Any suggestions on what to see or do while in San Diego while counting the minutes down to SNF

This should keep you busy:
Drive up I-5 about 50 miles -- you will likely see the jets from the NAS Miramar Top Gun School buzzing the highway -- at night, there's a reasonable chance of seeing pumas prancing across the highway (I saw a pair)
Old Town shops and Mexican food
La Jolla seafood restaurants on palisades overlooking the Pacific
Coronado beaches - make sure to see the "haunted" Hotel del Coronado:
