Who is going to return kicks?

Carr clearly is not the answer for punt returner. In fact, if we draft Kyle Wilson, Carr should be cut altogether. Wilson's had a great career in college as a punt returner, but if he's a starter at CB, I wouldn't use him. So, who do ya think would work?

I think Parmele will continue to be the kick returner, Carr will be the punt returner until Webb is ready. Carr doesnt bring the home run burst but he got better as the year went on and he is very reliable back there. I think he'll be better in year 2, he also got better in the secondary as the year went on. As far as the draft if Banks or Holliday is available late then the Ravens might take a look.

Somebody who can break a tackle once in a while. Jordan Shipley, Texas, looks pretty good on film and also looks like a pretty good receiver. Would be a nice 2nd rd. pick would fill two holes.

I mean reliable as not coughing up the football, he did take alot of fair catches but he got better and better as the year progressed. I like Shipley alot but with the way the WR core is set now i dont see them taking a possession WR in the 2nd round.

Why should Carr be cut if we draft Wilson? You can never have enough depth at the CB postion. We're going to need Carr this year with Webb and Washington coming back from serious knee injuries.

Agree -- Parmele was really starting to "get it" too, and I like having an RB, who's a little more durable and in theory a better ball handler than a WR or DB, given the type of hits you take on returns. Carr started to get the idea -- get upfield NOW, then look for a place to make a move -- towards the end. Ideally we will not want Webb back there any more than we want Reed there, simply because he's going to be too valuable to the defense.

Return specialists aren't hard to find, though the Ravens haven't excelled at finding them. But I'd rather they keep looking to upgrade from Carr and Parmele, if possible, than to use Webb. Webb's a heck of a player, but I just hate the idea of him getting hurt on something that is, over time, a play where you really only get marginal improvements from one return-man to another. Mostly the return comes from the blockers.

As for Shipley, he's smart and will work hard, and somebody will find a use for him, but I am not sold on him as an NFL return man. He had bulldozer-sized holes to run through at Texas, against teams that couldn't spell "defense" in the Big12. Let someone else be fooled by the tape.

I don't agree with that. I think the Ravens have excelled at finding very good kick returners Jermaine Lewis, BJ Sams, Yamon Figurs except for 2008, Webb would have been next on the list of good ones

We haven't had a top tier punt returner since Jermaine Lewis. I don't know if Kyle Wilson would be just another average to below guy to add to the woodpile of Brightful, Sams etc., or the next coming of Jimmy Leonhard. In any event, I don't see cutting Carr - he performed in the secondary relatively well when called up late last season.

The problem is, you don't draft a "main KR/PR" in Round 1...In Round 1, you are going after someone who is going to be a cornerstone POSITION player for your team.

You can put Kyle Wilson out there for a year or two, like I think we did with Ed Reed, but after that player starts getting involved as a regular on offense or defense, you have to either remove them from that role or have a DAMN good backup ready to go.

Can someone name me any returners who have major starting roles on their teams? Except for DeSean Jackson and Percy Harvin.

I don't agree with this at all. Completely apart from his punt returning duties, Carr showed improvement as last season wore on playing in the defensive secondary. He'll never be a No. 1 corner, but we need the depth back there regardless of how the draft goes. And I'd sure as hell rather see Carr kept as opposed to Frank Walker, PI.

As for the punt returning role, Carr's not great but is adequate if we don't find a better option. Parmele performed well on kick returns and I believe can also be very good as backup RB.

Plenty of time to draft or find one. As far as cutting Carr, I thought he got better as the year went by and at the end I thought he played well on the corner.
