Boller, a #1 pick in 03 who failed as a starter, canbe a free agent after this season. Smith won the Heisman for Ohio st, but fell to the 5th round. Given Billick's inability to develop young QB's, Mcnair's ultimate successor may come from free agency. Or a gem in next's year draft to work with.

Might be Smith, but probably not. We can keep our fingers crossed that he is the next Drew Brees, who knows.

Won't be Boller, whose contract will expire at the end of this year, with good timing for him, and good timing for the team.

I'm not sure what "Billick's inability to develop young QB's" is, unless you are referring to Boller alone, which would be a pretty small sample size. Why not just say his inability to develop Boller? Or are you including all the mid- to late- round draft picks (Redman, Harris, etc.), whose 'talent' is not so much?

He even got him Fassel as a personal tutor, the same guy who developed Elway.

Above are Elway's stats for his first four years (that comes up to a 71.9 rating). Here are Boller's.

BAM! Elway had a WHOLE 0.9 higher rating.

Your assessments of Namath, Elway and Boller say one thing, the stats something else. But when all are combined only one thing is noted.

YOU DON'T KNOW ANYMORE ABOUT QBS THAN MY DOG!

YOU DON'T KNOW ANYMORE ABOUT QBS THAN MY DOG!

Give the guy credit, Greg, he knows about future Hall of Famer Jack Cust.

I don't like bringing this up but it bears mentioning from time to time. We *needed* a 1st round qb the year we drafted Boller. We tried to get Leftwich and that trade did not go through.

Our starting qb entering that weekend's draft was Chris Redman. I have heard it reported (Aaron Wilson on the radio? not sure) that *at that point* the coaching staff was aware of Redman's shortcomings, which we would see in the following season, and had told the FO they needed another option at starting qb.

Should they have traded up to take Grossman, or Cheeseburger, who were taken later in the first round? Maybe, in retrospect, though I'm not so sure either of them brought into our talent-starved offense would have done better then Boller.

Pissing and moaning about why we have Boller on our team without acknowledging we *needed* a qb when we drafted him is only telling half the story.

I'll be glad when he's gone, good for him & good for us, though I'll be a little sad for the whiners who can't shut up about our backup quarterback.

Greg, is your dog going to be at your party? Cause if he is, I'm there!!!!

Why some of you haven't put Tex on ignore like the rest of us...I don't know?

Of course Bogey will be there, and he will be available for more in-depth analysis. Tex would do well to listen to his musings.

I just wanted to take a look at some of these posts...

Did you watch Elway when he first came in the league genius? While I cannot say I watched his every game I do know that even when he was young like Boller, Elway never looked as nervous and panicky on the field, stats or no stats. He also was able to scramble and make plays much better than Blunderboy. Also, how many times did Elway trip over air and lose the confidence of his teamates, and end up getting replaced by an aging vet? I will give you the answer buckeroo. NONE, NADA, ZILCH, ZERO!

You obviously didn't watch much of Elway at all when he was first entering the league.

You are mentally ill, Tex. If I ever see an article in the paper about numerous murder victims, whose only connection is membership of the Sun message board, I'm pointing the cops in your direction, since Sunspot apparently RUINED YOUR LIFE.

The above thread is exactly what I was referring to in the other thread. Boller is mentioned in one line of the original post as a non-successor. The next post agrees Boller will not be playing in purple beyond this season. You then go on to give your TexTake v1 (of 3) to bash Boller, again, without addressing the topic at hand, turning another thread into #5,186 with the same crap in it, to suit your troll-like appetite for a topic that is essentially dead.

Again, and I hope this isn't too difficult, in your opinion - WHO IS LIKELY TO SUCCEED MCNAIR??

I think it'll be Boller.

Tex, right or wrong you make a joke out of yourself by repeating the same thing over and over. When challenged on another thread, to gain credibility you cited examples when you felt like you'd made valid points elsewhere. ON ANOTHER FORUM dealing with ANOTHER SPORT.

Don't you see that's how you make yourself a joke? It's not your point. Really, you could be arguing that the sky is blue and you'd be mocked just as much. It's the way you seem unable to string two brain cells in your head together to form an opinion about anything else.

I think it'll be Boller.

He'll be gone. Why resign him as a backup with Troy Smith on the roster? Smith has too high an upside to linger forever as the #3. And #2 qb's cost too much money to have two of them on the squad.

My bet is (a) Troy Smith or if he hasn't in the end got the tools, (b) a player not on the roster and likely not in the NFL yet.

Oh darn. We will miss Tex's take on the QBs.

Well, let me fill in for Tex and post what he would have.

Boller sucked, McNair was extra good, Troy Smith's semen wasn't nearly as salty as I thought it would be and Boller sucked.

I was hoping to be able to go and observe the quarterbacks at training camp but now I have to work August 1, the day I had planned on going. I may still get to go another day but it is very much up in the air now. What a bummer!:(

Damn!!!!! I had been really waiting to hear this "expert" appraisal of our QB candidates.:rolling:

LOL, I have to hope this kind of post from you is a joke after your post of man-love for Namath and his horrid statistical record. Not to mention your Elway crush and his Boller like first 4 years.

There is still a chance I may get to go another day (other than August 1). I really want to give you guys a clue as to what we have at QB behind McNair. I seriously doubt some of you would have any remote idea on your own, if you continue to think Boller is worth having around. :grbac:

Tex are you planning to watch any Raven's games for the first time this year? Or just tune in on that new fangled radio-technology thing?

As for McNair's successor, my bet would be that it's no one who's currently on the roster. They'll probably draft some one in the 3 - 4 round and let him compete with a veteran acquisition when it's time.
