View Full Version : Gotta hate Billick

Its really sad that we are about to see Hall of Famers like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed retire, knowing how many playoff runs that dominant defense could have taken us on if we had a halfway decent QB for most of the past decade. It was especially rotten considering how many years we pointlessly sacrificed to Boller, which from what I've heard was mostly Billick's fault.
I really feel like we didn't maximize our potential with these two players nor give them the careers that they deserved. Ed Reed retiring without a ring would be sad.

And yet our offense is still just as bad as it's always been.
Boller could've done exactly what Flacco did today, make no mistake about that.

Some of the best players in football have retired without a ring: Dan Marino, Cris Carter, etc. Its just the way things go. I'd love to see Ed get a ring, but unless we draft/trade great this offseason and supercharge our offense, then we probably won't get a chance to get him one (especially because he's contemplating not even coming back next season).

where has ANYONE seen Ray Lewis saying he might retire after this season...
This season was statistically one of his best ever. He led the league in tackles. He was playing with new energy. I would be SHOCKED if he retired this year. MAYBE after next season, but I can't see him retiring now just because we didn't win again.
Mason retiring...I'd be 50/50 on that. Depends on how he feels and how much he thinks we can turn it around next season. And how much we'll spend to re-sign him.

Mental note: Stay away from these message boards for at least 48 hours after a huge loss. Bitterness and despair. Woe is us. We didn't just lose a game, WE WASTED A DECADE! :187734:

yeah, I'm actually feeling a bit better after sleeping it off. I mean, I am a little more frustrated BECAUSE we've gotten to top 8 two years in a row and faltered to a team we chronically have a hard time beating.
But I think we had a lot of good things this season, we did better than 26 other teams, and on the bright side, we still have a football team here in Baltimore. so it's not all that bad.

27-3 if Boller is in there IMO.

I hate to say things that sound derogatory towards someone but do sports fans ever think about what they say before they say it?
How could anyone look back at the talent the Ravens and Billick had to deal with on offense and start a thread like this? When Billick had even the slightest amount of talent of offense the Ravens did well. When the Ravens up graded the offense by signing ONE player (McNair) the team went 13-3. I guarantee you if Billick had Flacco things would be a lot different and I also guarantee that if Billick was the head coach last night the Ravens would have been airing the ball out in the second half. Don't get me wrong I like Harbaugh but one weakness I see of his is he can't make adjustments. I don't care what Mason has done all year but when it's win or go home he should have put Washington and Williams on the outside and start stretching the defense; it was obvious that Mason and Clayton couldn't get open.
So before you post something don't forget to list all the probowl talent on offense that Billick had to deal with like the probowl quarterback, the go to receiver that could get open and stretch the field and the bruising back that didn't tippy toe his way up to the line of scrimmage.
And let me just say this; For all the good Reed has done he’s one of the dumbest players we have. He never learns to protect the ball, that int. could have been a game changer but because he has to be a show off he gave the momentum right back to the Colts. As for the guys retiring; it’s going to happen sooner or later. I’d rather see Mason and Reed retire now and get someone in there to take their place that’s an upgrade like a big time wide out or smart, rather then go through another season of watching Flacco check down to Ray Rice on every play and Reed make a forward lateral and give the ball back to the other team.

I cannot believe there are people out there still wanting to point their finger at Billick for what is still happening right now.
Freakin' amazing!!
Hopefully it's pretty clear to the guy making the player acquisition decisions for this team what we need to take the next step and compete with the big boys still remaining.
This would be the same guy making those decisions when Billick was here.

Last time I checked Ray had a SB ring. So I don't feel sorry for him...HOF, greatest LB ever, all the accolades AND a ring. You can't win a SB every year. How many players never even get in the playoffs? <any never win a SB. If Ed could stay around for another 3-4 years I think we'll have another SB....but his injuries make him 50/50 and his health comes 1st.

Billick wasn't/isn't the GM who built a run-blocking line that couldn't protect Boller, and never got actual receivers for Boller or Flacco to pass to. Peyton, as usual, had all day to throw on most pass attempts, which is the real secret to his success (he's very talented, but talent doesn't mean nearly as much if he's constantly pressured and forced to move his feet, something his line prevents.)
Boller would have had the same kind of day as Flacco last night, as Cameron/Cavanaugh refused to throw on first down (despite Indy playing for runs) until we were down by 17 late. It was a terrible game plan. You take what a defense gives you, but Cameron doesn't.

"From what I've heard was mostly Billick's fault?" Way to go out on a limb there, and express your own opinion.
From what I've heard, you should get a pulse, and form your own opinions based on what you have observed.
