The reports say that Jaws is being considered for the spot, along with Emmett Smith and Bill Parcells. Here's another link:

Now they need to get rid of those other 2 idiots & maybe I'll watch a Monday night game the Ravens aren't playing.

Emmit was terrible on the NFL Network. Jaws could be fun but I didnt mind Joe. MNF lost its luster, it went down the crapper the moment they lost out to NBC as the feature game of the week.

I didn't like Thiesmann too much but Kornheiser is the guy they need to can. I think Jaws would do real well.
Or dump them all and go back to Maguire and Patrick. jmho

Now we just need to dump one more guy and bring in Dick Vermeil. Wow was that a great game he called with Jaws.

Hopefully someone will wise up.

I don't mind Theisman as much as Cornheiser deliberately getting under his skin (he says what we're all thinking, but that's ok)

Turns out that Jaws is the guy to replace Joe. Here's the link:

Glad to see Theisman go! (he really rubbed me the wrong way)
Jaws is a great move! (more smarts than Theisman could ever have)
Maybe, just maybe, ESPN will realise that the booth is supposed to work like a team?;)

Theisman was pretty bad -- he would not only contradict himself week to week, he'd contradict himself from quarter to quarter. He was wildly inconsistent in his opinions and observations.

Jaws is very good, definitely an upgrade. But I don't know how he'll mesh with Kornheiser, since Jaws knows about 300 times more about the NFL than Kornhole.

Kornholer is the one that has to go!! I can't stand watching with him in the booth, and don't, no matter who's playing, except the Ravens, of course. I didn't mind Theesman, but Jaws is definitely an upgrade!

I always felt sorry for Mike Tirico having to deal w/ Kornheiser and Theismann. I def won't miss Theismann.

Theisman was not bad, it was Kornheiser, the guy doesn't belong in a booth. And the idiotic segments they did with people e-mailing in to him and shit ...

Jaworski will be great, he is probably the best analyst in the game.

Kornheiser I think will be gone, I thought they/he said before the season that he'd only be doing it for one season due to the travelling?

I like joy T. He offers his opinions, insight and occasionally goes on a rant, ie T.O. I like people who think outside of the box and speak their mind. He is kind of a Jim Palmer type, IMHO

and Jim Palmer is god awful.

I'll never forget last season the one event that totally exemplified Jim Palmer...they had Michelle Wie in the booth because of the women's open at Bulle Rock and the FIRST thing he says, of course, is "you know, michelle, I play golf too."

This is the guy that needs to go.

And if you would like you can also see him as an intricate pumpkin carving:

Need to get Nessler on MNF. He is excellent.

TK got better as the season went on. He was obviously uncomfortable at the beginning of the season.

The worst by far is Bryant Gumble. Holy crap, he is completely unlistenable. I pray we dont play on Thursday night this year.

I don't have a link for this because I just heard about it on the radio, but apparently in USA Today there's an article about Theismann leaving in which he said ESPN told him, as an explanation of why they wanted to make a change -- "On the air, I was talking about football."

If that's true . . . :grbac: He was talking about football? Oh no!

This is a perfect illustration of what's wrong with ESPN's treatment of MNF.

I'm with ya on this one...

Although I do realize I was one of the very few who actually really, really liked Dennis Miller. But I know after a few beers (or if you are a Steelers fan) you won't understand his allusions and historical and literary references...

Tony Kornheiser and Bryant Gumble battled it out for worst commentator last year. I was hoping both would be canned. Absolutely horrible.

The worst by far is Bryant Gumble. Holy crap, he is completely unlistenable. I pray we dont play on Thursday night this year. Tk did get better as the season went along, and as I like him immensely, I can put up w/ his imperfections, but Theisman was just a fawning sycophant, who worried more about sucking up to.... ANYONE, and watched a different game than was being played on the field, as evidenced by his completely innaccurate analogies. And, as well presented as Mike Tirico is, he is way to vanilla(no pun intended)

There's no way you can equate the horribleness that is Bryant "Alvin Chipmunk" Gumble w/ TK! They are on completely different levels!:insane:

I agree that Kornheiser got better as the season went on, but he still wasn't especially good, even at the end of the season. His performance went from mediocre to so-so. He seemed to spend all his energy on his opening, pre-kickoff monologues, which were occasionally over-the-top elegant, as if he was trying to be some literary giant or philosopher instead of a football commentator.

I thought Theismann was consistently bad; Tirico, I think, is a very adequate play-by-play guy. They'll be better with Jaws. But I hope this move doesn't take Jaws away from that Sunday morning ESPN analysis show, because he is really good at that (the name of the show escapes me at the moment, but it's the one where they break down tape, and do so very effectively).

Okay, this is just wrong. You can't bring Gumble into this discussion. His suckiness at play-by-play was space vacuum like powerful and will never be duplicated in any field. You are bringing a once in an eon horribleness into this discussion.

Kornhiser blows hard and long, but Gumble was in another dimension. The laws of physics and how hard somebody can simultaneously suck and blow don't apply to him.

I agree with Sports Steve, Kornisher is only funny when paired with Wilbon on PTI. Otherwise he sound rather pedestrian on MNF.
