View Full Version : ESPN's Primetime -- Is it just me?

Is it just me or are others mourning the demise of Primetime at 7:30 pm on Sundays after 19 years?

Football season isn't quite the same without hearing Berman and Jackson go over the highlights.

Hearing the shortened version of "the Blitz" on SportsCenter isn't quite the same?

Berman can get on my nerves, but I definitely miss NFL Primetime. They really didn't shortchange viewers on highlights. The NBC pregame thing is a poor substitute.

Right after Week one there were a bunch of articles on how bad the NBC show was and how Primetime was missed.I have to say I agree as well, just entirely too much talking by Collinsworth and company and it just isnt the same.

Guys, if you are suffering from Primetime withdrawal, may I suggest NFL Gameday on NFL Network? While the announcing by Eisen isn't on Berman's level, at least you get the in-depth highlight package that every fan must have to get the scoop on the days games.

I agree - Primetime is missed. The NFL Network's show is probably the best one on Sundays right now. Eisen is not too bad, and with Deion and Mariucci, it works well. The NBC show just isn't very enjoyable to me. The set, the music, everything - it's too staid and serious. It's like I'm watching NBC's election night coverage or something. Primetime was lighthearted without being goofy. It's just football, after all, not "FOOTBALL NIGHT IN AMERICA!!!"

I really miss the ESPNs Primetime show on Sunday nights.

The NBC show is horrible, and I don't get NFL Network.

I agree, NFL Network is the place to go now. NBC spends too much of their show doing fluff pieces like the FOX and CBS shows do at 12:00 noon. I don't need the fluff after most of the games have been played, show me highlights and break some damn film down with Jaws.

It's sorely missed. The highlights shows on NBC is way below par. Still waiting for my cable company to offer the NFL Network.

So am I. It should be part of what passes for basic cable these days, not a premium package. I'd sure watch it if I had it -- I agree with the comments about the NBC show. I realize they are apparently trying to do something different instead of appearing to imitate Primetime, but different isn't always better. There is no enthusiasm in that show at all; it's just too serious.

Maybe it'll get better as they move along, but so far I'm not impressed.

Still waiting for NFL network, also, but watching collinsworth and the loathsome BooB Costas is enough to make you wanna smackdown the closest egomaniac!!!:bag: :bag: (after you put a costas mask on him, or her)

I agree with all you guys. We typically get back from the games about 7:30 pm and it was great to see Primetime. Recorded the ESPN 11:00 thing (blitz?) and it couldn't suck enough. I'll be checking out the NFL Network.

As far as the Sunday night pregame, absolutely dreadful. Costas can't get any more pious (and I used to like him). Makes me turn the sound off.

I actually like Bob Costas, it's just the format of this NBC show that I don't like. There's no energy. With Berman and Jackson, you really felt like you were listening to a couple of fans like we are. The NBC show, so far, has had a too-serious tone.

I'm still holding out hope that it will get better. What I really wish ESPN would do is do a one hour Prime Time and show it on Monday. I understand they can't show any highlights until 11:00 Sunday, but they could film a highlight show and air it on Monday. In fact, I thought I read before the season started, that that's what they were going to do. And they did, in fact, have a show called PrimeTime on Monday afternoon, but it was basically a one hour Monday Night show with Stuart Scott trying desperately to act hip and had nothing in common with the Berman/Jackson highlight show.

I so totally miss Primetime, as some one else said it was great to catch up on a the games just getting home from tailgate. The NFLN is OK, better then NBC. I aslo miss MMQB on ESPN News on Monday mornings.
