Veteran kicker Neil Rackers, who had talked to the Ravens, signed with the Houston Texans on Monday. That leaves Shayne Graham as the top kicker on the market. He met with Ravens officials during the NFL owners meetings. The Ravens would like to sign a kicker to compete with incumbent Billy Cundiff, a restricted free agent assigned a $1.1 million tender.

out of NOWHERE! wow...

so the interesting thing will be if the Jets move quickly on Graham, that leaves us with only one option I can think of...

Matt Stover.

This would be interesting, because I think Stover was hesitant about coming back this season. But, we're probably his best shot right now at getting back to a SB. And I think the public opinion is wildly in favor of going back to the 2 K model if we can get Stover back.

I don't think Stover is coming back. That ship sailed last year. Bisciotti mentioned in his most recent interviews that the Ravens have no regrets about letting him go. What is done is done.

Why is everyone still hellbent on bringing Stover back? Did any of you watch the Super Bowl? Stover is very accurate from inside 40 yards, but is awful now from beyond that. Not to mention he cannot do kickoffs anymore. Stop confusing the Stover of 10 years ago with the kicker he is today. It's time to move on.

Baltimore Sun lists three people besides Graham...

Mike Nugent, who lost the audition to Cundiff last year
Matt Stover
John Carney

Carney was one of the better kickers for awhile last year, but bringing him in over Stover wouldn't make much sense, both are older guys. Nugent likewise wouldn't make sense.

I'm not necessarily hellbent on bringing him back, but it would appear our coaching staff wants to have someone at least compete with Cundiff for the job. Plus, Stover is a sentimental favorite, a guy I really wanted to see retire as a Raven. Maybe he could come in and provide some mentoring to a younger kicker, similar to how the Saints used Carney at the end last year. Carney was initially the replacement for Hartley while he sat out for his 4 game suspension, but they didn't want to make a kicker change until Carney started screwing up. Then they kept him on as a coach of sorts. I'd like to see us try to keep Matt on as a kicking consulant, but who knows if that is what HE wants.

Poor Billy Condiff. All he did was come in and mop up the mess left by Steve Haushka, and do a solid job kicking the ball. And his reward? The Ravens are hell bent on replacing him.

NO... if they were hell bent on replacing him, they would have signed someone already. Instead they hope to have someone to compete with him.

They forgot Gano. LOL

I wouldn't mind giving him another try even though he broke his foot
after arriving in DC last year or is he still signed with them?

Gano didn't get a fair shake with us.

So you're going to sign a proven kicker that could easily get a starting job elsewhere, and bring them in to compete with him?

If you're confident in him, why bring someone else in to compete?

The truth lies in the middle. THey aren't comfortable, but are ready to soldier on if need be.

I think they were burned with overconfidence last year with the Hauschka/Gano battle...both were shaky in the preseason, but rather than shore up the position, we just put our trust in Hauschka.

Since they got burned by that, I think their mantra is "you can't have enough good kickers". Cundiff is a nice guy and did a hell of a job last year...but Graham is an upgrade, I think most everyone would agree with that. And with how cheap you can get him, why not have them duke it out? That is what Houston is doing with Kris Brown and Rackers
