I want to extend a sincere thanks to all of you that voted for this site in the recent SI poll for preferred fan sites. I know that the poll results resulted in a landslide victory for another site -- or so we thought. Recently SI decided to link up all of the nominated fan sites instead of simply nominating one winner. You will see us listed here: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/teams/ravens/
Let's do our very best to maintain integrity and quality and let's sprinkle in some of that Ravens intensity we witnessed on Sunday.
Again, thank you to all and RAVE ON!

I nominated this site along with a few others in my capacity as Sports Illustrated's Ravens correspondent. Thanks to all involved for getting this site off to a strong start.

I just hope all the publicity doesn't turn this place into the same mess the last one became. I'm enjoying the civility to much.:(

I think our stout mods and admin have observed and learned from the past and they've implemented the tools to prevent a meltdown. These guys and gals are GOOD!
Just watch and see....
No worries...
Rave on....

I've gotta say, this site has been immensley more enjoyable than Scout. I was planning on making it a gradual transition, but after my first day on here, I never went back.

Well, lets just hope the troublemakers from RI don't ever find us. This is just so cool to actually have discussions without all the hate and hostility.

Rack that -- I still go over there occasionally, and the tone is strikingly different from this site. There are still some good posters, but far too many rude idiots who have to throw an insult into every post. It's like having a large group of ill-mannered kids interrupting conversations among adults.

Why post to one board? Scout is still good and it has a lot more traffic. Which is what makes a message board great. Just because something is new doesn't entitle it to be better. I don't know if this site has earned that distinction, that its better, other than that there are no insults--which is refreshing. Most of the posters from this site are good and hopefully wont limit themselves to only one flavor.

If you say so. I don't think traffic alone makes a message board great -- it's the type of traffic, the nature of the posts, that makes a message board.
If you like Scout, by all means stick with it. It's strictly a personal choice.

There is some horse play and there are some serious discussions. You even said yourself that you would frequent both sites

Maybe I would totally give up on it if every poster came here or vice versa.

Traffic is the success to any website. If you post something and no one is there to see it-- whats the point? In time this place will have the numbers but right now it doesnt. We'll see what happens.

Sometimes a small, polite, intelligent community is preferable to a large, obnoxious, ignorant one. High traffic can mean more money but it does not mean more success.

We keep track of posts here and on other places. Since Sept 6th, the post count here is running about 40% of that of the big site according to the numbers at the bottom of each site. And...several of the forums on 24x7 do not contribute to the total post count - the test forum for example.
Anyway, it's not a competition. Just a way of benchmarking.
Hey, I have a particular brand of car and go to three sites that discuss that brand. Enjoy yoursleves wherever you go.

I agree with what you say but keep in mind that a small community can also be obnoxious and ignorant as well--even if they remain civil towards one another. Also the creators of this board want more traffic by posting links on other site and also redirecting traffic from the ravensnest2 site to here. The tools here for the mods seems like it will keep people in check and thats a good thing and a step in the right direction.
As for traffic i wasn't even thinking in terms of money. I was thinking in terms of views and posts. Free registration to a web site and the many ways the creators of this site are trying to generate traffic will be helpful toward the success of the board but it will get bigger if not bigger than YBR at somepoint
