And the 2000 Ravens are ranked...........................7th........huh?

The rationale is that the 2000 Ravens did not play against a pro bowl QB in the regular season.

What they didn't factor in is the fact that our team had a very mediocre QB and offense. Didn't we go like 5 games without a touchdown that year?

I'm pissed.

Who cares? Does the NFL Network's ranking change the fact that the 2000 defense allowed a record low points in a 16 game season? Or does it take away our Super Bowl ring? The opinions of a bunch of talking heads and self-proclaimed experts means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

That is very very true, but I am with Dave.

It makes no sense to rank the record holding scoring D lower than top 3. There were other all time great units that may have had more great players on it. I do not think so, but it is a fun debate. Not a lot of the guys from the 2000 D will make the HOF, but guys like Boulware, McCrarry, C-Mac, Sharper, Adams, Goose and Burnett were playing at all pro type levels that year along with Ray and Woodson who are clearly the all time greats on the unit.

The 2006 D was not far behind the 2000 D IMO, they just did not get the breaks they needed in the playoff game like they did in 2000, but the regular season dominance was similar.

I seen that the other night on NFL Network. You know it's a bunch of favortism and BS from some douche, it's funny when they talk about the 2000 D (not the rankings, I'm talking about Eisen, Deion, Sapp, etc.) and they debate who was the best ever and they always say that it is the 2000 Ravens or the 85 Bears.

Has there been another SB that was a Defensive Shut Out. The Giants did not score one point on the 2000 Ravens D in the SB. The one TD they did score was on ST's.

#10 all time LB core?

I did not see the list that ranks the 2000 D overall.

Has there been another SB that was a Defensive Shut Out.

Actually this has happened 3 times, but the Ravens were the only team to do it since 1975.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Bowl_records#Non-occurrences

A shutout - Every Super Bowl participant to date has scored. In four cases the offenses have been shut out while the special teams or defense scored the only points:
Super Bowl VI: The Miami Dolphins finished with 3 points, the fewest in a Super Bowl to date (and the only team to date to fail to score a touchdown).
Super Bowl VII: The Washington Redskins returned a fumble for a touchdown after blocking a field goal attempt and converted the extra point with 2:07 remaining in the game.
Super Bowl IX: The Minnesota Vikings recovered a blocked punt in the end zone but did not convert the extra point with 10:33 left in the game.
Super Bowl XXXV: The New York Giants scored on a 97-yard kickoff return and converted the extra point in the third quarter.

We should be #1 just off of how God awful our offense was. If we had just a smidge of an O we would have shattered more than just the scoring record. We gave others offenses way too many opportunities to score and get yards on that 2000 D and we still managed to win and break that record. Didn't we also get the rushing team defense record as well that year? Holding all 16 teams under 1000 yds over the course of a year? I could have sworn that was another record.

The 1985 Bears were the best, IMO ...

Followed by 2000 Ravens then the 1979 Steelers.

This episode first aired over a year ago...June 19, 2009. It has been replayed multiple times since. Not sure why there was never an uproar before. It also lists #1 as the Steelers of the 70's. They took the entire decade into account for what the Ravens accomplished in 1 year. Bullshit.

#10 Minnesota Vikings of the late 60s-70s
#9 Dallas Cowboys of the late 70s
#8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers of 2002
#7 Baltimore Ravens of 2000
#6 New York Giants of the 50s
#5 Atlanta Falcons of the late 70s
#4 Kansas City Chiefs of 1969
#3 Green Bay Packers of the 60s
#2 Chicago Bears of 1985
#1 Pittsburgh Steelers of the 70s
