Webb has been working out every day to accelerate the healing process and is ahead of the curve according to a few sources. The Ravens love his determination and attitude and he's a perfect example of good things that can rise from adversity.

However, it is important to keep in mind that Webb's position requires quick reaction in the lower extremities and that places added burden on the joints. Consequently doctors may be a bit more cautious with a cornerback.

From what I can gather and to borrow from the injury report vernacular, Webb is questionable to start the season on time. The PUP list is a very real possibility.

Tony, any word on Fabian Washington's status? I seem to recall they both had the same type of injury, so I would figure Fabian is likely equal or a little behind Webb in terms of readiness...

If both these guys start the season on PUP, we definitley need at least one decent vet corner to pair up with Foxworth for a year. Not a lot of talent out there, so I guess I can understand why Ozzie has kind of taken a back seat on this one. Figuring our plan of action is let the draft shake out and then see who gets cut/who is available.

Washington tweeted me back yesterday and said "The knees good". Not very specific, but still its right from the horses mouth.

Washington's injury was sustained about a month before Webb's so that certainly helps. I know that he's been working out. I'll dig into the possibility of him on PUP but in my conversations that has not come up at all.

that might explain why Ozzie hasn't kicked the tires on more FA CBs...If Washington can play Week 1, it makes CB a little less of a need. Granted, a lot of people think Washington is not a great starter at CB, but the truth is he's probably better than most of what is available in FA right now. You open with Foxworth, Washington, Carr, a drafted CB...that's a decent enough secondary for me, assuming Webb comes back midway through the year.

Unfortunate, but I would take the approach of babying this kid a bit. He showed the makings of something special last year. I don't want him facing any risk of a relapse cause he rushes back into something. He is WAY more valuable to us missing the next 8 games and playing the next 8 years than he is to rush him and possibly blow out his whole career.

Thanks for the update Tony. I love this kid as a potentially great NFL CB, so any info you get on his progress is much appreciated!

I agree that I don't want to see Webb rushed back. He looked very good and physical when he played last year that I wouldn't want to see him reinjure himself.

It is good to hear that he is working hard though to come back from his injury.

any news on Ayanbadejo's recovery? He was great for the 3 games he played on D last year.

From the Ravens website:

Those concerned about the depth of the Ravens’ cornerback corps can let out a slight sigh of relief.

Cornerback Fabian Washington, who began the year as a starter, expects to be back to full strength by the time training camp rolls around in August.

That will give Webb plenty of time to get healthy, with Foxworth/Washington/Carr/Rookie being good enough to start the season.

I would be shocked if Webb was effective in a CB role in 2010. He will need more time.

Somebody on Sunspot said they took a work-related tour of the Castle
and saw Webb who was working out there and was sweating big time.

It was obiously he was working hard to get into shape but he was
wearing a monster knee brace.

So the poster who said he needs more time might be right.

Still, it is a VERY good sign to see he is hitting it hard, trying to get back. Shows that he has the will and desire to get back on the field and get back to where he was last year. It will still take some time, but you won't have to worry about his recovery dragging on like less motivated players seem to do.

It is encouraging to see L. Webb trying to accellerate his healing process, but honestly I would be fine with another year out to get that leg 100%.

I could definately start the year with Fabian Washington, Dominique Foxworth (who got better as the year ended), and Chris Carr. Unfortunately we also have Frank Walker, but that group may be able to hold fort until Webb is ready.

Looks like Frank Walker, P.I., might be the next player to leave the Ravens.

Look, I'm not going to excuse Walker's penalties...he doesn't get a free pass for those...

but I really want to see at the end of this season if his replacement does any better. It's easy to forget plays like the game saving pass breakup against SD, and some key pass deflections in the win against the Steelers this year. True, his penalties were a killer, in terms of when he got them, but I still think his replacement on the roster will most likely not play as well as he could. Unless we replace him with a high round pick at CB, then ok I could see that player outperforming Frank. My point is just that as much as guys want to fall all over themselves to walk him out the door, he did server some good purpose on this team last year. If you cut Walker last year, who would've been playing nickel during the playoffs? Joe Schmo off the street?

With Walker gone, our current depth assuming Webb is PUP is Foxworth, Washington, Carr, ?. I wonder if Ivy comes back for TC to fill Walker's ST role.

Agree totally, you have to temper your expectations for the 5th corner and ST guy. Frank is good on ST, can pressure on FG attempts, he's pretty good inside against TE's and slot WR's and he plays with no fear, just doesnt have the long speed to stick with guys outside. Am i excusing the PI penalties? No, but if we have Foxy,Washington,Carr, and a Draft pick to start the season, then i want Walker to at least be in camp. Im also intriugued by Cary Williams.

:iagree:
100%

I don't cut Walker. I do try to get an upgrade to replace him, but but even if I get the upgrade, I still have to look at the rest of the bench and decide is having to have an Oglesby/Ivy/?? instead better for the whole team picture.
I know his penalties are maddening, but he is very good with what he does bring to the table.

With Lardarius/Fabian questions, really want to see a rookie with upside that we can be developing gotten out of this draft, but unless we get more picks, gonna be tough with only 5 picks.

One can only hope. Ditching Walker would cut our PI penalties in half next year. It's all well and good to have a physical player in the secondary, but there's that nagging little matter of coverage skills to be considered.
