized about 22 yards per game more than New England. Somewhat related: Only 9% (6 of 64) scoring drives by the Ravens have been aided by a penalty giving them a first down this season (lowest percentage in the league; Pats rank 7th at 27%). But an NFL-high 37% of scoring drives AGAINST the Ravens have included a penalty for a first down (the Patriots rank 11th at 18%)."

I think we're doomed now!!
Freakin' Merrill Hoge of ESPN has picked us to win.
Expert Picks (http://espn.go.com/nfl/picks)
That son of a bitch rarely if ever picks us to win.
He's like one of the ultimate Raven haters.
I think he's trying to put the whammy on us by picking us to win.
Listening to Trent Dilfer on the radio yesterday, he's kind of like T-spot here, might as well just forfeit and not show up because he basically gave us no shot to win.
I think he's still got some anger built up in him regardless of what he says.
Jamie Dukes on NFL network picked us to win.
If these so called "experts" were truly that and had that great of a picking record, they'd be in Vegas raking in large bucks.
Quite frankly, I got no problem with people picking the Pats to win.
Their record at home, particurally in the post season speaks for itself.
Just about every other trend you look at regarding these two teams playing against each other dictates a Pats victory.
We will virtually have to play a perfect game, or hope for severe mistakes by the Pats to win here.
How often have you seen us play a perfect game or the Pats meltdown?

I don't care what any of em say.
A lot of people like the Ravens tomorrow. So do I.
The ones who pick New England, I have no beef with. The Pats are at home, they beat us already this season head to head, and Belichick is undefeated lifetime in playoff openers -- at least, I think that's what they said on ESPN this morning; not 100% sure because I was listening to it while a 4 year old demanded more cheerios while her baby sister was crying. Anybody can pick whoever they want. It has no effect on the game whatsoever.

I'm rooting like hell for the Ravens to win, but if I were an analyst with no rooting interest I would be picking the Pats all day. Let's be honest, the only playoff team we beat this year was the Chargers, and that was a nail biter with their defense severely banged up. The next best team that we beat was the Steelers, but that was againste their 3rd string QB and it still took OT at home to pull it off. One thing has been consistent about this team this season is that we always win the games we should win, but we usually lose the ones we should lose. Hopefully we can buck that trend tomorrow.

Not being funny... But what does anyone expect? When we've played these good teams in the season we've choked. It's not like an expert picking against us is the end of the world or really says that much. And if you want the experts to pick you you need to give them reasons, we're playing the best team of the last decade that's beaten us plenty of times in recent memory, including this season.
What sticks in people's minds about us? That we get a ton of penalties and that we can't pull it out against better teams. Would you pick any other team to win a game if that was what they'd shown?
That's not to say it's what I think. But for a second think about it from the perspective of someone other than a Ravens fan.

I think people get too wrapped up in what these so-called experts think. It doesn't matter who they pick, it won't make a damn bit of difference on the field.
Similar to last Sunday, when me and my family were watching the Ravens' game. I was brimming with confidence in saying that when we beat Oakland, we will knock out the Squealers. The immediate reaction from people in my family was "oooh don't say that! You're gonna jinx us!!" Bullshit. Nothing I say or write will make one damn bit of difference on the field. Hell, if it did, I'd quit my job Monday morning and make a living off of Vegas betting lines!

I can only echo what others have said here - it's to be expected that the Pats would be the pick by the objective observer. We've never beaten them, they're 8-0 at home and we haven't won a single big game against a favored team on the road this season (save SD which came at the right time for us).
Until we prove otherwise, I don't see why any talking heads should pick us.
Having said that, this article:http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bal-ravensroundup0108,0,983323.story in today's Sun indicates between 30-40% of 'experts' have picked us, which I'd say is pretty flattering.
Either way, who gives a shit? Predictions are meaningless. Performances count and I couldn't care less what the national media think of us.

Heh. Remember right before the game in Super Bowl 35? That panel of "experts" made their picks. If I remember correctly, only 1 out of the whole panel picked the Ravens to win, with everyone else picking the Giants. And that's despite the fact that the Ravens absolutely destroyed the all-time record for Points Allowed for a 16-game season.

Bob Costas is a prick.
Talking about who the Jets would face next week, said it would "most likely" be the Colts. Meaning the Ravens will lose tomorrow. Way to show your bias there, Bob.

I hate those stats. As if the Pats 46-38 win in 1996 has any bearing on tomorrow's game. (Vinny threw 4 TD's for 353)
Recent history makes more sense, as in this season.

And then at half time did it again, trying to paint a historic parallel with Superbowl III and what he views as the inevitable divisional playoff game between the Jets and the Colts. WTF?!!? I'm fine with a broadcaster favoring the Pats, but to be so utterly dismissive of any other outcome when the spread is only 3.5 points in favor of the home team is truly bizarre.
Also, as to the parallel between Superbowl III between the NY Jets and the Baltimore Colts and the *possible* upcoming divisional playoff game between the NY Jets and the Indianapolis Colts, after the Pats steamroll those insignificant Ravens, which is a double spit in Baltimore's face, Fuck You Bob Costas, Fuck You all to hell. And I usually don't care much about the Colts thing, unless someone tries to hijack the Baltimore Colts history, as Costas did last night.

The funny thing is that I'm actually a bit of a fan of the Indianapolis Colts... emphasis on Indianapolis. I respect what they've built there and am perfectly happy with with what we have here. I let go of all my Colts Mayflower animus after the 2006 season playoff loss. I was over it. But when Costas opened his trap last night and handed our history and lineage over to Indianapolis for some lame premature historic parallel, I felt exactly like one of those bitter old timers.
