Haloti Ngata is recovering well from a minor pectoral tear suffered during the Pro Bowl, undergoing surgery this offseason to repair the damage.
He's expected to make a complete recovery well before training camp.
Ngata has been nagged by the pectoral injury for years, but has only missed three career starts. He missed all of those games last season due to an ankle injury.

Although perhaps the best defensive tackle in the NFL, this injury is another reason why the Ravens cannot roll out the Brinks truck to pay him the market rate (unless it comes down considerably). Too many holes to fill, too much depth required in today's NFL, and his position does not highly impact the game like a QB, O-tackle or QB-rushing end or LB. With apologies to Bruce Hornsby, that's just the way it is.:usa:

Haloti forces teams not to run, and thus into third and long. If you don't think that has more effect on a game then a LBer could, then I'm not sure what game you are watching.

Wow. I cannot disagree more.
Players of Ngata's caliber do not grow on trees. Opposing D's game plan for Ngata, forcing them to run in any other direction but his. His presence in the middle makes it that much more predictable for our coaches to game plan.
That's a HUGE impact. I think you need to back up your "his position does not highly impact the game" comment.

I disagree with this totally. In all fairness the entire defense in the scheme of things is built around Ngata. The fact that he is probably the only consistenly double teamed defensive player when on the field for us, he automatically puts the offense at a disadvantage with one less player. That and the fact that all the LB's in the scheme at somepoint rely on him to blitz the QB and that he is the focal point in our run defense, he is worth every penny he will get. It couldn't happen to a better person as well.

Yet another reason that they should just do away with the Pro Bowl. No one wants to watch it, no one wants to play in it, and you're putting the best players in the game at risk.

I could not agree more. What a joke. I think the League sometimes forget that this is a brutal sport and that even genetic freaks like Haloti are human.
While we're at it, let's expand the season to 30 games...
