View Full Version : Josh Wilson rips Ravens fans

Damn, and to think I wanted to sign him more than the other Cbs.
Ok, ok - so he's from DC but we were good to him. We sold the stadium out and supported him even defending him when he cost us a TD in the PO game in Pissburgh with that penalty and then they scored.
So now he says there's no comparing Ravens fans to Skins fans. When Skins lose, their fans are like dying. Excuse me, we don't?
The fans between us and Piss are the best rivalry in the country. Our fans take over stadiums across the country including NE where players said it was like playing at home.
I can't even watch Squeelers games because I might have a heart attack.
Anyway, you get the picture.
ENJOY LOSING PUNK BECAUSE THAT'S ALL THEY DO IN DC WHILE RAVENS GO TO THEIR 4TH STRAIGHT POs.

Josh must have been caught off guard when asked he question. He can't be that stupid!
Hey Josh:
One city has a legitimate waiting list for PSL's, capped at about 3,000, which turns over a dozen or less seats per season.
The other team used to claim a fantasy 100,000 fan waiting list, which not only completely dissapated a few months ago, but also wound up into a minus 10,000 (i.e. the number of seats removed from FedEx Field this summer (http://www.mediadailyla.com/2011/07/washington-redskins-remove-10000-unsold.html)).
People joke about the tarps covering unsold seats at Jacksonville, but that truck stop of a town has about 15% of the population of the Nation's Crime Capital and 5% of its wealth; neither can sell out without removing thousands of seats.
Yeah, right, Josh! Fucking idiot! :insane:

WTF did he say that's not true? The Ravens have 16 years of history to the Redskins near 80. It makes a little bit of sense that the Ravens don't have quite the historic fervor that the Skins do, right? Plus, how exactly is "But the Ravens have a strong fanbase up there. They’re growing and getting kind of that establishment that the Redskins already have," qualify as ripping the Ravens fan base?
Try decaf dude.

Yeah, if you read the article, it's kind of a backhanded compliment. Basically says there's no comparison to the "TRADITIONS" of Redskin fans, because they've been around so long, and when they lose "it's like someone died". But also says Baltimore's fanbase is up and coming and is approaching that level.
This, to me, goes along with the comments Mason made earlier. When we obtained Lee Evans and someone asked him what he thought about it, he made a comment that we didn't concern him, he was on the best team in football. Yeah, I don't expect you to trash your current team, but do you really need to go out of your way to rip your old team? You could say something pretty neutral like "I love Redskin fans, they've been so awesome, but Ravens fans are good too" or, in Mason's case, "I think they'll be a pretty good team, but we'll give them a run for their money".
It might've had something to do with Baltimore booing McClain last week. A couple guys have mentioned that in tweets, I bet they are turning on Raven fans for that.

Are you guys from DC, except Ted.
Baltimore has the tradition long before the Ravens came. We set attendance records back in the 50s and
60s that lasted for years and was only broken after the team left, so Baltimore has plenty of tradition.
Today Ravens fans are descendants from Baltimore Colts fans - most come from their fathers and grand
fathers. The Ravens Fan clubs descend from the Colt Corralls and the Roosts and Nests have over
4,000 between them giving away hundreds of thousands of dollars to charities all over Maryland.
Talk about tradition, how the Redskins original owner Marshall who was a racist and was the
last to hire minority players and that was after the Kennedy Administration threatened him. Marshall finally
drafted Ernie Davis and traded him to Cleve for Bobby Mitchell but only after the gov't interferred. That's their history plus all the losing since boy wonder took over. Native Americans are constantly trying to change
the name of Redskins because it is offensive to them.
Josh said there was no comparing Ravens fans to Skins fans and their fans are like dead after a loss but there is for the reasons Ted and I cited above. Hell, all their fans should be dead if that's true after all the losing they do.
I've heard their own fans say the Skins suck really bad and they won't argue when you laugh at them.

Now here's a comment from DC I can live with.
____________________________________________
I wonder if Josh will be saying the same thing when he finds out that Fed Ex field is regularly invaded and taken over by opposing fans - something that never happens at M&T.
Honestly, I feel like the Ravens are more important to the general populace of metro Baltimore than the Skins are to the general populace of metro DC. And this is coming from a DC resident...

He was always a DC guy - he's from Montomery County. What do you expect him to say. I doubt he even knew the Colts played here pre-1983 and probably has no clue about John Unitas. So who cares. If he was from Essex than I'd be pissed.

The booing of McClain was likely due to the fact he was a good player who had a good thing going and then messed it all up with his selfish/deluded/constant cries for more touches. When Heap returns there will be NOTHING of the sort. Booing Heap is simply not a part of Raven fan DNA.
McClain got it b/c he was a malcontent. Fans across the league boo malcontents who are still ON their team, let alone ones who left.

Josh Wilson can say what he wants. Who cares what he has to say...there are no fans down in DC come January because there are no football games going on. However Baltimore is making a push for a 4th consecutive playoff appearance. It was fun while we had you maybe you learned your lesson against Roddy White and won't bitch out the next time he burns your ass.

My issue with the blog link you posted is that it sounds like some carefully chosen sound bytes to create some controversy (read: how do I get people to click on my blog?)
FWIW and IMHO, Wilson doesn't really whiz on Ravens fans, more that he displays ignorance of football tradition. And again FWIW, it almost sounds more like he's saying Ravens fans (as opposed to Baltimore football fans) when he's quoted as saying "they [meaning WHO?] have nowhere near the tradition of Redskins fans". As others note, the Ravens have been here a little more than a Baker's dozen seasons, and Warshington has "enjoyed" ;) their football team for much longer. Wilson sounds like he may not be a student of football history and lore. If you consider the storied tradition of Baltimore's participation in football over the last 70ish years or so, we have every bit as much strength of fanbase as Snyder's team.
Plus, Wilson's barely into his late 20's, and he's citing his elderly relatives as "My uncle is 50-so years old and all they know are Redskins..."
I've got a comfortable pair of shoes older than Wilson, and his uncle was probably barely just a gleam in his Pop's eye when the BALTIMORE Colts were winning a Super Bowl!

The part about comparing Ravens fans to Skins fans Tony. We supported Wilson, many of us wanted him to
re-sign with us and he stabs us in the back, even when we defended him for screwing up the PO game.
If I take the Ravens too seriously as many people say, some of you guys don't take them serious at all.
He's speaking to the Post which covers his new team in his home town.
All he had to do was leave Ravens fans out of it and say what a great
tradition Skins fans have.
So for those who think he's Ok fine. That's your opinion but please re-read

Not seeing it. What we can't really tell is if Wilson was asked to compare the fan bases. If you read this (Blog) it seems likely on the heels of posting Harbaugh campaigning to take over DC (which btw I believe was tongue-in-cheek) Wilson was set up for such a response.
But really, this is a perfect example of how defensive fans can be. But I get it...it's all good!

I have and nothing he said is wrong. He gives props to Ravens fans and is correct in saying Redskins fans have more tradition than Raven fans (not Baltimore fans) He was asked a question and answered it, why do you care what some guy who played for 1 season in baltimore thinks? He is a DC boy who grew up a Skins fan.

Trap, next time you want to make a point that's untrue, have something to back it up.
Here is what Wilson said:
“One thing about it, they have nowhere near the tradition of Redskins fans,” Wilson told the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/football-insider/post/josh-wilson-redskins-fan-base-tops-ravens/2011/08/22/gIQA78ahWJ_blog.html?wprss=football-insider)with a grin. “...My uncle is 50-so years old and all they know are Redskins and you’d almost think somebody’s died when the Redskins have lost. And now I’m getting all these phone calls asking, ‘What do you think about this?’ and they think I’m going to give them all the insight, and I’m like, ‘Get out of here!’ But the Ravens have a strong fanbase up there. They’re growing and getting kind of that establishment that the Redskins already have.”
This is not "ripping" Ravens fans, and I have half-a-mind to edit this extremely misleading thread title.

Holy shit Trap, you need to stop taking everything someone says so personal as if they're completely disparaging the Ravens. Wilson paid the fans up here a compliment, and gave high kudos to the fan base of the team he's playing for, and you're acting like he said Ravens fans should go f*** themselves or something.
1) This shouldn't be surprising that a player coming into a new city will talk higher about their city than the one they were just in. Did you really expect him to say "No man, Ravens fans are the best...these DC fans are just mediocre when it comes to rooting?" Do you think he's angling to get booed eight games a year from his new home town? Particularly when he grew up a Redskins fan?
2) You understand that what you're doing in how you talk about Skins fans vs. Ravens fans in this thread is WORSE than what Wilson said about us? By, like, a LOT. So why is it exactly that you think it's okay for you to do that, but not okay for Wilson to pay his home town fans some compliments?
3) You've drummed this up as though Wilson has done some horrible injustice to Ravens fans everywhere when he pays us a compliment, because it's not THE ULTIMATE COMPLIMENT!!!
Seriously man, you need to chill out some. You get your blood boiling over some really ridiculous stuff that warrants absolutely no attention what-so-ever. This is one of those things.

man, i was pretty shocked to see this board get as offended as the sun board did. skins were around longer, thus they have more tradition. simple math really. he didnt say baltimore football and dc football, he said skins and ravens. so just because the colts played here once upon a time, doesnt mean that gives the ravens tradition. the ravens are building a great tradition, but compared to the longevity of the skins, come on man.

Meh. He was careful to quantify his comments. I expect every player in the NFL to assure their team's fans they are the best in football. My only issue with it is that it is dismissive of Baltimore's overall NFL history and tradition, and it probably slipped his mind that the Baltimore Colt's football tradition lived on after a 13 year absence. A typical dumb Skin's fan comment, but it isn't the end of my world. I actually had a disagreement with Wilson once on Twitter, when he was making fun of someone for believing evolution. I mentioned it made him sound dumb. Two weeks later he must have come across it while twittering his name and came at me with a bunch of "why don't you @ me with that?" Er, because I don't really want to discuss anything with someone who doesn't believe in evolution. Duh. He's a really good CB, but not the sharpest pencil in the box. If this happened in the regular season, I might use it to get pumped up about the game; but it's preseason, so all I'm hoping for is good practice and development for our players and that nobody gets hurt.

Whether you feel it or not there is a link and a NFL tradition in Baltimore that goes back over 60 years. Whether everyone remembers or are old enough to remember is irrelevant. But like I said, I'm not too terribly plussed by Wilson's comments.

That's what I say. I wasn't surprised by his lack of knowledge of the fan tradition here in Baltimore. I read an article a year or two or so ago saying that many younger NFL players have no real grasp on the history of the league and don't know, for example, there was a team called Baltimore Colts. So it isn't really surprising or shocking that he doesn't know about our history, even if he played here. He just really didn't know what he was talking about.
The way I see it, the Ravens have a 16 year history in Baltimore, but Ravens fans have a tradition that spans 60+ years and four leagues.
Other teams' fans say far worse about us and our history on a daily basis to get mad over this. It was a compliment, even if it was uninformed.

just as there was a difference in 33rd st fans and camden yard fans, there is an element at ravens games that can afford to show up to every game, and care more about the tailgate and whats on tap, then a lot of guys who bleed purple and just cant afford to go....i just thought the houston was pretty rough, and he was kind of assuming what he may have been a lack of intelligence on my part...and it wasnt cool, regardless of how i typed..it just kind of reminded me of the slight undercurrent that is at the stadium of elitism

Nope.
No assumption at all.
Not one bit.
100% no assumption.

What does drinking and/or financial means have to do with this?
I must have missed a memo...

There, fixed it. And seriously, take your advice and relax. He was merely asking you to type post so folks could read it and it contributes to the thread instead of distracting from it... oh wait, too late.

I really trying to be patient here .....
scottie, go read the thread. Then take a minute and let it digest.
For one, you'd see everyone has already said what you had to say.
Second, you'd see that we're trying to help you acclimate to the boards and what people's expectations are when it comes to contributions.
Keep it up and the Mods will simply delete your posts or, even worse, people just won't read you anymore.

And short, if you keep this up.
Use punctuation and spelling. Otherwise you are being disrespectful to your readers.
If you are repeatedly disrespectful to your readers then your readers will think you are behaving like an asshole, and it will be your fault, not theirs.

Alright folks ...
It's partially my fault so the Mrs. HR will discipline me accordingly, but lets get back on track.

Good point.
So unless anyone really objects, this one is going to the trash heap.
It went from bad to worse pretty fast ....

scot-
No offense taken, I just think your initial post was a bit, oh, challenging;) to many of us with aged eyes and computer skills from the 60's/70's! :D
On another issue, I've noted during my tailgating adventures that there are a lot of folks who don't have tickets but enjoy the pre- and post-game tailgate activities. Some try to score tickets on game day there, others just congregate with those of us fortunate enough to have PSLs or game tickets, then end up watching the game from the lots on some of those elaborate big-screens-attached-to-the-back-of-a-van-with-satellite-reception set-ups. I don't detect too much elitism, just Ravens and football fans having a good time, tickets or no.
Plus, you seem to have an endless supply of ellipses...wouldn't a simple period do now and then? :)
