This was an EXHILARATING win! Joe and Harbs 1st win at Heinz, Housh 1st TD as a Raven (and overall GINORMOUS game, esp. on that series), defense 1st INT (RAY!!!). Kept the penalties down, kept plowing w/ all the RB injuries, D got stops after the dumb turnovers we knew would happen. Fantastic win. This was a determined, focused team effort. I am prouder of this win than the Jets win... and sometimes I masturbate to the Jets win.

For once, the Ravens were the more composed and disciplined team. Less penalties, performed in the clutch. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

I think even though we scored 17 points this is a testament on how well our offense can be. We did have them guessing alot today and kept them off balance. I think that Cam gets to happy with the cute calls sometimes however. Where the hell are the three TE sets in the goal line? Even if you pass they are taller than any defender and if Flacco can do one thing is throw it high (sorry Flacco bring the ball down).

1) Can everyone in the world stop calling the Browns a terrible team now? They've played three very tight ones vs. teams now a combined 8-2, and just beat the previously 2-1 Bengals.

2) With our win and the Titans loss, maybe we can call the Steelers D a little more mortal now?

3) More importantly, with our winning a very tough game against the team everyone has been calling the best team in the NFL in their house - not to mention our beating the Jets in their house - can we get some of our respect back as being one of the best teams in the NFL now?

To be 3-1 with three road games after this stretch is I think extremely good. Three divisional opponents, three opponents thought to be great teams, now we have 7 home games vs. 5 on the road remaining including our two toughest in-division games at home. It's still a tough schedule for us, but to be 3-1 right now and on top of the division is a great sign.

Especially with a huge game-winning drive led by Flacco...

Actually, they have been the least penalized team in all 4 games they have played so far this season, aside from the Browns game where it was equal in yardage and total penalties.

I was speaking more of the Ravens-Steelers rivalry the past few years. We have been the team that shot itself in the foot. They have been the team making plays in the clutch. Neither of those two were the case today.

Last week's Power Rankings by ESPN:

1. Steelers - douches, will be behind us
2. Saints - will remain in front of us
3. Colts - will remain in front of us with a W
4. Packers - close game against Lions, would still put them ahead of us (barely)
5. Falcons - barely beat 49ers, should be behind us
6. Bears - should lose tonight, will be ahead of us if they remain undefeated
7. Jets - we beat them, should be behind us
8. Ravens

I think we definitely move up into the Top 5 again, probably at 3 or 4.

Steelers will still be in front of the Ravens on power rankings (as meaningless as they are). They'll be citing Batch, missed FGs and such.

Packers, Saints, and Falcons each had very unimpressive close wins over terrible opponents (at home!). Colts are currently tied with Jax, we'll see how that goes.

sweetness...60,000 Pigsburghians whimpering for their mommies...the announcers stuttering as they changed scripts...
the Ravens winning a close road game against a major team...
don't care if it was against the 4th string qb, this was a major win.

Pitt's 3-1 without Ben is impressive, I'll give that...

But our first 4 games, 3 of them on the road, 3 against division opponents...

To emerge 3-1, 2-1 in AFC North? That is glory. This team needs to keep getting better, but getting our demons off our backs should certainly help.

If we win the division it's moot but .....

You do know that common opponents plays into the wild card race AFTER division record, right?

Yes, but if you're confident and plan to win the division - that tiebreaker is gonna be important for seeding. Hell, if both teams continue to play well its the difference between a bye or not, or home field throughout.

You cannot control the seeding and if you rack up as many division wins as you can, you end up controlling your own destiny anyway.

The Bengals lost to the browns today...

Ravens vs AFCN - 2-1
Bengals vs AFCN - 1-1

Just means we need to keep the pace with them from here on out. If we lose BOTH division games to the Bengals, start planning on a wild card race. But for now, we're doing okay with them, since we beat the Browns and Pit at least once.

So they'd be 4-0 and endlessly running their mouths? No thanks...besides, division record is irrelevant as long as we have more Ws than they do, which is the case right now

After losing to the Browns today I highly doubt that the Bengals are going to be able to take on the Steelers when Ben comes back. If the Browns D could handle them, imagine what the Steelers are going to do?

But head to head comes in first and foremost. If we win the division, our head to head vs. the Jets gives us home field if we finish with the same record, and there's a reasonable chance we do.

They have bigger things to worry about than just beating us twice. They look like a pretty mediocre team right now. We probably should have beaten them, and I would lay decent money if we hadn't gone on 6 days rest we probably would have won that game. Regardless, they may have a lot of trouble getting into the playoffs. They look to me clearly like they're at best the third best team in the division. It's very possible (though not likely) the Browns are better than they are.

I thought of another thing to calm the Chicken Littles...

In our first 4 games, we've already complete our ROAD DIVISION games against the Bengals and Steelers. We have a total of 5 road games left over the next 12 games, one of which is Cleveland.

Again, in those 2 division road games, we are 1-1. Cleveland is still a tough team, but I have to think we can still win in Cleveland. That puts us at 3-1 in AFCN, with our home games against Bengals and Steelers. We win just ONE of those, we're probably in good shape for AFCN division race.

Just another reason today's win was HUGE.

Get this, after the game fat ass, no nothing, Damon Yafee was blasting Joe Flacco on his play. This from a losing high school footbal coach who has no right giving insight into anything. I have respect for his counterpart Mark Viviano, as he's a true pro, but Yafee is nothing more than a fat ass jerk. Why is this piece of shit even in the media?

what was he saying? I have been as critical of Flacco as anyone else but overall, he was very good today. The interception he threw was horrible and the 2nd to last drive on third and fourth downs, he didn't show much but he spread the ball around really well and threw the ball to the middle quite a few times. The drive at the end was simply brilliant...fast, decisive and intelligent. The Steelers seemed to make some adjustments at halftime and Joe was looking a little confused for the third and most of the fourth qtrs. but to win that game like he did should do wonders for his confidence. Confidence is one thing I think he struggles with...I don't buy all the Joe Cool stuff but a winning drive like that in Pittsburgh could give Joe that edge he needs. We'll see...one game does not make a champion.

RavenScallywag

This suprises me, generally I agree with Bulldog on a lot of things. I can't really see anyone but Preston being critical of Flacco today. He did what Cam wanted him to do, and he did it well. You can go after him for the 4 and out goal line stand, but the play calls there were half the reason for the failure. And you can get him for his INT, but that's about it.

The way I see it, this puts us is great position for the division.

1) Pittsburgh and Cincy now have to come to our house. And we've EMBARRASED the Steelers at M&T at times.

2) We just came through what I consider a BRUTAL first 4 games; 2 in a row on the road to OPEN the season, and already 3 division games. And we come out of that 3-1, 2-1 in the division. Coming up is Denver, @NE, Buffalo, Bye, Miami, @Atlanta, @Carolina, TB. That's before our next division game. We can easily be 5-2 coming out of that stretch, especially with the bye between two home games. So we have a reasonable chance of being 8-3 before seeing Pittsburgh at home again.

(note: Yes, I realize there is a lot that is going to happen that could change that. I'm just basing it on what I see from these other teams right now.)

2) Pittsburgh has 3 road games in a row coming up after their bye and Cleveland coming in (which isn't the cakewalk it used to be......ask the Bengals). And their travel schedule is worse. They have to go down to Miami, then out to NO, then to Cincy. Oh yeah, then after all that the Patriots come to Pittsburgh. So I'm not totally convinced they can carry that same record even with Rothlisberger coming back.

3) Don't forget we are a team still getting healthy. Paul Kruger is healthy and now playing (and played well today). Lardarius Webb appears to be almost completely healthy from that knee injury (which is amazing). Cody is starting to play. Oh yeah and that guy.....what's his name? Oh yeah, Ed Reed. He hasn't been on the field yet, and they are still targetting after the bye for that.

4) The offense is starting to gel. Receivers that can make catches and get open in ways we've NEVER seen from Mark Clayton, Demetrius Williams, Clarance Moore, etc, etc, etc. And while he's dropping more passes than I'd like, Todd Heap looks like his career has been renewed! What we saw the last couple of weeks was a continued development of that offense we've hyped ourselves up about during the offseason.

Maybe it's me being a little more euphoric this week rather than last week, but I think this is our division to lose. If we don't get win the AFC North, it will be because we let it go.

Ravenjoe here, and the standings are a three-way tie, with, I guess, the Bungles owning the tie-breaker?! And noone could be happier than me! However, it looked kind of dicey at the end. I really did not think the team would pull this one out; it took an above average team effort to pull out this victory! Btw, the Hokies deserve mega kudos as well for pulling one out of their derrier this past weekend against NC State - congrats!!

Damon Yaffe is the co host on 105.7 (the fan) from 9:00-12:00 with Mark Viviano.
He goes by the nickname "Bulldog"
I'll assume he has that nickname because generally speaking, he looks like a big bulldog and trys to come off as some tough guy on the radio if he disagrees with a caller or doesn't like a callers take or opinion.
Dude gets all loud and assinine like he's gods gift top football knowledge.
He's the football coach at Boys Latin school as well.

Personally, I think he's a serious closet Steeler fan.

Everytime we plkay them he can't stop talking about how great of a franchise they are including their fanbase.
He also loves to bring up Biscottis comment of how he wants this franchise to be the Steelers almost as if he's trying to imply that Biscotti is a closet Steeler fan himself.

Yesterday on that stupid post game show he (Yaffe) does with Marty Bass he (yaffe) was on there talking about how great thye Steelers fans are and how real football fans like them wouldn't make excuses for losing like Ravens fans and others tend to do... I.E., blaming the refs, not having Ben, etc.

He thinks all they would say is that the Ravens came in there, did what they had to do, and kicked their asses.

Dude is a fucking closet Steeler fan or is completely clueless!!

Have any of you looked at any Steeler boards?

If yopu haven't, go look and tell me if they are any different then other fan bases and doing nothing but giving the Ravens credit.

I'd start with the "Steeler Nation" forum and begin with the thread titled "I was born a poor Black Child"
