WNST has a video up of him saying this. I'm sure this is how he has felt for a while now. I think he will be back next year. Ray will talk him in to it. They have come to close to retire now. Ray wants one more ring and he knows Ed will help him get it.

As much as I love the guy, I really am starting to believe it'd be best if he does.

if we want to convince them that we can get a ring then we'd better bring in 2 wrs(a #1 and a #3) and a real #1 corner.

I cannot even really process this information right now.

if him and ray both retire and we draft a rookie wide out we would condensing alot of growing pains into one season...i like it.

I watched the video...I don't doubt that he's seriously considering it, but I also think that he was just very emotional after losing last night and the season being over. I think with a long offseason to consider, he at least tries to return for one more year.

And no way Ray retires after this year.

I think we'd be fooling ourselves if we would try to say this is a one game thing. He seems pretty clearly to be one of the guys that doesn't buy into the system. He's one that's making it HARDER for Harbaugh to take over leadership of this team. And this year, I think his injuries and age started to degrade his play, which made him a liability on the field.

A healthy Reed still rules in the secondary and makes this defense much, much better.

Agree he was hurting with the phantom tackling. They key is a *healthy* Ed Reed.

Unless injury really forces him out, I think he'll be back. He can't go out like that -- fumbling away a great chance to change the game, in the playoffs. A Hall of Famer does not retire on that note if it's at all possible for him to redeem himself.

If he does get healthy again and comes back, I believe we'll see an inspired, determined Ed Reed at the top of his game next season.

You're fooling yourself if you think he'll ever be *healthy* again. Nerve impingements don't simply go away and get better. Nothing can be done for him. This is going to be a bane on him for as long as he plays football.

I think this team, moving forward would be best off moving on from Reed. IF Ray continues with the fountain of youth he can remain, and if Suggs turns his attitude he can stick around as well.

I think it's a pretty sure scenario that Anquan Boldin will be a Raven next season.

I think we will see one more run with the vets like Reed, Ray, Mason and Pryce.

We have some young guys who can fill in at the FS spot, but none of them are Ed Reed, the best ball hawk in the NFL.

Guys like Dawkins and Sharper are a lot older than Reed, so I hope he heals up and plays a few more years.

This was to be expected. Health comes first and totally understand if he retires. To many people play longer than they should only to be a fraction of themselves as they get older in life.

Ray's here for another two years with the contract we gave him. I think that was always the plan. We're stuck with Suggs for a very, very long time. I worry he's one of the attitude problems, but I really hope not cause there's not a lot we can do about it if he is.

Do you have a source or are you just guessing?

I think you're right. If I had to guess, I would guess Boldin simply cause he'll come the cheapest. A third or maybe a fourth and seventh probably gets it done. He's gonna be 30 years old and wasn't very productive last year. Honestly I don't think it'd be a bad decision at all to trade a third rounder for him and use our first rounder on another receiver.

We would not have to trade for him at all, he is a FA now and there is no way Arizona can keep him, with contracts for Fitz and Breaston they can not afford to pay that kind of money for 3 WR's.

He's under contract with them next year.

From rotoworld:

Anquan Boldin said Saturday night that he would not request a trade this offseason, heading into the final year of his contract.
"I'm going to let it play out," said Boldin. Scheduled to make $3 million in 2010, he has been quiet on the issue of his contract since changing agents to Tom Condon. The Cardinals are sure to explore the trade market this offseason with the oft-injured Boldin pushing age 30 and Early Doucet emerging as a passable replacement. The Dolphins or Ravens could probably land him with a second round pick.

Following Saturday night's loss to the Colts, Derrick Mason predictably said he is undecided about his status for the 2010 season.
Mason, 36, flirted with retirement last offseason before finally being convinced to join the team in August. He defied age once again as the Ravens' consistent wideout this season, catching 73 balls and seven touchdowns. The unrestricted free agent said he wants to come back to the Ravens if he does play, and we'd expect Baltimore to make it worth his while to return. Just don't look for a decision anytime soon

Just the start of what I'm sure will be months of discussion on this topic.

NO, I jsut think it makes too much sense not to happen. As you laid out above. It fits an Ozzie move. It would still allow us to focus major resources in more important areas then WR.

Probably? Why would they write that? The Cards would be stupid not to take a 2nd for him!

Very interesting article here, very good read:

And this in addition:

A fantastic bit from the second link:

In the regular season game between the Colts and Ravens, Reed intercepted Manning on a play that looked, to me, like Manning simply made a dumb throw into double coverage. But when the Ravens faced the Patriots in the first round of the playoffs and New England coach Bill Belichick was singing the praises of Reed, he called that play "the defensive play of the year in the NFL, as far as I'm concerned."
