He had a long fall, I hope he is alright, but that was a Todd Heap classic catch. The one for a 1st down he caught 2 yards short but carried the tackler to the sticks was just as impressive. He should have a huge year if he can stay healthy. You can no longer double him no matter how much he moves the chains.

That was a beautiful catch. I love it when the receiver has to jump to get the ball and connects. Let's hope for more of the same all throughout the season

And he burnt ex-Raven Jim Leonard...Heap was fantastic last night....except he should of had that one TD.

He did indeed. it doesn't hurt that he is 7-feet taller than Jimmy L.

There were a few other contenders for grab of the game. Boldin on the sideline looked simple but he had no time for anything but a clean snatch and there was no hint of hesitation or doubt. The one where he went up over Wilson to get us out of our redzone was also artistic.
Mason catching the fastball quick out with one hand and one shoulder pad was also fantastic, and you can not ignore the impact of TJ and his silky ponytail style and clutches. He also really snatches the ball out of the air without giving any indication to the defender he is about to do it.

There are just so many offensive weapons on this team now. Wow... who would have ever thought that?

Heap has got to be as underrated as a player as there is in the league, he's never mentioned amongst the league best, they always just say he cant stay healthy but he's made himself into a solid blocker, still can stretch the field as well as find the holes in coverage and make the tough underneath catches. Not alot of TE's i'd take ahead of Heap at this point.

Well, in all fairness, up until last night, he was kind of a former shadow of himself. The Ravens were obviously not too certain of his longevity or durability, as they drafted two tight ends in successive draft picks. For a few years, Heap was NOT underrated. He was one of the better/best TE's in the league and was indeed regarded as such.

Happy to report... the Sun says Heap says he is A-OK! (Have to admit, the second emotion I had after "Hell yeah, HEEEEEEAAAP!!!!!!" was "Oh crap... that fall...")

He came down awfully hard on his elbow. Fortunately his awesomeness absorbed most of the blow.

Funny how that coincides with the team adding legit weapons outside in Boldin and TJ. He was banged a couple yrs before last year but he's always been the same player, he was just able to get some match ups he wouldnt have gotten before. It's almost remarkable he had 53 catches last year with Clayton and Washington as the #2 and 3 last year. He's really the player he's always been except he's improved as a blocker. I just think he's been undervalued by outside people.

Fair enough. I do not disagree with everything you said. He was a great blocker the last two years. But these days, i simply do not think blocking TE's get the love that receiving TE's get.

He's Todd Heap and he's gonna have a spot in the Ravens' Ring of Honor if I have to climb the rafters and place his name up there myself. Next to Ray Lewis, no other Raven has sacrificed as much of his body for this team.

I look at the linked picture

and I think to myself, that man is listed at 247 pounds.
It's no wonder he had a crash landing; he didn't have time to put his landing gear down!

If it comes to that, feel free to put his name over top of Ernest Byner's.

Hold on, who was calling for him to be cut before this season? As I recall, everyone was ready to move forward without Heap because he's "washed up" and a "has been". Oops!

I definently missed that wagon as well, although his production has dropped for a few years he is still all in, either blocking or running routes.
Back to the catch.. That was Vintage Heap at his best and the better of it was the chant coming through my speakers. HEEEAAPPPP!!!!!

Thanks to all those balls Boller threw behind him over the years where
Heap had to reach exposing his back over the middle.

Was Heap touched when he went down? I was yelling at the screen for him to get up and run.

The refs said he was, but I didn't see contact, and Heap obviously didn't think he'd been touched/didn't hear a whistle because he got up and started bookin' it. Honestly, I was so caught up with the emotion of that play that at the time I didn't care if he was touched or not... at that moment I knew we'd won. (This knowledge would be sorely tested after the ensuing run-run-lame pass sequence, but still... Turned out to be right :D)

Some people have been on his back for years now, calling him out for being soft and saying we should've dumped him.
I've got a huge mancrush on the guy, and since he's improved his blocking it has only gotten bigger.

I had said that he was past his prime, and no longer an effective component in the passing game, and said it might be time to move on from Heap. But as stated, I have been proven wrong, and was happy to have been so. Being wrong has never felt so right.

I watched that replay 3 times to see if he was touched and he was touched on the foot by Leonhard

Beloved ex-Raven Jim L. couldn't cover our TE one on one but he was smart enough to tap Heap on the foot as he went down.
