Albert McClellan and Prince Miller
There goes my 53 make the cut. I actually thought Miller would make it. Not for his corner skills but for his return ability. I guess that muffed return really hurt him. Maybe it was his corner skills.

# I'm hearing that Ravens rookie wide receiver David Reed has made the team.
More Ravens' cuts: wide receiver Eron Riley, tight end Davon Drew and offensive lineman Devin Tyler. l
I'm hearing that the Ravens will retain Billy Cundiff as their kicker over Shayne Graham.
Also Travis Fisher was cut.

Ramon Harewood is an interesting one...it'd be hard to IR him now that he's made the team. And he'd clearly be the odd man out if we were to pickup Jansen. Not so sure he'd clear waivers and go to PS.

+1
Clearly in kickoffs Cundiff was the better performer, in field goals, PAs they were basically neck and neck.
Field position in this league is huge, it is what special teams is all about for the most part.
Glad to see money wasn't the deciding factor here.
Almost certain at some point we'll all be cussing out Cundiff, but I'm not so sure that occasional error will out weigh what appears to be his consistant kickoff ability.
Guess we really won't know until the end of the season to see where we stand.
Liitle surprised about Harewood.
Definitely a great deal of upside, but Very raw at this point.
Gotta start wondering about David Hale with his injury, and Gaither with his whatever opening the door for Harewood to gain a spot.

Just given the comments from Harbaugh about vested vet rule, seems that his cut was mainly so they didn't guarantee his salary.
A bit suprised both he AND Prince Miller cut though. Would think Prince Miller might make the team for one week, get cut for Fisher, who then gets cut for Cary Williams...
Right now, our week 1 CB depth chart is: Washington, Carr, Wilson, Webb
Unless Gerard suprisingly made the team, only 4 CBs active on week 1, not to mention Webb is still recovering and Wilson is brand new? That seems risky. Hamlin probably makes the team due to Reed on PUP, maybe he is technically a 5th CB?

Yes, I see what you mean about the vested veteran bit, does make sense to a certain extent, doesn't mean I got to like it though.
Gerard sliding in wouldn't surprise me either.
I think they're going to ntry and slide miller in on the practice squad, risky, but there is always going to be somebody or two they put on there and hope it sticks.
In a pinch, I think they think they can put nakumura out there as a third or fourth DB if needed.

Gerard might make the team, he actually plays ST well and was out on the field for the first time against the Rams, and he already has time with the team (play book, verbage), makes since over Miller and Fisher, how much worse can he play.
Also wouldn't be surprized to see Harewood released later on in the week or injured in practice after the surge from other teams take place and then placed on the PS or IR. I think he is to RAW to waste a roster spot. Unless they plan on spending a lot of extra time working on his Technique. No doubt he has the build and physical nature, he was a beast as a Run Blocker, maybe goaline and Jumbo packages or something.

As of right now I'm pissed about that Barnes trade. either they know something we don't or got a deal. Why would you trade one of our only consistent proven although not the greatest pass rushers?? Only so he can be replaced by a run stuffing linebacker who could effectively be neutralized if teams decide to throw all over us because of our stout run D. Perplexed to say the least.

Not exactly the words I'd use to describe Barnes.
Proven pass rush ability not always = sacks, especially among undesized pass rushers. He's got speed hurries the QB and if he goes unblockd he's getting to the Q fast. How many holding calls did he draw from other teams 1's? But this is moot, I trust Oz. Just my initial frustrations.

I'd have to agree with you there. He was drawing a lot of holding penalties which is huge for our D, anything and long we are usually sending 6-7 on a blitz. However he was starting, so he was only producing in situational plays and edgar Jones has shown that he is just has good on those downs.

Barnes is talented, sure, but "consistent" would be the opposite of what he is.

Anyone have any thoughts on Denver shopping Alphonso Smith for a 5th. If no one bites he will be cut. Denver traded their 2010 first round pick(14) to move up in the 09 draft to select him at 37. He apparently hasnt shown them much. Maybe they just dont know how to groom a player.

I'd definately take him...especially considering our CB's always seem to be getting hurt over the last 2 years. At the end of the year, we have had our 4th CB's starting playoff games because of injuries and have had to play guys like Walker and even Ivy a lot down the stretch.

Yeah being new I didnt research threads already started. My bad... Still I dont think he makes their team or to be placed on IR. I think he is out. Its just a matter if they can find someone to bite on a trade. After us letting most of the depth at corner go, I can see us still bringing in at least one more quality db. Eagles only give up a seventh-round pick for Barnes, according to an NFL source. That's the equivalent of a Jamar Chaney or Moise Fokou.
Not happy at all if this is true.
Barnes must have already been outside of the 53 and the team just wanted to get whatever crap they could get for him.

The value migth be okay, think Josh Wilson.. a starter, a former second round pick, need. But I find it curious too, when we have suspect pass rush.

Not that Barnes is a world beater here, but still fit in nicely on a team that needs to improve on its pass rushing ability.

just by comparison, Burgess was traded for a conditional 7th round pick last year. The reason for this? He was a bubble player, had a 50/50 shot of even MAKING the team.
Conditional 7th round picks are generally traded for guys you are cutting, just so you get SOMETHING for them. That would indicate to me, like I said, that Barnes wasn't going to make the team. If that had happened, would've been a shocker as well. He looked like he was in line for a VERY big role this year. Kind've like a "12th starter" on D...

It's just weird after all the talk all offseason about improving the pass rush, and then the talk about how Barnes was having such a great camp, and apparently, he wasn't going to make the team so you basically give him away for what will probably be a late 7th round pick?

I'd bet he is camp fodder for another team next year and then is out of the league.
You have to catch the ball in this league and while a guy like Miles Austin didn't become a pro bowl guy till his 4th year, he was a viable NFL WR before then.

Don't worry Dan I held out promise for Harper, but after that first drop against the Skins, I new it was over, I guess alot of that had to do with the fact that all of our WR were 5'10 last year and he had height, but just couldn't seem to bring it all together with his hands. Stallworth cannot be PUP'd.
A player has to be on active PUP before put on the reserve PUP...and you can't be on the active PUP after actively participating in one full practice in training camp. So really he was ineligible as soon as he took the field for the first day of training camp.
They also are not going to IR him as that would put him out for the year.
He is on the active roster and will remain there until he is ready to return, or the team decides it's been too long and puts him on IR.

Just check out the roster page on the ravens website (http://www.baltimoreravens.com/People/Player_Roster.aspx?q=position) and it will tell you who is on the team.

No, he slipped my mind because of the injury and being out. Of our 2010 draft class, we had 0 cuts...one IR (Harewood), one PUP (Kindle), rest made it (Cody, Dickson, Pitta, A.Jones, D.Reed)

I'm a still a thinkin' we look mighty thin at the O-line there.
Keeping four running backs looks kind of suspect to me.
I'll assume when Reed comes back, Hamlin is as good as gone.
Linebacker looks abit heavy as well, even more so that Kindle isn't on there yet either.

Stallworth hasn't been PUP'd or IR'd has he? I've not seen any announcements about it.
No, he can not be PUP'd and if he is put on IR he is done for the year.

4 RBs is actually one less than last year...Last year we had Rice, McGahee, McClain, Parmele, and Lawrence. Lawrence got injured towards the end.
Got to wonder if some of these moves are just temporary until we can scan the waiver wire. Prince Miller making the team is an example...love the guy, but he's only temporary.

All 350lbs of Mount Cody is on the roster

interesting thought, not sure if it happens though. I think they want to show that the move to bring in Stallworth pays off down the road.

Yeah I just have that feeling that things are still in the making. I think if anything else happens before week 2 it will have to be at the DL, LB, or WR position (if we trade or cut), we are still heavy in those areas. I wasn't thinking we would keep all of those DL.

There are still expendable WR's under Stallworth if we were to make a move like that, I would imagine that M. Smith would be slashed

I'm thinking Hamlin is as well, and maybe somebody from the linebacker corp like Burgess, etc.
Quite frankly, I've seen nothing out of Gooden that says he's a sure fire keeper either.
Dude was touted as little Ray when he came out which nobody really expects, but at least look like there's a reason they said that.

No doubt Miller is only here until Cary Williams gets back...I don't think they are keeping 6 CB's.
Hamlin is holding a spot for Reed and Marcus Smith is holding a spot for Stallworth.
But it's great for those guys to get to continue the dream and they are all solid players IMHO.

Hamlin will stick...he wasn't impressive, but not seeing anyone better on the waiver wire. He's a backup to Zbi anyway

Sweet what did I miss? I went to the MD state fair and couldn't keep up. I thought Miller got cut and now I'm reading that he made it. Damn twitter. I'm glad he made it. Troy finally got the ax and DWill getting cut is semi-surprising. This roster will change some more as players come back from suspension and injuries.
Does anyone know why the NFL sticks with just a 53-man roster? Sounds like something the Union should visit, shouldn't it? I mean hell, as long as a team stays under the Cap, why shouldn't they be able to carry 100 guys?
Sorry for the thread hijack, just something that's always bugged me....carry on! :)

To be technical, Stallworth is holding the spot for himself. He is on the 53
I am guessing they feel more confident that Miller will get through to the practice squad easier after week 2 when Williams comes back.

I always wonder why only 53 too. But you can believe if there is ever a 18 game season the NFLPA will push for a bigger roster and a bigger active roster on gamedays.

maybe it is the beers but I think you and I (ironically) are the only ones seeing the genius behind picking up Housh. We pick up Bolden and suddenly we are all content at wide receiver? I know Bolden and Mason are some tough mother fo's but if one of those guys goes down we are back to square one with our offense.
Its official Seattle cut him; http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2010/sep/04/seahawks-cut-tj-houshmandzadeh/ No trade needed and no need to cover is 7 million salary.
I think the idea that it is wrong to have three "possession" receivers is a false argument. Just think about an opposing team having to put a #3 DB on Mason? Mason picked up 100 grabs facing opponents #1 or #2 DB all year. that coupled with our tight ends and running backs and we very well could now have the most explosive offense in the league.
Don't let Cincy get him.
Bring in Housh!
EDIT: latest update on whats going on with Housh:
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that nothing had happened between the Vikings and Houshmanzadeh a half hour before the roster deadline. It was likely other teams were interested in Houshmanzadeh and his handlers wanted to hear all offers before cutting a deal.

You know when I heard he was cut I honestly didn't give two shits, but then I read your post and am in agreement with you and Houston. I don't know that Stallworth is the guy I send packing (for some reason I like him, mainly because of how he handled his accident situation)
But our wideouts would be nice to have DS and or Clayton as our fouth and fifth WR's.

You make a good arguement and I'm starting to agree with you. With Housh being cut, Oz could sign him very cheap since he'll still get paid by the Seahawks.

I would think this would have to be a condition to the league expanding the regular season by 2 games. Covers injuries and depth issues that arise from it.
The problem is NFLPA would have though is that players would ultimately make less money. Hell, we would have seen the last of Darelle Revis if that were the case.

And why couldn't he? Masons abililty to run routes could really open him up down field despite his speed when/if facing a number 3 corner. Mason has been a pass catching machine, cosistent years of 1000yd seasons, multiple 2000yd seasons from scrimmage he's got his share of balls thrown his way. If he wanted to complain about Housh starting over him he would be contradicting the reason be came back, to help win a Superbowl. The biggest reason I think Oz won't get him is his attitude. There was an incident where a radio host was fired because he called housh a racist for allegedly calling him a "punk ass white boy" only one incident, but if true speaks miles of his character, something the ravens are big on.

Because Mason is a better player.
You make the argument that he could move inside as Housh comes in on the outside as third receiver, but with only 2 receivers on the field there is no question who I'd rather have on the field. It's not TJ.

So monday night were running against the jets, were running out of I-form twins. Tight end lines up next to the right tackle and the two receivers line up next to each other on the weak side. Your telling me you'd rather have mason in over Housh? With Boldin and Housh's ability to run block that's a scary formation. I'm not saying put Mason inside, that's foolish. When in run packages such as the one I used as an example, I want Housh as the number 2 receiver I don't care how much better you think mason is.

In that one, specific example I'd jsut rather have another TE. As a total package that comes with a WR, I prefer Mason.

That's probably why it wont happen.
