Wow, terrible news. He is quite a legend. Amazing to see how many who worked under him have gone on to become NFL head coaches. I know Billick was pretty close to him from his days working in the 49ers PR office. My thoughts are with his family.

Yes indeed. Wikipedia has a 'Coaching Tree' that shows the coaches that worked under him that made it in their own right. It is quite astonishing actually.

They are missing Marvin Lewis and Mike Nolan under Billick.

I remember watching those "America's Team" videos for the past couple months and I really enjoyed watching those 49er films. Besides the fact that I always admired that team and coach, it was a great insight to one of the best football minds in history IMHO.

He was a great coach, an innovator . From what I've seen , heard , and know of Coach Walsh ,he was most of all a good man. May that be said of us all. My prayers and best wishes are with his family and friends. Rest in peace... Well done.

That's one hell of a coach, if not the best.
Sad to hear, Hopefully a moment of silence will be issued league wide to remember such a coaching innovator.
I'm glad I was able to watch his teams during the 80's
Perhaps the greatest coach of modern football. A true innovator.
