Oz going to Alabama when his son finishes high school in three years? Per our Crazy Newshound (http://www.al.com/sports/press-register/index.ssf?/base/sports/1179047762106610.xml&coll=3):

Newsome said. "I just want to come back and work at Alabama. I don't have to be the AD. On a Saturday afternoon during the season, there's only one thing I want to do -- watch Alabama football or to know what's happening if I'm on the road or something and can't watch it.

"People keep talking about me being the AD. If there's the opportunity to come back maybe to be the janitor at the University of Alabama, hey, I'll take that."

Newsome, however, isn't looking to move his family anytime soon.

"My son (Michael) is in the ninth grade and I would like for him to graduate from high school," he said. "Once that happens, you know, hey ..."

Even though we can pick apart many of the individual deals made by the Ravens FO, you can't argue that it has produced as many or more quality players since 1996 as any other NFL franchise. The one constant has been Oz -- we've been spoiled.

After providing GM apprenticeships to Phil Savage and James Harris, is the Ravens FO cupboard now bare? Is there a successor among Pat Moriarty, O.J. Brigance, Eric DeCosta, or George Kokinis?

I think DeCosta is a Natural! He really impressed me in the interview with Tony and all of his drafts seem to be very good ones! He's really smart, works hard, and knows the Raven way. If it was anyone but him, I would be shocked!

The Oz will return to Alabama sooner or later. If Eric D. can just hold on.....

Eric DeCosta seems like a really good personnel evaluator, but there's quite a bit more to being an effective GM than scouting players.

The decisions of keeping a player and paying him or letting him walk, the structuring of the team's payscale, the management of the scouting departments & personnel working under him, the cohesive ability to work with the coaching staffs and address their personnel wants...

these are just a few of the requirements of being a GM.

Ozzie is a tremendous asset to this organization and a large part of its success. Even though there will be a life after Ozzie, I'm not looking forward to it.
